06. Caroline Rose

Austin rashly added 1,000 points to every attribute he had except the Dexterity attribute, that was because he knew adding points to the DEX attribute was now pointless.

All he could do was increase his brute strength. He simply did not know any skills related to martial arts or Magic Spells like the system mentioned. He just relied on his small hands, hoping to kill his uncle with them.

Jhon stared at his nephew who was beating him madly, Jhon's large body seemed as light as cotton in front of Austin whose body was even much smaller than his.

'No way!' Jhon felt helpless in front of Austin who was crazed with rage.

Jhon's entire body was covered with bloody wounds. Austin on the other hand caught a glimpse of his hands that were already covered in Jhon's blood. He glanced at his uncle who was already lying helpless, then grunted harshly, "Even if I kill someone like you, I will never regret doing it. But I don't want to dirty my hands any more than this by killing a bastard like you. Let nature itself decide how to punish you..."

Austin carefully carried the still unconscious Selina. He lifted Selina with ease, perhaps because his Strength attribute was increased by 1,000 points, lifting his mother's body that weighed so little was no problem at all for Austin's small body.

'I won't let that damn family bother my mom again!' Austin thought with determination. He would never let his mother be bullied by anyone else, even if that person was his own mother's family.

With a firm step, Austin went to take his mother out of the house that looked like it could collapse at any moment. First, he had to take his mother to the hospital first, taking care of her was more important than anything else.

"Austin? Auntie?" a girl around Austin's age frowned when she saw Austin carrying Selina on his back, "oh my, what happened to auntie? We have to take her to the hospital!"

That girl was the only person who always cared about Austin besides Selina. Carolline Rose, a stranger who suddenly became his best friend 7 years ago. Carolline Rose came from a fairly well-off family, she lived on the border of the Western District and the Eastern District.

Austin himself doesn't know why such a charming girl would want to be friends with him who is just a rural hick guy from the slums. But slowly that question faded away as time went on. Whatever Carolline's reason for befriending him was unimportant, the fact that the girl persisted in befriending him despite being forbidden by her parents was proof that the girl was sincere in befriending him.

"Carol, can you please call a taxi?"

Caroline shook her head, "no need, you can get into my car. I happened to bring my driver today. We can get auntie to the hospital faster by riding in my car..." Caroline said.

Normally Austin would have refused Caroline's help, but since it was related to his mother's problem. He felt that there was no harm in accepting the help of the girl in front of him.

"Thank you, Carol..."

Caroline just smiled in response. The girl quickly asked her personal driver to help Austin load Selina into his car. It didn't take long for the three people to drive Selina to the hospital.

In the car, Austin held Selina's hand. He glanced for a moment at Caroline who was sitting to Selina's left, "what are you doing in the Western District? Didn't your father forbid you to go there?"

Caroline chuckled softly at Austin's words, "I know that. Today I deliberately sneaked away with the excuse of going to the salon, so I could come to the Western District. My driver also won't say anything to my father, so I can calmly go there."

Caroline's personal driver smiled while adjusting the position of his sunglasses, his gesture seemed to say, 'I can keep the lady's secret well'.

Austin sighed softly, "thank goodness. I was worried you'd be scolded by your mom and dad. You know best how your parents would react if they found out you went to the Western District."

Caroline smiled, "you take it easy. By the way, what happened to your mother?"

Caroline was a pretty smart and sensitive girl, looking at Selina's bruised cheeks and the scratches on her forehead, the girl knew that Austin's mother had just been hit by someone else.

"That person came to the house again. He again asked mom to hand over all the money to that bastard. But this time mom fought back and it ended like this..." Austin replied while looking at his mother who was still unconscious. Austin's hand tightened its grip on Selina's rough hand.

"That guy, you mean your uncle, Jhon?" Caroline asked for confirmation.

Austin nodded his head weakly, "That's right. Only he is capable of hurting my mother either mentally or physically. He is a demon that must be removed forever from this world..."

Caroline stared at Austin for a long time before she sighed softly, she then said, "how about you move? The West District isn't that great after all and there are better and more affordable housing areas in other districts. I can find you a housing list with a cheap annual contract fee if you really intend to move soon..."

"Moving house?..." Austin was silent for a moment.

"Right, I can move!" he said excitedly. He had momentarily forgotten that he had so much money now, he could buy a house anytime and anywhere given how many Exchange Points he had.

Caroline frowned, surprised by Austin's sudden burst of enthusiasm.

Austin looked at Caroline with a pair of sparkling eyes, "can you find a house for me and my mom?"

Caroline nodded her head clumsily, it was strange to see Austin looking excited in this situation. "Really... There should be one area in the Eastern District where the annual contract fee is under 1,000 dollars as far as I know. I'll check it out ter-"

Austin immediately shook his head and cut Caroline off, "No, I mean a nice and spacious house. If there's a yard to grow flowers, my mom loves flowers. I don't mind the price at all."

"Price? You mean you intend to buy a house, not rent one?" asked Caroline confirming her guess. As Austin's only friend, she knew more than anyone else how miserable his family's economic situation was.

It wasn't impossible for Selina and Austin to buy a new house, but the chances of that happening were slim.

Austin nodded his head steadily, "That's right, I intend to buy a new house for me and my mom. Maybe it's time we tasted the sweetness of life. Neither me nor my mom want to live this miserable life any longer even if we could afford it..."

"But..." Caroline wanted to ask Austin where he got the money to buy his new home, but she decided against it when she saw the mother-son pair's hands link even tighter.

'There's no point in me asking that. Let it all be Austin and Aunt Selina's business, I as an outsider can't interfere into their personal lives...' Caroline thought.

"Alright, then I'll find you a list of luxury homes that fit your criteria. The sooner you move out of your current house, the better. That means Jhon won't interfere in your life anymore," Caroline said.

Caroline's personal driver hit the brakes, he lifted his gaze to see the reflection of Caroline's face through the rear-vision mirror, "here we are, miss."
