The house surroundings were a lot kept, the windows shut close and piercing eyes glanced contemptuously towards me mostly from the old women, what I couldn’t fathom was that some did look at me in pity. I don’t know how I manage to not shout ‘hey people. I, your beauty queen am here to save you’ out loud but I am shouting it in my head right now
“Wow, this place is beautiful”I wide gazed at the flat roofed hotel building with my mouth slightly open. In contrast to the hut sized houses of the villagers, I am facing a building located in the middle of what seem like an empire of land, the fence is covered from the inside with fiddle leaf trees with stem stretching to half the length of the fence’s brick work and grasses cluster at the foot of the fenceThe house itself with has climbing yellow flower round it’s walls that had green leaves almost twice the number of flowers, there is a fountain in the middle of the compound just a few steps from the opened gate that had the shape of a human heart water pouring from what I learn to be the Aorta.
What would a beautiful hotel being doing in the middle of an abandoned town? This is the only thing that snaps the game from reality but I couldn’t care less, I did feared that I would have to sleep on thick cloth sprawled on the floor or worst still hang from trees hoping not to fall.“Is it a thing to leave doors open here?” I grunt after the right door of the huge iron double doors flung open when I had barely twisted the handle. Slowly pushing the two doors wider apart a thick breath leaves my lungs at the interior’s dim blue lights and the windows covered with white curtains gave me this warm and peaceful vibe I loved. The empty hall had only a long brown slender couch and a receptionist counter coated with tiles. my black cow leather travel box crunched on the floor behind me as I walk into the building and towards the receptionist counter, the tires desperately crying to me to change them – which I conveniently ignored. Normally I wouldn’t have picked it among the many I had but I guess I was too broken to think straight
“good afternoon pretty” says a young woman, probably in her late thirties from the tiny wrinkles beside her eyes, she should really adopt to using steam and a face massage weekly to remove those and maybe get wipes and serum for the excess make up she wears. Hopefully her lips are not painted red because she murdered whatever color she was wearing when she let it smear past her lip line. Itching to pull her close and set them in place I scratch the back of my neck looking for anything to plant my gaze on.“Welcome to the first edition of ‘my horror games’ you must know everything by now and anything you don't know, you will have to figure it out yourself. You will be meeting your team mates upstairs and the others are a set up to create a realistic game feature to give you the experience you deserve” her creepy wide grin makes me cringe and I nod nervously
“you don't have to act all creep out, the game is yet to begin. I will leave you to figure things out. Good luck” she wiggles her fingers at me in an attempt to wave but my stare glue on her as much as my mouth barely closes “What is your room number?” she asks
Recovering myself; I check my bag, running my finger through it until it hold a slim card which I slip out “It says 56 here” I say as I tilt the tiny card I had forced out from the tiny pocket of my bag observing the huge inscription of the number on the cardI raise my head and she is gone. I didn’t notice the woman disappear to where ever she disappeared to. she didn’t give a bother to direct me to the said room 56, especially when the hotel did look like a family house on the inside“Oh my God, give me those shoes”
I turn to the Pleasant high pitched voice by my left – ooh, I do love long sleek straight hair not exactly in black color though But the confidence in her footsteps and the sharp piercing nature of her dark grey eyes was enough to keep me staring – I still manage not to gape.
Why haven’t I ever thought of what a belly belt would do to over sized jean shirts especially worn with the huge canvas that complimented the whole look and here she is flaunting over some knee length black boots I stuffed out of my high school box that I had abandoned.
“I should take your whole look” I gesture with my fingers snapping in front of the lady who poses like I was her personal audience“If they are worth your shoes” she replies with a light laugh. There is something about her humility that feels like an insult, like she was letting down compliments in words that didn’t seem like compliments. With her outfit and composure I am pretty sure she didn’t believe anyone looked better and how much was my boots anyway?“So, what brings you here?” I ask trying to sound friendlyshe flips her hair behind her shoulder “Chill I am not a model, I know I look like one and it is okay for you to assume this kind of place is not my thing. But I am here to cover a story on my experience in this game – I promised my fans”First off, I didn’t and would never think her a model even if she corrected her wrong shade of foundation and probably quit using very full lashes. Secondly, what is this whole fuss about fans, I try hard to hide my disgust in a forced grin silently regretting my choice of clothes I should show this proud little kitten her place in the fashion world“I am Bella” I interrupt her breaking laugh“I am Rose, named after a flower because my parents felt I was too pretty for a common name” she shrieks softly. Okay, that’s it – how much more am I going to take from this girl, Rose or whatever her name is“That is a beautiful name, I need to go unpack – very much craving a bath right now” I blurt, grinning ear to ear“56 right?” she doesn’t let me answer. She grabs my bag before I could so much as reach for the handleAnd there she was, pulling my bag after her and heading inside, if she felt so high and mighty why make friends with deprived animals like me, I let the sarcasm glow in my face.“I am in room 55 just beside your room and my partner and roommate would love to meet you” she says sweetlyI would very much lock myself inside my room till this whole shadow thing is over, if I meet more team mates like her. I didn’t travel all the way to this abandoned island to be bothered by proud little kittens named after flowers, I roll my eyes in front of room 55, and the funny thing was that Rose carried my bag into the room. What the actual hell?!“Meet Anthony, my personal assistant, Anthony this is Bella, my new friend” she says, gesturing at each of us as she called our nameI nod, Yea right, rich kids association – could I be more surprised? Bagging personal assistants that basically do nothing but breathe beside them to satisfy their insatiable need from being abandoned as a child.
I roll my eyes letting out heavy air as I stroll into the room, every ounce of my body aching to grab my bag and leave … but – but what is it with this place that everybody seems to kick me off my feet with over flowing hotness, who ever knew that human muscles can be connected in such perfection that covering them would be a nuisance to the universe and prying eyes like mine
The burning desire to leave this place evaporates as I am lost looking at the said Anthony, I might have admired his light almost transparent singlet he wore above trousers that he didn’t bother to raise to his waist. he sure knows what he was doing when he chose that
I didn’t notice that I was gaping until his warm huge hands lift mine and just like that he is just a few inches from me but I wouldn’t dare let myself get lost in his eyes, I break our eye contact and focus on the crack in the ceiling behind him managing a smile to hide the fact that I was barely breathing
“Wow, straight from the oven your hotness”He formally bows kissing the back of my hands, his lips soft and warm. Even though I didn’t really care, I still couldn’t help but notice Rose’s lips curl a little, maybe a rethink on locking myself up.The sun had faded and the sky above the Millerton hotels gray with clouds creating what I would always call art, with another few clicks in my phone I smile at my sheer talent with pictures but my smile grows distant when I steady my gaze back at the sky. I have always wanted the opportunity to look at the sky quietly on a hill feeling the massage of cool breeze brush against my face and maybe going for a dip in the ocean every hour. But my last minute decision of signing up for this stupid game had eventually landed me in the middle of a town where everybody stared. “What are you doing out here?” his deep voice grows behind me. Did I forget to mention that Tony’s voice is a definition of heart tripping deep? I control my breath before tilting to face him briefly I hope he found time to cover up at least “A lot on my mind” I reply just as my gaze met his. disappointed, I heave a deep sigh turning back away from him, he walks up by my left, strolling closer until his spicy bergamot f
My huge soft bed sank as Tony crashed on it with his butt, making my whole body wiggled from the effect of the bed bouncing back to form, frowning at him with the full brows that I carved last night raised “must you?” I blurt and he giggles in response squeezing my chicks playfully like I would my little sister and before I can react he is resting his head on a pillow that he placed on my laps. ‘Player’’I snort, as if reading my mind he winks at me. Rolling my eyes I shift my gaze from him to Rose, gracefully crossing her legs on the tiny couch by the bedside, her long sleek hair in a high ponytail pouring on the collar of her white fluffy gown, her warm skin tone shined from high up her lap down to her feet which were hanging from the floor – and again how is it that Tony is sharing a room with her and they don't seem to be romantically involved. “So – boss – the plan?” Thelma’s shrill voice breaks the mumbling from Rose making a snap chat video to Tony whispering some words I know
The chilly air in the city swayed the low grasses against our boots, I didn’t really want to go on my first detective mission a.k.a saving the village agenda with the grumpy ass mate that seems to be jealous of me. Not like I blame her though but I am still disappointed. Tony did want to go with me, I saw it in his squeezed face when Rose chose to go with him. I am pretty sure he glared at her to change her mind. It could even be that they shared a room because her ass was scared to go to bed alone in this weird ass town or just her obsession with unaware pictures and videos. “They just keep staring” Thelma says, dragging my gaze towards her, her voice is a lot more friendly and she is gazing helplessly at the old woman who hurried into her tiny house which I would argue is a freaking hut. Thelma was right though, from the looks of it, the villagers would stare and when we look back they would go back to whatever they were doing only to stare again after we had looked away. They wou
Anthony On the other side of the hotel, the houses laid scanty and there were more trees on this side than the side Bella had taken with Thelma, the houses were mostly empty and the few we saw hurried in and locked themselves before we could reach them. From the look outside of most of the empty houses one could tell that inside was dripping with messiness. Speaking of messy, I wonder if the other girls had torn each other apart in a feat of rage “I live in an estate so I have a hard time adjusting to this place” Rose’s soft voice wallowed in the silent atmosphere while I and Olivia grunts at her in response. She is making a video with her phone for her fans, I wonder why she needs a response from us. She had been telling a tale that I wasn't following, the trees stood tall from the pathways and we could barely see the hills that led us here from this side. This is probably the most affected place in the town. “There seem to be only old people here” I mutter, dragging Rose’s atten
The setting sun poured red lights on the narrow empty streets and the lights within the huts grew even brighter, the silent calm evening breeze brushing against the low grassing, swaying dry soil over them. My room had the white fluorescent flickering lights on too and everyone is present except Olivia, all their gaze focus on a group of teens hugging themselves on my bed trembling and whimpering. I sat by the side table opposite them with Thelma standing beside me holding a mean frown. I found them where I remembered seeing them the previous day but this time they didn't giggle or play games instead they shook with fear all forcing themselves on the wall when I tried to approach them and it did take me hours to convince them I am not a ghost kidnapper. Chuckling within me, I watch Tony pat the youngest among them, a girl who had not stopped sobbing her neat ponytail now loose and messy with her tiny hands covering her face on his chest. “How are you kids here?” Thelma’s typical co
And just like that, it is morning again. Thanks to the hole in the curtain, the light from the sun rests on my eyes causing me to squeeze my face, using my hand as a shade, I slowly open my eyes. The fluorescent bulb in my room had tripped off, maybe during the night Come to think of it, I never really noticed the torn holes on the curtain fabric when I arrived. Something that was supposed to be a game vacation is starting to feel like a joke, with one day gone and not one prominent clue as to what happened to the mansion family and their relation to this kidnapping whispers. Scanning my mind through the movies I have seen looking for possibilities of some back story like a group of kidnappers using a horror story as a front. But that wasn't clicking – a lot of unsettling questions would arise. How will you explain the kidnapping shadows that whisper instigated by mere mortals? Even the gamers couldn't pull it off and worse still unless they sold them or their organs, conducting a k
Why exactly did I fall for that? I should be ashamed of myself not smiling like a fool. He just teased me and I fell for it – like a good old plane crash. Now forcing a frown “I will show him” I mumbled within myself, looking up at him who had now stuck out his head from the curtain since I haven’t followed him in but the look on his face forces my lips to cringe so I rush into the house hoping my fearful thoughts were just a mere expression of exaggerated worrying. “Olivia” I mumbled, barely hearing myself as the words slipped from my red glossed lips, his head disappears into the hut as I got close. Swinging the beads to my right I badged into the tiny house hoping nothing bad happened to her, she must have not slept in the hotel yester-night maybe she ended up in this hut and then the shadows – “Olivia” my voice deepens this time, with a huge sigh of relief I drop my shoulders. Tony stood watching Olivia hold the paper she was looking at. After the bout of relief I felt was a rush
The cool evening breeze dispel my gold strands all over my face forcing me to tug them behind my ears every single minute, Tony and Olivia were a few feet behind me. We had stopped fast-walking when we got tired and after hours of trying to get us to talk to each other, Tony had found Olivia to be a very good ‘conversationist’ – his words not mine. Much to my displeasure, their giggles are growing loud in the silent atmosphere, and the houses a finger count some 50 plots around us, most of which were presumably empty. The breeze grew even colder making me squeeze her arms, shivering a little and some distant whispering grow in my ears like someone was talking into my ears and yet it felt distant at the same time. The words are indistinct and difficult to make out. “Did you hear that?” I turn towards them. Olivia’s face glowing from laughter and Tony's amused face managing a chuckle, I frown and turn away. This was the very reason I had not looked at them since I asked Tony to give m
