As his eyes slowly opened, the first thing he did was take a look at his surrounding. From the smell of disinfectant and the constant beeping sound, Kayden knew where he was.
"So I lost that match..." he muttered to himself. Although he wasn't too sad about it since he still had one more day to made up the remainder of the money he needed. He was just sad about the fact that he had lost.
A little while later, and a nurse had arrived to do a check-up. After confirming that he was alright, he was then discharged and allowed to go back home.
A little something that ability users have that others don't is super healing. Although this comes in the form of an ability itself, all ability users naturally have a faster healing rate. Meaning that all the injuries and burns he had incurred from the fight would quickly heal. This would take up Mana to do.
He still had a low amount of Mana. Kayden decided to call it a night and head back home. However, he couldn't sleep well that night. Ever since his cousin was kidnapped, he had been having nightmares about her and his uncle. And in most of them, Stacy would either end up dead or barely clinging onto dear life.
The next day, Kayden was determined to finish what he had started. In his bedroom, Jake had a number of thoughts running through his head. He had no idea about what Kayden had been doing all this time. But just like his nephew, he had been unable to sleep ever since that day.
With no way of knowing whether or not she was okay, all he could do was assume the worst. She was all he had in this world. He didn't know how he could keep on living knowing that she had been taken away from him. Everything he does. The fact that he wakes up everyday and faces life head on is because of her, and if she ends up dead...
"That's it. I have no other choice. I need to ask him for help," although he was adamant to get into contact with this person, he had no other option. "Pick up the damn call!" he yelled I'm frustration. However, the person he was calling didn't answer.
"Fuck!" he screamed, slamming his table. Meanwhile, in his own room, Kayden had received another call from the kidnappers.
"Today's the last day. You know what that means," the man said. "I hope you've made progress?" he asked.
Kayden's hands shook and he struggled to gather his thoughts.
"Y-yes. I-I have most of the money already. I'll hand over the ransom tonight," he responded. He wished to ask the man a question, but wasn't sure how he would respond to it. But it was very important, so he managed to barely push past his gears and ask the question.
"I'I want to ask you something," he started off.
"What is it?"
"After I get the full amount, how will we do the exchange?"
The man on the other end chuckled upon hearing this.
"You don't have to worry about that. Once the money is ready, everything else will go as planned," the man replied before ending the call.
"Everything else will go as planned?" Kayden had no idea what that meant. In a school somewhere in the city, a group of teenagers were discussing about Kayden."So we all agree that we'll go visit him after school today?" a boy asked to confirm.
"Yes," the all replied.
In the principal's office, the principal was discussing with a group of teachers regarding the current matter of two students who had been absent for nearly a week now.
After that teacher had headed back to the school, she quickly went to the principal's office to tell him what had happened to Stacy. Shocked, he decided not to send teachers to disturb the family for the time being.
Meanwhile, he thought of helping them however way he could. However, he soon realized that the authorities aren't as helpful in the case as he initially thought.
"I just hope they find a way to bring her back safely," he said, taking off his glasses.
The school staff had agreed to keep this matter from the students. They knew how cruel some could be and didn't want them spreading false rumors or maybe even tormenting them once they had returned back to school. If they would even come back to school to begin with.
Also, they didn't want to cause fear and panic amongst the students from this kidnapping issue. They wanted everyone to focus on their studies instead of the current issues the city was facing. Stacy wasn't the only person that had been kidnapped.
During the day, after spending hours inside, Kayden had decided to head out for a change. He decided to go for a walk to clear his head. It was at the same time that his friends were planning on visiting him.
"Hey, isn't that Kayden?" one of them pointed out.
"It's him. C'mon, let's go say hi," another one said.
Kayden had five friends at school whom he was close with. The group decided to update Kayden on the things that had been going on at school while he was at home.
"So how are you feeling now?" a girl asked him.
"I'm doing better. I'll start attending classes soon," Kayden replied.
He didn't want to tell them about what happened to his cousin. After a while of catching up, they eventually parted ways. Later that day, and Kayden went down to the underground fighting club. Once it was his turn to fight, he had made his way to the ring along with his opponent.
Although there was an upset after his loss last night, it was still his first ever loss. He still had many chances to redeem himself in the future. The match had begun, and his opponent charged forward. After a full day had gone by, Kayden had regained back all of his Mana, bringing him back to peak condition.
He had transformed into his werewolf form, and was as quick as ever, dodging attacks. His opponent was someone with a fire class ability, similar to the person he had fought the day prior.
Unlike fire breathing, his ability allowed him to produce lightning. It was a powerful ability that demanded a lot of Mana to use, but it seemed like his opponent had a large Mana pool, allowing to use the ability so violently. ulses of lightning went flying in all sorts of directions, however, the audience was safe due to the use of a shield ability protecting them from the lightning.
'This guy is quite reckless,' Kayden noted. 'Perhabs I can use that to my advantage.' For his plan to work, he would have to move between the gaps of lightning. What he was attempting to do was quite dangerous, as there was the chance that he could end up shocked. He didn't know how severe it would be, and he didn't want to find out.
He ran as fast as he could, doing his best to avoid the lightning. Seeing this, his opponent moved his hands, altering the direction the lightning was moving. Kayden was quick to dodge the lightning strikes as he quickly closed the distance.
'Let's end this!' he yelled in his mind. His claws were extended, he was really to deal damage to his opponent, however, images of his last match started to cloud his mind.
He was in the same situation. As he was about to slash at the Viper, he suddenly stepped back, causing Kayden to hit nothing but air. Then, like a blur, he felt a stinging pain, before loosing consciousness.
'I... can't loose again...'
He was so close, he couldn't afford to mess this all up. His claws were inches away from his target. He was inches away from being electrocuted. His opponent was reckless with his attacks. Although that allowed him to get close, he wasn't sure if he could land blows of his own.
His biggest fear came true. Luckily, he didn't go down without inflicting damage on his opponent. His claws went deep into the latter's skin, drawing out lots of blood. The effect of the lightning, might not have knocked him out, but it did injure him severely. But, he still managed to stand on his two feet. He wasn't down for the count yet.
His opponent seemed to be affected by the attack. He stopped generating the lightning, giving Kayden a clear patch to proceed further with the attacks. He wasted not a second of this golden opportunity. He sprinted forward, slashing violently at his opponent in all sorts of places.
The man yelled in pain, trying his best to shield himself, however, he didn't make use of his lightning, something Kayden was thankful for. It also seemed like this guy wasn't into hand-to-hand combat and relied more on his ability instead.
Not long after, and Kayden had emerged the winner. Although heavily damaged, he had succeeded in the end.

I hope you enjoyed the chapter. My goal is to one day become a famous author. If you want my dream to become a reality, then please keep on reading and support this work. The paramedics had arrived to take away the loser to receive medical treatment since he was in a severe condition. Kayden didn't require medical attention since he was still conscious and able to walk. Plus, he naturally had better healing since he had an ability. He already had more than enough money to pay the people who had kidnapped his cousin. He had decided that that would be his only fight for the night. He was also running low on Mana.As he was about to leave, he heard a loud shriek coming from the crowd. The people began to run in all sorts of directions. The place was in chaos. Men wearing dark black clothing began to appear as the terrorized the people, sending everyone into a state of panic. Using their weapons, they rained terrier upon whomever was in their path, while blocking all the exits."I told you you didn't have to worry about the arrangements," a man said, stepping forward. He held a cigarette in-between his fingers and casually smoked it as he sauntered his way
Later that day, Jake and Kayden went to visit Stacy at the hospital. Although she hadn't sustained any serious injuries while she was with her kidnappers, the overall experience had left her disoriented, causing her to pass out and remain unconscious for over a day.She hadn't opened her eyes since the time she laid them on her brother back at the underground fighting club. Luckily, it seemed like she had gotten herself back. The nurses at the hospital helped clean up whatever wounds she had and patched her up. Unlike her cousin, she didn't have an ability, so she didn't have anything close to super healing and had to rely on traditional means.Jake, having been told that he could take her back home, couldn't wait another second. Quickly going through the formalities, he and Kayden helped her to the car before driving off.Once they had gotten back home, they placed Stacy on her bed before leaving her to rest peacefully. Although everything had gone back to normal, Jake couldn't shak
Kayden had always been somewhat of a bookworm, so the normal classes were easy for him. He was more interested in the other classes and what they had to offer. With so many students in one academy, competition was bound to be fierce. In order to protect his family in the outside, he needed to grow stronger as soon as possible. He needed to ensure that what happened to his cousin would never happen again. The combat classes were taught by three different teachers since the number of students were many. The class was divided into three groups with each teacher teaching one group. Kayden and his friends made sure they ended up in the same group, while his roommates ended up in a different ground."Good afternoon, students," the instructors greeted the students. "I hope you you are familiarizing yourself with the academy so far. As you may know, this is the combat class. Here, we teach you how to fight and defend with nothing but your body. However, the use of abilities is prohibited in t
Markus was about to activate his ability and change the memories of these five civilians. Closing his eyes, he began to concentrate. To the others, it seemed like nothing was happening."Done," Markus said, opening his eyes. Kayden and Dan were surprised upon hearing this. They weren't sure whether what Markus was saying was true, but their instructor chose to confirm for herself."Who are you?" she asked one of them."We are the protectors of humanity. It is our sworn duty to defend against the notorious Shales," the man replied. They were even more surprised upon hearing this.'That ability... I better make sure I don't step on his toes while I'm here,' Kayden thought."From this experiment, it is clear that his ability could affect five people at once. However, number is not the only thing that determines the effectiveness of your ability. Things such as someone's will power and mental resolve. Or their overall power can make it harder for your ability to work on them. Take me for
The instructor's expression didn't change despite the look on Dan's face. She was more than ready for whatever was coming her way. Kayden had suffered severe injuries from the blow, but he wasn't out of the fight yet. His injuries would be healed by his Mana. He didn't have much of it left, but he still chose to charge forward. The instructor raised her arm, blocking a hit from Dan. Just like before, it didn't seem like it took much for her to block the strike. Dan may be able to copy people's abilities, that doesn't mean than he can copy their quality as well. His ability was just as strong as Marcus's, but it was no where near the instructor's power. Kayden sprinted forward, joining Dan in the fight against the instructor. Despite the fact that Dan was fighting, Kayden had no idea what the instructor's ability was.It was a Mystery Class, but that was all he knew about it. Still, it allowed Dan to somewhat hold his own against her. Although he knew that she was holding back. The oth
Seeing that most of the students were having trouble activating their weapons, one of the instructors, the one who had been talking the most so far, decided to do for them a little demonstration. Being a high ranking staff in the military base, he was bound to have some good weapons of his own. Reaching into his clothes, he pulled out what looked like a wand.Looking at what was in his hand, the students started to wonder what he planned on doing with it."What I have here is a weapon of the Emperor Grade. With it, I will show you what to expect when you activate your magical weapons which have skills"Everyone's eyes lit you upon hearing the Grade of the wand. Suddenly, everyone wanted to have it for themselves. A blue glow began to surround the tip of the wand. Then what came out of it looked akin to lightning but blue in colour, moving with rapid speed, it changed directions before hitting the ceiling and breaking into pieces of glitter."What you have just seen is a lesser versio
Shawn didn't seem like the fighting type. Although he didn't challenge his roommate to a fight the first them they met. The fact that his rank was high was enough proof that he was no where close to being weak. The three chatted about random stuff before finally going to bed. The next day, on his way to class, Kayden was stopped by two students. Looking at their wristwatches, he saw that there ranks were s lit close to his. He was only slightly above them in rank."Look who we have here," one of them said. Titan four. It's nice to see you so early in the morning. So how are you?" he asked, his gaze falling on the wristwatch.Kayden was confident in his strength, he wasn't sure if he could take on two students whose strength were close to his. He decided to play off the situation, hoping that they would let him go peacefully without any trouble."Oh, me? I'm good. Ya know? Just heading to class just like everyone else," he replied. The two students turned to face each other and starte
Kayden knew he needed to grow stronger, but more than that, he desired strength.Coming from an average family that can barely afford to live a fancy life, he hadn't acuired his ability by conventional means. Meaning that he hadn't obtained it with money or other sought-after valuables. No, he had discovered this ability by mistake. Still, he was glad because of it.He knew that his uncle could never afford to get him an ability, not yo mention one that was of the Mystery Class. If he couldn't even get his own daughter an ability, then what could he have done for Kayden. The use of his ability had saved his cousin's life, and it was bound to safe him in the future as well. Kayden knew a lot about different kinds of abilities. Up until he had gotten his, he never knew about one that granted the user the power of transformation. Still, even though his power was rare, he knew that he was still no match for the students who coveted his rank. The fact that they weren't present for magical
A VisionHikari was ready to improve his abilities even further. As an ancient spirit, even before his death years ago, he was a powerful entity with power that rivalled the strongest people on Earth. However, now, combined with the ability of this teenage boy, he figured out how to use the boy's power as well, in ways that Marcus had never even thought of."Come at me, old man!" He yelled, rushing forward with his hands covered in the strange once again. Upon getting closer, he swing his fist out, hoping to hit his target, however, the mayor was able to move out of the way, dodging the attack as he quickly went to deliver a strike of his own.Activating his gravity power, he was able to put Hikari in a direct situation once again. However, after unleashing more of his power, he was able to break free, before channelling a different power with his right hand. While his left hand was still covered by the blue mist, his right hand was covered in a dark red aura that seemed to pulsate co
Fighting against the large centipede-like beast, Kayla was doing her best to evade its attack. Now, standing a good distance away, she activated her ability, covering both her fists in flames as her eyes glowed bright yellow. She rushed forward, delivering a punch to the centre of its body, quickly moving away before it would close its legs, attempting to slash at her skin. Observing the beast, she was waiting for another opportunity to move in to attack. Whenever she would see a chance, she would rush in and deliver a strong blow, her flames burning the area she would strike.Meanwhile, the adventurer had made quick work of the beasts that were rushing towards them. Instead of focusing on Kayla fighting against the large beast, he was more interested in the reason why so many beasts were running towards their direction.'Before these beasts came, there was a loud bang coming from the north. Maybe it's a higher grade beast, or maybe…' he began to run in the direction where the explosi
"I like it when they run," Marcus said, a wide grin tearing through his face as he gazed upon tbe multitude of people scattering across the open road in search of safety. With screams filled with terror, the street was turned upside down as people ran across the roads, some crashing into glass windows just to get to safety.Seeing all of this unfold right before his eyes, there was a sense of excitement brewing within him.The soul that was taking over his body, seeing everyone running to safety, quickly kicked off against his feet, rushing tiwards tbe nearest person before swiping his hand, killing the man in a single strike.Quickly, he rushed towards the next person, repeating the process as he killed people after people, slowly littering the street with a pile of dead bodies. With all this chaos going on, ut wasn't long until someone had gotten in contact with the local police station, informing them lf the crises currently taking place. However, right after he had explained what
Simply on her way through the strange land, searching for someone who could help her leave this strange planet, she was surprised when she stumbled across someone who went by the title of adventurer, a person who hunts down beasts for a living, using their Mana core to either earn money on the global market, or to increase one's own Mana pool by absorbing the energy contained in the Mana core.Standing in front of him, Kayla was wondering what she would say now. She wanted to use this man to help her gain more strength on this planet, and also, she was hoping if he would be her ticket to actually leaving this planet and heading back home."Are you an adventurer?" The man asked, quickly scanning the attire she was wearing. He immediately noticed that her uniform was unlike anything that an adventurer would wear while put in missions. After staring at her clothing for a while, something finally clicked in his mind."Are you a military student?!" He suddenly screamed, his eyes wide in sh
In order to restore her Mana, she would have to practice the total concentration breathing technique, the technique that would enable her body to siphon the natural Mana that was in the air all around her, transporting that Mana into her body for her to utilize her ability. After a few minutes of concentration, Kayla began to notice something strange.'This is weird. Normally, whenever I cultivate my Mana using total concentration breathing, it would take at least a whole hour for my Mana to fully restore. Depending on how injured my body was or the overall quality of Mana I would take in, it would usually take a longer time for my Mana pool to increase.'But, on this strange planet, it's like my mana is increasing at a much faster rate than it would normally back on Earth. I wonder, does this have something to do with the nature of the Mana in the air?'Regardless of what it was, she was glad that she would be able to increase her Mana holding capacity at a much faster rate on this p
"Hey! What is going on here?!" A voice yelled, as the door leading into the room swung open, and rushing in, were two academy instructors who looked to be in a state of panic after briefly witnessing the scene taking place. Quickly, one of the instructors rushed towards the student still standing, grabbing hold of his arm and twisting his body, sending him crashing towards the floor the next second.Meanwhile, the other instructor rushed towards the student who had collapsed on the floor prior to their entry. Kayden was still in his werewolf form, but the instructor knew the student's identity, since there was only one first year student with a transformation ability."I hope he will be okay," picking up the student, the man rushed out of the room with Kayden slumped over his shoulder, taking him straight to the infermary to receive medical treatment. "How on Earth did this happen? Aren't all students meant to be in class during this time?"Picking up the other student from the floor,
After a while of rolling non-stop on the floor, Marcus's cries for help had finally come to a halt. Staggering for a while, he eventually managed to regain his stance, standing upright and facing Kayden with a mixed expression on his face.'Why wasn't I able to tell him what was going on?' he asked himself. 'Does it have something to do with this mark?'His gaze then fell upon the red mark on his arm. For a moment, nothing seemed too out of place about it at this point, but then, after looking away, his eyes went wide in shock as he looked back at the mark on his arm.'It changed!' he hadn't noticed it before, but now, looking at it for the second time, he couldn't help but admit that there was something different about the mark, abd remembering the sizzling pain he felt when he tried to tell Kayden the truth, he had a feeling that the change of the marking had something to do with it.'The last mark was meant to keep me from betraying the second years, but this one. This one must pre
To Have An AbilityRunning through the hallway, Kayden couldn't help but admit that whatever was going on in the academy was strange. For one, everyone's memories had been changed, and after the system had confirmed that Marcus was the one responsible for it, he still wondered why he would go ahead and do such a thing. And also, how he was even strong enough to do something like that. The yellow scent in the air led him towards the abilities class. Swinging the door open, his eyes immediately locked on to Marcus. Without giving him time to react, he rushed forward, raising his hand to deliver a strike right to his face. Opening his eyes, Marcus was able to see the attack just in time as he moved to the side, avoiding the strike completely."Kayden! Wait! I've done it! I've changed everyone's memories back to normal!" Not knowing why Kayden had suddenly arrived and decided to attack him, Marcus couldn't think of anything else to say. However, now that he thought about it more, Kayden
One of the skills he had unlocked from completing a quest from not too long ago. It happened during the time of the inter-student competition, when a rogue Shale had crashed into the arena and started attacking everything in sight. The quest stated that he simply had to survive the encounter, and after doing just that, he had unlocked this skill. As easy as that quest was for him to complete, he now had a skill that would allow him track down just where Marcus was.'Still, I wonder, is all of this really his doing? Did he just decide one day that he would turn against us? But why?' his mind then drifted back to the first time he had attended the abilities class. He remembered when he first heard of Marcus's ability. At the time, he wondered why the academy would let someone with such a dangerous ability be a part of the classes.Following the yellow scent, he ran through multiple hallways. The closer he got, the stronger the scent and the yellow mist would get. After a while of runnin
