Travis removed the earpiece, having absorbed the unsettling news of Gerald Kramer’s actions. Oh, poor Matt, what an unfortunate fellow. Matt, it seemed, had fallen victim to the consequences of striking deals with the devil.

A mere two minutes after Travis reached home, Joanna, accompanied by Maya, walked in through the door. Travis saw them and immediately put on a big smile, hiding any trace of concern or whatever was deeply disturbing him.

Adhering to his routine, he scooped his daughter into his arms, planting a tender kiss on her forehead before turning his gaze to Joanna. With a casual air, he inquired, “How was your day?”
