CHAPTER 16
ROLAND ATWOOD

Roland, a middle-aged man in his late forties, was a street food seller at the local subway.

He set up his business every evening to sell to the people who came for their different businesses at the subway and also to those who came to take the evening trains to their various destinations.

He was also homeless and spent his whole night on the subway while he sold his food all night.

In the mornings, he went over to the place where he bought the ingredients he would use for the evening.

Although Roland was also homeless, he had a small shelter somewhere in the town where he always rested.

Through selling the food by the roadside, he had been able to make something of himself, but he always acted very poorly.

Allen knew that very well, and whenever he asked Roland why he behaved that way, Roland always replied with. “ It is better to be regarded as a poor man than to be seen as a rich man”.

Although Allen never understood anything in that sentence, he always nodded
