Kendra’s eyes shifted between her son and scared daughter before sighing. “Son, the money we had was never enough for your father's hospital bills. Those loan sharks were never going to borrow our family a single cent more since we hadn't even paid the amount we owed in a long time. So…..I borrowed from Mr. Hay, in exchange for having him hold the house as collateral.”

Max felt a weight press on his shoulders, tempting him to just let go of his scared little sister and succumb to the ground.

“Mom, why…….why didn't you tell me any of this?”

Before Kendra could answer her son, they heard a ruckus near the bungalow entrance. There, everyone found the drunk lanky man trying to force his way past the line of hefty-looking men.

“Let me through? I'll fuck you guys up if you don't get out of my way.” The lanky man spoke while wobbling. He was too drunk to even stand properly on his feet.

“Uncle Jerry, what are you doing?!” Max grounded out. “Just stay aside! Don't go looking for more trouble!
