“Reese surrendered himself to her.” Somen said, munching on some rabbits that had been prepared before Luthen came in.

Lyann was speechless.

“Why would he do that?” She asked.

“To buy us time.”

“You should have just killed everyone and left.”

“That’s the easy way out.” Kane said, speaking for the first time.

She looked at him and twisted her mouth. That statement seemed to trigger something in her. The moon shone brightly in the sky and the critter of the forest was audible.

“Look, I know you’re reluctant to come with us-” Luthen started

“You make it sound like I don’t have a choice.” She cut in.

Kane chuckled in scorn, then winced from the pain.

“Don’t mind him. How about this? You help us rescue them and it’s quits.”

“You leave me and my crew alone? No city authorities involved?”

“None.” Luthen promised.

“Fine. We’ll go in the morning. My men will stay here.”

Such a bother. he thought.Though Voyne had spared no expense in making his plane as comfortable as possible, the flight from Dryne to Osyna was a very long one and he was starting to get bored. Ordinarily, he would have taken the flight in smaller segments, stopping in different nations for tours or to visit his manic followers. But, he just could not delay the United Noble’s summons, not if he wanted everything to go according to plan.“How are we doing, Viven?” he asked while reclining on a chair, directing his question to a red cloaked figure with a seven pointed star on her chest. The eyes of the figure went unfocused, as if viewing another image. “We are right on schedule, sir.” She said after a minute. She took one worried look at him.“How are we going to convince them they are real? How do we prove that they are dangerous?”He smirked. Even though she had seen it before, it

CHAPTER TWO 2 days later Luthen woke with a dull throbbing headache. He actually expected it since he had played games late into the night. He only could do this because he had the day off today. He checked the time and discovered that he woke up late enough that breakfast should have been stone cold.If there’s any.Dressing up and getting downstairs, he discovered that his parents did not go to work today. Typical of the middle class to take leaves every now and then. Then again, in this world, there was little poverty in its truest sense. The poorest people had full bellies and just enough money to cover basic expenses like education and rent, though they did not have much holidays. He had it better. His parents fell into the upper middle class so they could take much longer leaves. He found his toast on the table, not as cold as he expected. He started munching with the morning’s breaking news on t

The trial had begun.“Your claim is the existence of beings called Shards. Do you have any evidence to support your claim?” Revner asked. His stress on the word ‘beings’ was sarcastic. Revner would rather believe a liar than this nonsense.“Exalted Nobles, I have to admit that I did not have any proof of my claim.”“So, you admit that you’ve spread lies to cause chaos?” Juggen said.“Like I said, I did not have any proof of my claim. Until this morning.”Voyne directed to a holographic screen. On it showed Luthen kneeling on the rubble amidst fires and bodies and roaring with red, dripping hands. Many Nobles averted their heads. Others clenched their fist in anger.“What is this? When did this happen?! Who did this?!!”Revner was enraged.I have your attention now. Voyne smirked. It started forming and swirling calmly and then violently till–“Null.” Kane said, easily dispersing the energy.“It is not so easy. Those docks had once been the city’s pride, however, they were now a meeting place for criminals and safe haven for smugglers. Even pirates came around here occasionally.Every person around here was focused only on the reason he/she was here. “You’re our guests.” A guard said in scorn as she shoved Jonelle and Reese into a small room. “Diplomats.” She added laughing, still in scorn before she resumed her post just outside of the room. The guard still remembered what was told to her a few minutes ago by the General.Don’t let them escape. That command carried an inherent threat in it.Reese, as well as Jonelle remembered also because they were there, bound. The room they were kept was the only thing to be thankful for in this mess. It was small, of course, but it had far more pleasures than your average prison, including a proper toilet, a bed and some aesthetic.“These mainland Shards couldn’t even identify the traitor in their ranks.” Reese said. He wasn’t angry, he was amused instead at how everything played out.“You should have gone with them.” Jonelle said.Reese turned to face her, sighing as he did so. He looked into her scowling face and replied “And leave you here by yourself?”“I would be fine. There was no point
