The coming week moved rather slowly for the students. Every first-year senior eagerly anticipated the trial, as this was their first time putting their abilities on full display in a grandeur manner like this. Not only would they put their abilities on display, but if they performed well enough to be among the first five, the organization would issue rewards and certain privileges. Centurion, in question, wasn’t interested in the position or ranking of the students; all they were after was to unearth the full ability of Cyphs by testing them in combat, and what weaknesses they possessed. In general, though they weren’t interested in the trials and all, if it could give them the results they needed then it was something they were willing to do. Besides, who wouldn’t like a good show?…The day of the first segment trial finally arrived. All first-year students assembled at the Centurion headquarters. Their spirits were high and their blood boiling, itching for action. The atmosphere wa
Seeing as the students attentively listened to him, the commissioner nodded and continued, “When the trial begins, you are required by the rules to fight anyone you encounter. Failure to do so will mean automatic disqualification.”The commissioner’s words undoubtedly generated a buzz from the students, especially from those who had special plans. The aim, as they thought, was to survive till the end of the allocated 10 hours, and to do that, they had to either steer clear of the stronger ones or form teams. Everyone had the unanimous plan to stay off the path of the elites or even team up with them. Now that the rules were against it, if any one of them was unlucky to meet the elites… words didn’t need to be said to understand the outcome.Commissioner Glenn anticipated their reaction and waved his hand to quell the talking. “I know it seems harsh that way, and the rule might favor some of you. The basis of this trial, in the first place, is to test your skills individually, and we c
Finnian couldn’t help but mull over what Martin said about Caesar wanting revenge. He thought it possible but wouldn’t that be a waste of time? The list went on till it was number 65…“Finnian Gene!” The commissioner called out. It was finally his turn. Finnian made his way through the crowd to the front. Surprisingly, that was where Caesar and his friends were. The latter heard the name called and became attentive. As Finnian made it to the front, whisperings, and side scoffs fell into his ears, obviously not in favor of him. Caesar and his crew, in particular, didn’t hide their disdain. Commissioner Glenn stepped out for a bit to quickly tidy some other things.“Good luck today, you’re going to need it all,” Caesar spoke to Finnian’s hearing. The latter said nothing in response and only stood there waiting for his time to jump off the aircraft.Caesar smiled, seeing that Finnian ignored him. He wasn’t the least bit angered by it. “You can choose to ignore me all you want but that wo
Finnian didn’t know what his opponent’s ability was, to begin with. However, not a hint of fear appeared on his face even as he sidestepped his opponent’s attacks. From what he could gather so far, his opponent moved quickly, meaning that he excelled in dexterity to an extent. However, Finnian has seen movements faster and attacks more dangerous from Joel. Back then, even Joel had failed to land a hit on Finnian, much less Gabriel. Compared to Joel, Gabriel’s movement was a big joke. Finnian had finally gotten what he wanted from his opponent and didn’t want the fight to linger any longer than it should. He moved slightly to the side, parrying his opponent’s fist that had arrived in front of him while smashing his already formed fist into his opponent’s abdomen. Thud- The sound of something falling to the ground sounded out lightly as Gabriel’s body plopped to the ground unconscious. What was supposed to be a match of at least two minutes ended in a one-hit knockout. Finnian's expres
The basis of this trial was fighting random opponents. They could be just about anyone including friends. It wasn’t that you wanted to fight them, but the rules of the trial were that strict. Plus, some would like more than anything else to win against their opponent, notwithstanding their personal relationship. A case like this was Joel and Finnian’s friend Martin.Martin lived in the fourth district as well as Joel. They talked more often than none and you could say that Joel was Martin’s close friend in the fourth district. However, in today’s trial, they were to confront each other as opponents who wanted nothing more than to win. They might be reluctant to fight but since it was only a window of two minutes, they could just do their best to pass time until time was up.The two met themselves coincidentally as they randomly patrolled the island in search of opponents. And about each other’s abilities, Martin was left in the dark more than Joel was. Joel had always been on the down
Bam!Joel’s fist came crashing down like a meteor with no restraint whatsoever, kicking up quite a bit of dust as a result. However, Joel’s expression changed because despite how fast and strong his attack was just now, Finnian seemed to be a step ahead. Just before Joel’s fist could reach him, Finnian sprung into the air, making Joel hit nothing more than empty air. However, Finnian had no intention to stop here.Bam!Finnian shot toward Joel like a bullet, sending a kick to the latter’s face. Luckily, Joel was quick enough to defend in the last second, but the force from the impact of the collision still washed through his body making him stumble backward. Almost coughing blood, Joel clutched his chest. “What just happened?” He hadn’t expected his first clash with Finnian to be this strong. As a matter of fact, he hadn’t imagined being the one to be in such a position where he had to suppress the impulse to cough up blood.Joel looked across to his opponent to him simply standing li

The fight became increasingly intense with every passing second. One side focused on attacking relentlessly while the other simply patted the attacks to the side, with both sides showing no sign of exhaustion. Joel just figured out that Finnian was effortlessly deflecting his attacks and instantly grew frustrated once again. He was giving it his all yet his opponent seemed to match his every move. Truthfully, this would be frustrating for anyone, especially for one who was currently going all out at the cost of exhausting his stamina to the max. However,Just when Joel thought nothing more could happen, he started to notice something shocking. Finnian wasn’t only matching his speed but was gradually starting to surpass it!Joel could now say that this was outside his expectations. With the strings of events that had happened in this fight, this was the most unexpected. It wasn’t how Finnian could deflect so easily his attacks, nor was it how he could match up to it, but how he could s
