Chapter 33

Taryn

The sun was still high and warm in the sky, even though it was late afternoon. As they approached Althea, the days got longer and hotter. Taryn looked at the men around her. Many could not stand the heat so they had taken off the leather chain mail remaining with a simple tunic of which they had rolled up the sleeves up to the elbows leaving the skin exposed to the sun's rays. In a short time the skin had turned red and with the passing of the days it had darkened.

Taryn now had red cheeks due to the strong sun, as well as the nose that was now beginning to lose the layer of dead and burned skin. She felt her whole face go on fire and did not dare to take off even a layer of clothes for fear of reddening everywhere.

Lord Taront, on the other hand, looked impeccable in his leather suit, even though his forehead was sweaty, while Lord Grander did nothing but snort from his cart and wipe his forehead with a silk handker
