Jack wanted to accept that offer, she seemed happy to see him and quite interested in the matter of having dinner with him, but that was not the appropriate time, at least not for Jack. “Cassie, I'd love to, but it's not a good time,” he said, approaching her. She questioned him if he was busy or had an appointment, and he said yes. Jack apologized once again and walked into his apartment, watching the disappointed girl walk away. It had been a complicated day.
The next morning, Jack avoided Cassie as much as he could. He feared that she would call him for another date soon, and deep in his heart, he would rather not turn down another one. In fact, he definitely wanted another one.Jack was more in line in the upstairs cafeteria than Kurt, who was more or less seven employees behind. The size of place was large enough to hold everyone there, and the number of tables and chairs was almost surreal. As soon as he had filled his tray, Jack nodded to Kurt, to show him where to sit, Kurt nodded positively and followed the flow of the line.Jack, already seated at a small, empty table, was playing at rolling the noodles with his fork, waiting for his partner. He tasted the first bite and discovered that he liked noodles made with oil. On the other hand, he didn't like eggs, not at all, he even risked eating one of them, but had to take a long sip of the juice to make it go down. He ignored the salad and went on to the mashed potatoes, they were just as good as the noodles. Finally, Kurt sat down in front of her, his tray full and identical to his. “I was starving,” commented the newcomer, immediately starting to eat.A few minutes while they were still eating, Jack was able to visualize the figure of Cassie entering the room, accompanied by an employee from another sector, whom he did not yet know. She smiled at him, who did the same. Suddenly, someone approached the table. “Look who's here. My good old friend, Jack,” the male voice said. Jack made eye contact, but he already knew who it was. “You've recovered well from that beating, huh?” the man said. Judging by his height, he must have been about three years older.“You didn't expect me to stay all these years with that little scratch, did you, Ronan?” said Jack, taking a bite of the apple on his tray. All around, everyone was looking in his direction, as the tone was high. Cassie watched from afar. Kurt, standing next to Jack, was confused, as he didn't know Ronan.“What are you doing here? Don't tell me you came back to New Shadow hoping to escape from yourself?” confronted Ronan. At that moment, Jack placed the rest of his apple on the table, turned around, and made eye contact, angry. He and Ronan had a history. He was surprised to see him in the company. Maybe he was one of the new additions Josh had mentioned.“What are you here for, Ronan? They finally caught you touching each other in the trash?” debauched Jack. Without a second thought, Ronan grabbed Jack off the table and pulled him hard, pulling him out of his chair and onto the floor. Grabbing him by his sweatshirt, he lifted him and punched him hard, leaving the boy staggering around with some blood on his nose. Jack returned it just as hard, and the two of them started punching and kicking each other. Both were former mini gang members and had experience with small street fights. Ronan was older and ran the group at the time. Jack did not sympathize with him, but the past was treacherous. Like any normal person, several surrounding tables emptied and gathered in circles to observe and encourage the confrontation. Kurt, on the other hand, stepped in between the boys and shoved Jack, who let out a slight growl at his friend. Kurt rebuked him with a serious and slightly worried look. He had to push his friend to get him away from Ronan. Jack realized what he had done and gave Ronan a harder shove, giving enough time for two security guards to intervene and take Jack and Ronan out of the room, to their respective sectors. Cassie approached Kurt, “Kurt, what happened?” asked Cassie, from beside the table.“I don't know, Cassie,” he said directly. Kurt knew that Jack disliked revealing about his past. Even though it was only a matter of time before everyone found out, as much as he could keep the secret, he would. Cassie wasn't satisfied with the answer but didn't take the conversation any further.Jack was taken to the department responsible for internal problems. Ronan was in another room. A sermon had been heard until Josh appeared in the room and told Jack the news. The company had entered a program for rehabilitated and former troublemakers. That justified the issue of Ronan being in the company. It was not a good thing. As he left the room, Josh introduced him to two members of the program, Wallace and Martin.“Hey, aren't you the person who fought with Ronan earlier?” asked Wallace, approaching and greeting him, after noticing the slight bruises on Jack's face. The line caught Martin's attention.“I thought Ronan fought with an ex-gangster. Are you an ex-gangster?” he asked, curious. “I crashed my car while driving drunk without a license. The police caught me and saw that I already had some questionable histories. Anyway, I'm here now,” Martin said nonchalantly.“I got caught with drugs,” said Wallace. “I and some guys were selling a lot. If he was really hanging out with Ronan, he must have used something of mine,” he finished proudly.Jack sighed, realizing that there was no way he could run away from the situation forever. “I met Ronan by chance. At the time, I was in a more aggressive phase, so I started hanging out with him. Burning trash cans, using drugs, starting fights, and such. At some point, I had to give it a rest. I am where I am now,” confessed Jack.Suddenly, a young man approached them. Jack recognized him immediately. “Holy shit, it's you. Come here, give me a hug, buddy,” said the man approaches, Jack joined in. In Jack's past, if he could have used the word friend it would have been with Evan, he was the only member of the gang who had a bit of reasoning and sense. The day Ronan was going to mess with the puppies, Evan was purposely not there. After he had been beaten, Jack didn't know about him, but since he hadn't seen him anymore, he assumed he was in jail. “I knew you would succeed. You were trouble,” he laughed. Jack felt a good feeling about that. As much as he would have to deal with Ronan around, he would have an old friend helping him. Evan hated Ronan too. It only gave Jack time to welcome Jack back to the office until Josh reappeared and told him to get back to work. The union between New Shadow and Lightning offered psychological help to the employees. The entire service was offered as an option, except for a few. Cassie had been forced to consult, given her situation regarding the slaughter; she liked the idea. Jack, on the other hand, was not on the list until he had beaten Ronan in front of everyone. The team agreed that it wouldn't be a bad idea if he consulted as well. Scarcely any people knew about Jack's past, including his superiors, who knew nothing. Jack didn't like therapy, his problems couldn't be solved by mere conversation.“Good afternoon, Jack. I'm Camille, and I'll be taking care of your psychological follow-up for the next few months,” she said, smiling and friendly. “First of all, let's get to know each other, tell me a little about yourself, about who Jack is,” she asked, using the standard of communication.Jack didn't have that much patience for that. “It's in my file,” he said, direct, but without being rude. “I already hav
Walking through the halls, Jack returned to work, thinking about what a waste of time that appointment had been. Martin and Wallace were in a department close to Jack and Kurt's area.Because they had changed the day before, the probability of not changing that day was slightly higher, but not enough to disregard it happening. There were times when he and Kurt changed three days in a row, it was so scary that they thought it would happen every night. Walking some more, time later, Jack found Evan doing the opposite route, in a department a little further away.“Any appointments now?”, Evan asked, as they crossed paths through the halls.“I was going to see a friend,” Jack replied, amiably.“Is he a former gang member too?”, Evan asked curiously. Jack was not one of the friendliest guys at the time. In fact, I didn't think he had any friends at all.“No, just someone I sympathized with not too long ago,” he explained. Evan commented that he seemed different, and changed. “If you only k
Jack told Kurt about what had occurred with Evan the night before. His partner asked if he had noticed anything different, but Jack said that he didn't have enough external changes to be of interest. That was a relief. Jack also confessed that Evan was part of his past, a good part of it.Later, Jack had been called into the coordinator's office. He had no idea why. “Evan?”, Jack called out, noticing his presence, in the same place. “What are you doing here?” he asked. Evan explained that he was justifying something that had occurred the night before. He had said that he had brutally broken a bathroom door because he was trapped. Jack found this strange. In the coordinator's office, he only received a few authorizations for copyrighted texts and sources. He was worried about Evan, so he went to the bathroom to see exactly what had happened. When he got there, he found Evan looking at the broken door and sighing, “Damn changes,” he confessed. Finally, he noticed Jack's figure standing
“We are here for the investigation of the incident of a few days ago, told one of the officers, in front of Cassie. That was it, finally what Cassie least wanted was happening. She had tried to avoid talking about it as much as possible because the whole thing was really messing with her psyche. Since the incident, she hadn't been able to talk about it very openly with anyone serious, but she knew that eventually, they would come after her to talk, after all, she was a witness. Cassie was used to being a respected person, but the recent events made her disturbed, not only by the level of violence but by the fact that nothing made sense and that she would have nothing to add to her statements, since, apart from the bodies, she had seen nothing else; except for the wolves. On the day of the event, she told the firemen, police, and friends about the wolves, but no one took it seriously because she doubted what she had seen, being in a state of shock. She had thought a lot about whether s
Kurt left the table a few minutes later, heading toward his desk upstairs. Jack was preparing to do the same when Cassie sat down with her tray next to him. “Hi,” she said excitedly. “I wanted to talk to you and Kurt, but he's gone. I'll cut to the chase, do you want to join me in seeking the truth?” she asked confidently. Jack made a questioning expression. “About the incidents that have been going on,” she added.“Isn't it the job of the police to take care of that?” he asked, not giving much interest.“It should be, but I'm uncertain if it was the police who spoke to me today,” she replied. She got Jack's full attention with that one sentence. “Earlier today, they called me as a witness, to talk about what happened. They asked many questions, but they didn't ignore me, Jack. They listened to everything I had to say, especially about the wolves.” He looked at her with a questionable face, since she showed no interest in talking about that subject. “Yes, I talked about them. They bel
“Why he's a wolf, but that doesn't mean he's already changed,” the mystery woman said, laughing, being slapped. “You've always been a wolf too Evan, all humans can be, but not everyone will become one,” she danced. “It's a trend that hits some men, young, troubled ones. Did you know that werewolves were created by witches?” she asked, as she played around with the gray wolf she had made transform. “You were a curse from the past that has not been solved. Today it attacks young people like you, and like this other poor boy. I can hear him screaming today, he's already changing,” she laughed. Suddenly, she was gone, and he was there, human and naked, stoned. The police found him seconds later, and that's when he had another pass. He had convinced himself that the woman must have been just a tramp and that he must have changed just because he was using too many drugs, so when he first came out, he didn't go after Jack.It took him a little while, but he eventually found his wife again a
By the time it was 6 pm, none of the boys had felt anything, it was finally a night without another horrible change. So, everyone went back to their respective places. Jack and Kurt were the only ones who lived in the company building. The wolves talked about doing an internal investigation to find out who the black wolf was because it was certain that something else would happen soon. They feared that it would result in more victims. The other day, at lunchtime, the five boys met and sat together. Cassie was sitting with some women from various industries in the distance when she made eye contact with Jack, reminding him that he had not told Kurt about his conversation with her. The whole wolf thing was taking up too much of his life, although he couldn't help it, since it was part of him, fighting it wouldn't make it any better. Cassie was a smart girl, maybe her commitment to figuring things out would help in the quest to find this black wolf if he was there. At the table, the boys
“Let Jack go, please,” Evan ordered once again.“Evan, you are not in charge here. You know I only answer questions after I've had my fun, and I'll torture until I'm satisfied enough to talk,” she said, delighting in the boy's writhing body.“You should be torturing me, witch. You came for me, for my doubts!” the boy shouted.“True, my dear Evan, but Jack has more doubts than you, which gives more time for fun and torture,” she said, as she continued to move her arms in the air, this time including the other in the torture, she laughed even more. Again and again, she tortured, again, and again she continued and laughed….Again and again, she tortured, again, and again she continued and laughed.Again and again, she tortured, again, and again she went on and on and laughed.Again and again, she tortured, again, and again she went on and on and laughed.BUT THEY HOPED TO WAKE UP SOON.Finally, a bolt of energy blinded the boys, radiating throughout the bathroom area, and they fell to th
