Nessa tried to move her nephew’s hand, while he kept her in the air. The woman’s face began to turn purple as she floundered for oxygen. The commander again crossed her arms to her chest as she enjoyed the macabre spectacle.

"Commander." A guard approached the man, trying to get his attention.

"Heafod," said the guard again.

The man released his grip on Nessa’s neck, who fell defenseless to the ground coughing while holding a hand on her throat, finally free from the grip. Her hair fell on her face while she was bent over the ground, her knees on the ground and the palm of her other hand tucked into the sand.

The man commander looked down on her with contempt.

"I’m the only one standing between you and the blade your daughter wants to put in your neck, and that’s because I still need you for the moment," she said, chanting

TarynThe sun was still high and warm in the sky, even though it was late afternoon. As they approached Althea, the days got longer and hotter. Taryn looked at the men around her. Many could not stand the heat so they had taken off the leather chain mail remaining with a simple tunic of which they had rolled up the sleeves up to the elbows leaving the skin exposed to the sun's rays. In a short time the skin had turned red and with the passing of the days it had darkened.Taryn now had red cheeks due to the strong sun, as well as the nose that was now beginning to lose the layer of dead and burned skin. She felt her whole face go on fire and did not dare to take off even a layer of clothes for fear of reddening everywhere.Lord Taront, on the other hand, looked impeccable in his leather suit, even though his forehead was sweaty, while Lord Grander did nothing but snort from his cart and wipe his forehead with a silk handker

TarynTaront's informant had placed them in one of the villas he owned within the city. The guards showed her the route to the richest part of the city, the one where huge buildings belonging to the wealthy merchants of Aeris stood. The inhabitants of the city did not suffer from hunger, there were several poor categories but, compared to the lifestyle of the other kingdoms, the inhabitants of Aeris were well-off. It is no coincidence that it was Mihedel's richest and most prosperous kingdom. The house was built entirely of stone and extended over two floors surrounded by climbing vegetation that had covered most of the external façade and had reached the second floor, even covering the marble of the balconies that overlooked the street from which they had come. The entrance had a large wooden door with engraved elaborate designs and colored with streaks of gold. The thick doors were wide open and waiting for

TarynOver the next few days, Taryn barely left her room. She had been locked in there reading old books they had gotten for her. Grander had advised her not to go out for a walk around the city or to do any other activity that included leaving that house, so she had limited herself to being alone on the balcony listening to the sounds of the capital, the sound of the wind and the waves crashing on the rocks. She didn't know how she could perceive all those sounds, recognize them indistinctly, but she could clearly hear the waves and the sea. One part of her wanted to see her up close, but the other part of her knew she had to sit still and wait.Waiting was the only thing she had left to do. The wait became more and more unbearable, but she had promised herself to hold on. At least for a while.Taront was out all day and almost all night since they arrived, she had only managed to see him in passing a few times, sh

The carriage ride was short. For the first time since she knew him, Taront was nervous. He continued to move his legs up and down nervously, causing the wooden planks forming the floor of the carriage to vibrate. So he's human too, eventually, Taryn thought, looking at him.Her brave knight, sitting in front of her, observed the landscape from a crack of the green curtains, while Grander, at her side, stared at an indefinite point above Taront's head in front of him, his gaze focused and thoughtful.Due to a jolt the carriage stopped and all four turned their heads towards the wooden door that opened creaking. Taryn breathed deeply again, as her companions preceded her and exited the carriage, one after the other. The vehicle swayed every time one of them descended and the steps creaked dangerously. As soon as all the men were outside, Taryn moved to the cloth seat and put her hands on the edge of the door, hoisting herself to get out. As soon as she wa

"The Sunauras were majestic creatures and managed to defeat and seal the power of the Ucrie. They confined him, but made a small sacrifice. They also had to confine the power of all other men, they bound it to the lives of those who later became the Old Men. As long as at least one of them remained alive, that power would never be released. Left alone and defenseless, Werod had to deal only with the Sunaura. A face-to-face confrontation, but despite the great power they had, they could not defeat him. When they were almost completely annihilated, the Sunaura combined their powers and one of them collected them to defeat him definitively, creating their own Bringan. The elected used all the power in his body to seal Werod.""Seal?" asked Taryn, confused."Killing Werod was impossible, so the Chosen One simply sealed him along with all his demonic creatures," Elhias explained."But not the Ucrie.""The Ucrie were now powerless and no longer posed a

"She was, before she became a priestess herself.""You really saw a Ucria," Taryn said in disarray."They're not three-headed monsters, Taryn. They are human beings like us," Elhias said with a laugh."Didn't you ever think it could be dangerous? Could she be a spy?""The Docria trusted her blindly, if the ancient priestess can trust a Ucria, I don't see why I shouldn't too," Elhias replied, shrugging his shoulders, as if it were the most normal thing in the world."Do you realize that you trust others too much?" said Taryn in an exasperated tone."What can I do, I like to see the good in people," he replied, winking."What did the Ucria tell you?" Taryn"Bring Werod back to life?" asked Taryn surprised. "Werod is just a legend. A story to scare children.""Behind every story there is a kernel of truth, Your Majesty. For example, children are told the stories of great warriors with extraordinary magical powers and we ourselves are led to think of magic as a frivolity, as a story created just to entertain us when we were children, but the other day you saw what happened. You saw what you did."Taryn remembered the incident a few days earlier. That strange force that even now she felt circulating in her body and was doing everything to keep her at bay. It threatened to take over, to escape from her like an indomitable tiger trying to escape from the cage in which she had been locked for years."It was just an illusion, a coincidence. As soon as he opened the meat, a dark, thick liquid poured out of it, releasing a disgusting smell. Half of my stash started vomiting just with the smell." He inhaled deeply as if his nostrils were still filled with that smell, as if he could feel it even in the room. "The exterior was normal, but the interior was disgusting. The flesh was beginning to take on a black color and the organs were completely rancid, as if it had been dead for weeks. Not even the crows approached to feast." He shrugged his shoulders as if he had been struck with a shiver of disgust."That's not a good om

"Whether you like it or not, your troops are part of Haefest's army and coincidentally I am its commander, so you and your men answer to me," Doreon continued in an authoritarian tone.He had not moved an inch, he had maintained a relaxed position all the time, intimidating the lord in front of him."At least they were right to trust you," Pix said. Doreon looked at him, for a moment, confused. "My father and other lords had high expectations of you, mostly due to your ancestry, of course." Doreon continued to stare at him without uttering a word. "Did you think that the king had chosen you, a little boy, moreover the son of a man convicted of treason, as commander of the army because you know how to do some trick with the sword? Every choice is supported by the council and the lords and we, or rather some, have made your name, alluding to the fact that a young and fre
