31. His Worth

“I know you are there. So, come out.”

Since Gabriel found him out, Xavier stepped out and walked towards him. He stood next to Haiden’s foster father and looked at the plants and flowers. The fragrance created an array of heady, floral scents that changed often as the wind did.

The mood does not suit the atmosphere between Gabriel and Xavier.

Gabriel was an abuser. Haiden was a victim. Even if Xavier succeeded in talking to him before and even calling him ‘father’, that does not mean that he created a good relationship with Gabriel.

Notwithstanding, Xavier gathered his courage and spoke.

“How did you know that I am here?”

Keeping his eyes forward, Gabriel answered, “You always do that.”

‘Do what?’

“Every year when I celebrate my wedding anniversary with my second wife, you always come to this place.”

‘Haiden did?’

Why would Haiden come into the garden? Xavier was also curious.

“Do you hate your stepmother so much for replacing Madell?”
