Within the confines of her study, Madame Emma fixed Ashley with a disdainful sneer, the atmosphere charged with tension. Shaking her head, Madame Emma questioned Ashley's unexpected presence with a biting edge, "What are you doing in my house?"

Caught in the grip of unease, Ashley, facing her grandmother in person for the first time, swallowed hard. With a palpable hesitation, she ventured to address the matter at hand. "Um, it's about the unjust disownment."

"Unjust disownment?" Madame Emma responded, a hint of amusement evident in her tone.

In a bold assertion of her innocence, Ashley nodded resolutely. "Yes, I deem it unjust because I haven't committed any wrongdoing. I played no part in whatever transgression led to our disownment," Ashley ardently defended her position.

Madame Emma, however, greeted Ashley's defense with a chuckle, her skepticism palpable. "And why should I believe what you've just said, huh? Give me a reason, Ashley," she demanded.
