6.1 Dangerous UnderBoss

The sun set to the west. Xavier stayed in the room all day while thinking of a way to get out of here. When he stood up and looked outside the window, he was surprised that there were no men guarding the gate anymore!

Even if it was weird that everyone suddenly disappeared when nightfall came, Xavier could not let this chance pass by.

It’s now or never.

Carefully, he tiptoed towards the door and gently twisted the doorknob. The wooden door creaked as he pushed it open.

He peeked outside and saw the empty hallway.

‘Maybe, the Mafia boss wanted to be alone at night,’ he guessed.

As quiet as a mouse, Xavier exited the room and closed the door. He used the same path he took before and arrived at the balcony.

It’s empty either.

The deafening silence echoed in the surroundings like a scary melody. There was only one light to brighten the huge hall, which made the place eerie.

Xavier gulped dry saliva and suppressed the fear. He took a deep breath before he walked down the stairway.

His heart was beating out loud as he reached the main entrance of the place. When he touched the doorknob, he let out a smile of victory. Xavier pushed the door open.

Cold wind gushed.

He stepped forward, making sure he wouldn’t make sounds. Yet as soon as his foot touched the outside ground, a voice called him.

“Where are you going, boss?”

Slowly, Xavier turned his head towards the brown-haired guy who helped him, and the second boss of the Harbor Black Mafia, Gian Alcott.

With his hands behind his back as if to make himself look polite while he was smiling at Xavier, Gian asked him again.

“I wonder where you are going right now instead of resting inside your room, boss.”

How will Xavier respond to this? There’s no way he would tell him that he was going to escape.

Thus, Xavier answered, “It was suffocating inside my room. I went out to get some air.”

“Ahhh, I see,” Gian murmured while nodding his head.

“I will come back l-later,” Xavier added. He turned around and walked to the other side. But when he heard the clicking sound behind him, he ceased.

Xavier looked back at Gian. And when he saw Gian pointing a gun to his side, he held his breath.

Under the moonlight, Gian’s brown hair glistened. The man who always smiled at him is now wearing a gruesome expression as if he just crawled up from hell.

“Boss, it’s dangerous to go outside. Please go back,” Gian said while steadily holding his gun.

Dangerous? Anyone would agree that if they are talking about danger, then the most dangerous person Xavier would encounter is standing before him right now!

Rooted on his spot, Xavier’s hands could only flinch.

Observing Xavier, Gian tilted his head. The corner of his lips soared up, sneering at him as if he was a cat playing with a mouse.

“Why? Boss, you look so scared. That’s weird. This isn’t the first time someone pointed a gun to your face,” Gian said.

That’s right. The first person who pointed a gun at him was Cesar. And the ending wasn’t great. Thus, Xavier couldn’t help but feel extremely scared at this odd situation.

Gian kept calling him ‘boss,’ but his actions showed the opposite.

“Is it because you ate food you are allergic to?”

When Gian dropped the question, Xavier’s heart skipped a beat.

He remembered the food he ate a while ago. Xavier did not suspect anything since Gian said that it was the boss’s favorite. But now, he realized that it was only a trap.

A trap that would show he’s an impostor.

“Old habits might die. But allergies would not,” Gian exhaled.

There was no point pretending as the boss anymore. Xavier knew that he was already caught. He has three options. First, run. Second, confess everything and beg for forgiveness. Or third, tell him that he lost his memories.

Which one would work for a Mafioso?

“If I tell you that I am not your boss, will you believe me?”

At Xavier’s words, the gun on Gian’s hand trembled.

“If I say that my face only resembles that man, will you believe me?” Xavier asked.

As an answer, Gian pointed the gun to the other side and pressed the trigger.

Bang!

The loud gunshot rang in Xavier’s ears, and he almost jumped in shock. But when Gian pointed his gun back at him, he froze.

“I hate indirect answers. It annoyed me the most,” Gian explained. He stepped forward.

Xavier moved backward. He looked behind him, searching for things he could use to defend himself. But there was only a wall and a glass window. When he looked forward, Gian shortened their distance.

Steps stopped.

Xavier’s back leaned on the wall, while the mouth of the gun touched his forehead. Without realizing, he was knocking on heaven’s door again.

He gulped while looking at the man who knows no mercy. A criminal who killed a lot with his own hands. Certainly, Gian wouldn’t hesitate to kill Xavier once he learned that he’s fake.

However, Xavier believed that there might be a chance to get safely out of this.

“If you tell me that you lost your memories, I might buy it,” Gian murmured. “Or, if you tell me that you are the boss’ long lost twin, it might work too.”

Clenching his fists, Xavier peered straight into him and responded, “I doubt that. I could say that you suspected me the first time you saw me. Didn’t you?”

Gian’s brows raised wordlessly.

“Back then, you saved me countless times in front of the Mafia members,” Xavier added. “You purposely suggested food that the boss couldn’t eat. And now, you asked everyone to leave this place before you confronted me. That clearly shows that you were wary at me from the beginning.”

Xavier was right.

Gian Alcott is the “Under Boss” of the Harbor Black Mafia. Trust wasn’t in his genes. But he learned the bliss of loyalty when he became friends with the youngest Mafia Boss in the city, Haiden Black.

When Xavier was brought back to this place, Gian was elated. He was happy that his dear friend came back alive. However, he could not help but feel suspicious after seeing Xavier wake up.

His face and voice resemble Haiden. But he moves and talks differently. At first, Gian hoped that his friend had lost his memories. But when the boss ate foods he was allergic to and nothing happened, Gian feared that they brought the wrong guy.

‘If he is not Haiden, then where is our boss?’ Gian asked inwardly as he clutched his hand around his gun.

It’s crazy that the boss went missing suddenly. But it’s crazier that someone who looks like Haiden appeared out of nowhere.

“Who are you?” Gian asked undertone. He pressed the mouth of the gun firmly on Xavier’s head and repeated. “Who the f*ck are you? Why do you have the same face as him?”

That was also something Xavier wanted to solve.

“I am… Xavier Green.”

Gian placed his index finger on the gun’s trigger and whispered, “Continue.”

Trembling, Xavier answered, “I w-was working as driver in Fugito family.”

When Gian heard him mention ‘Fugito,’ his brows creased.

“Last night, my employer forced me to take a drug. I t-thought I died but when I opened my eyes, I found myself here and my face changed suddenly.”

Xavier skipped a lot of his story. Because he knew that in the end, Gian wouldn’t easily believe him.

After taking a deep breath, Gian’s voice returned.

“You’re saying that your face changed overnight, and you expected me to believe that?”

“No,” Xavier answered right away. “I don’t expect that you would. After all, even I felt like I was going crazy trying to figure out this sh*t.”

Gian would never believe such a ridiculous excuse.

‘But when he woke up before, the first thing he looked at was the mirror,’ Gian remembered.

He once observed Xavier’s face again.

Brows, skin color, eyes, nose, and lips. All of these resemble Haiden. If it was true that Xavier Green changed his face by drinking a drug, then this is too big to be a joke.

‘There’s only one way to know if he’s telling a lie or not.’

“Please let me go,” Xavier begged. “Cesar is still looking for my wife and my son. I had to go and save t…”

Xavier couldn’t continue because Gian hit his head with the back of his gun.

After getting hit, Xavier lost consciousness. Gian caught him with his arms.

Looking at the blank space, Gian whistled.

At his whistle, a boy stepped out from hiding behind the tree.

“B-Brother Gian,” Kija, the boy who served Xavier’s food, nervously called.

“Didn’t I tell everyone to leave this place?”

“S-Sorry. I was j-just…”

“Since when did you listen?”

Biting his lower lip, Kija looked at the unconscious Xavier in Gian’s arm. Breathing heavily, he answered, “Since t-that man s-said that he isn’t our boss.”

“…”

“B-Brother Gian. Is that true? Is it r-really possible that m-man is not…”

“Keep your mouth shut, Kija,” Gian warned as he looked back.

When Kija saw Gian’s glare, he pursed his lips as his complexion turned pale.

“You should keep this to yourself. If you don’t, I will kill you.”

Gulping nervously, Kija enthusiastically nodded his head.

“Don’t let anyone come here without my permission.”

Holding Xavier in his arms, Gian smiled at Kija.

“And also, prepare the torture room.”
