Gerard was home in his study drinking. He was filled with so much mixed emotion. He was confused and he felt betrayed by the man he thought was his best friend.

He looked at the situation and thought that he did not deserve such a betrayal but that was what he got. The fact that Casey was not his daughter made him feel incomplete.
