Staying at Valerie's House

"Me?" Benjamin's face twisted into a cynical expression. "Why point fingers at me? You didn't have some history with your manager here? Weren't you intentionally aiming for his face when the chance came knocking?"

James could not stand the insult, so he unceremoniously threw another punch towards Benjamin's face.

"You fool, never seem to learn from your mistakes!" Benjamin snorted as he adjusted Victor's body once more.

"Hey, hey, stupid James! Stop your- "

BAM!

Another fist landed on Victor's face. The bridge of his nose was instantly broken and blood gushed out like a faucet.

Victor spits fresh blood from his mouth. Now he was staring at James with rage.

"You moron! Are you looking for payback?!" Victor roared. "If that's what you want, let's take this outside and settle it like men!"

James' hands trembled once more. "Mr. Kane, I swear I didn't mean to! It was this jerk who forced me to hit you in the face."

Victor then shifted his gaze towards Benjamin, and instantly he felt a bit of fear in the back of his mind.

He retorted, "You did that intentionally, didn't you? Don't you realize I'm the manager of this hospital? I could have you arrested for this violent act."

Benjamin furrowed his brow before saying, "I committed violence against you? Please, don't jest, Mr. Manager. Your own employee did that. You don't have any evidence to charge me."

Victor was very upset but he realized the truth of the matter. It was James who had beaten his face to a pulp.

Valerie sensed that Benjamin had found a turning point, so she chimed in, "Mr. Kane, you are undoubtedly a manager in this hospital, but have you forgotten that we're from Morgan Co. Ltd., one of the biggest companies in the city?"

Victor swallowed his bitter-tasting saliva.

Although Morgan Co. Ltd. was rumored to be in financial trouble over the past few months, their influence in Regal Hill had never really gone away.

Victor was well aware that even the owner of WellCare Hospital had to bow respectfully when speaking to the Morgans. So, what about him, merely a manager in this place?

"Well, since I'm feeling generous, you can leave this hospital and take the old man with you," Victor said finally. Then, he stared at Benjamin. "And, can you please release your dirty grip from my wrist?"

Since Victor had already let the Morgans out of this hospital, Benjamin released his grip.

He stated, "Hey, I'm onto your little plot to extort the wealth of the Morgan Family. I'll let you off the hook today so you can learn your lesson. But if you dare pull this stunt with another patient, I won't rest until you face my consequences."

However, Victor never felt he should be afraid of that threat.

"Damn it! I've shown you kindness, and you threaten me in return!"

Victor snapped, "James, get out of this damn room! Let Albert Morgan meet his end at the hands of a sorcerer if that's what he desires!"

Not wasting any more time, Victor and James walked out of the room.

"Well, you can head home now," Benjamin said to Valerie. "We'll meet again tomorrow night."

Just by then, Albert Morgan asked, "Son, I overheard on Valerie's phone that you recently went through a divorce. Now that you're without a home, where do you plan on going after this?"

Benjamin chuckled, his laughter as thin as his lie. "I bought an old, cheap sedan with the remainder of my savings. So, well, I'll be living there for a while."

"Living in an old sedan?" Albert's face became gloomy. "You saved my life from the brink of death and exposed the doctors' devious schemes in this hospital. How could we ever let you endure a life of suffering?"

Valerie nodded in agreement. "Ben, I still have one spare room. You can stay there until you have enough money to rent an apartment."

Benjamin raised his eyebrows, expressing interest. "It would be much more comfortable and safer than living in a sedan! But, do you have any objections? As everyone already knows, I'm a useless man who will only consume food at home."

Hearing Benjamin put himself down like that made Valerie feel bad.

"You don't have to mention that, Benjamin," she said. "Even if you devour everything in my kitchen, who cares? I'll always whip up something for you."

Benjamin was touched. His ex-wife never wanted to cook for him, but Valerie, whom he did not know, easily offered to cook for him.

"Since you don't mind, it seems I'll be imposing on you for the next few days until I find an affordable apartment to stay in," Benjamin expressed with gratitude.

"No problem," Valerie waved her hand briefly, then turned to her family. "Grandpa, dad, mom, let's go home."

The Morgan family residence was also located in Fort Valley. Although it was not among the most luxurious villas, their place was quite comfortable and spacious.

Benjamin helped Albert Morgan get out of the car and went to the main room.

"Thank you, son, I feel very well, you don't have to do this for me." Mr. Morgan briefly resisted when Benjamin's hand carried him.

"Sir, while you might be feeling okay, your body is actually still quite fragile," Benjamin explained, "You need to be assisted to do your daily activities until I finish making the potion to cure your illness completely."

After escorting Mr. Morgan to the main room, Benjamin and Valerie said goodbye to them.

"My place is in Fort Valley's third-class neighborhood," she mentioned as they pulled into the Morgan family's yard. "It's not too far, just a five-minute drive from here. Just follow my car."

Benjamin nodded before getting into his sedan and following Valerie's Benz from behind.

Valerie's house was much smaller than the Morgan family residence. It did not even have a second floor. However, like other buildings in Fort Valley, it was still spacious and luxurious.

For one person to live without a housekeeper was more than enough.

After entering the house, Valerie led Benjamin to his new room.

"Usually, my friends use this room for overnight stays, but lately, I've had fewer guests due to my busy schedule at the company," she explained. "Is this room not too cramped for you?"

Benjamin shook his head. "No, it's quite spacious and comfortable. I never imagined I'd have a room like this in my life."

Valerie only smiled faintly. "I'm glad you like it. Oh, as I promised earlier, I'll cook for you. What would you like to eat tonight?"
