CHAPTER 7

EFFECT OF THE SYSTEM

Allen walked away and made his way to his workplace

For the first time in a long while, Allen felt good about himself.

The very thought of having such an amount of money in his bank account was enough to make him happy for the rest of his life.

To top all of this, he still had a system that enabled him to fight injustice and crime and paid him after that

Within a period of less than thirty-six hours, a lot had happened, and it all felt like a dream to him. It was as though he was in some kind of fairy tale.

A whole lot of thoughts were going on in his mind as he made his way ahead.

“Does everyone have this kind of system that makes them strong and rich?

Or is it only me? Is it that all rich people have this kind of system?

Where do all these systems come from, and how did he choose me?

Why did it even choose me?.

How come I never had this thing before now? Does this system have consequences?” All these questions rummaged through Allen’s mind as he walked on the road.

Although some of the questions had been answered by the system before, Allen was not convinced about them and still needed clearer explanations, but he kept them to himself.

Then again, the reality of the fact that he was no longer going to be able to enjoy his scholarship hit him, and that changed his mood at once.

He was now sure he was never going to get into the university because of the admission acceptance letter he had lost to Jacob.

Although it was a sad moment for him, Allen worried no more.

He had now had enough strength to take revenge anytime he met Jacob and his boys like he had done today.

Again, he was getting money for fighting every day, and he was sure that the money was going to help him a lot.

Maybe he was going to be able to set up his own business and manage it and make sure it was running smoothly, and then he could go to school when he had his own money.

Allen walked for thirty minutes until he got to his workplace, right at the subway station.

His master, Mr. Roland, who preferred being called Roland, was already at work and was setting up the shed for the evening.

He greeted Roland politely.

Roland noticed the bandage on his shoulder and the bag in his hands with the pharmacy's logo on it and did not hesitate to ask.

“Did you get into a fight again?” Roland asked.

Allen nodded in the affirmative.

“You have been getting in trouble lately, what is the problem?” Roland asked him as he paused his work to face him.

“It was a fight with Jacob and his boys again. This time, I was able to fight back. Your training was useful. I won though, just that I got a blow on my shoulder,” Allen replied and feigned a smile.

Roland's eyes widened in disbelief.

“You won?” He asked as if he had not heard what Allen said.

Allen only nodded and set to work.

“What is really going on between you and those boys? You got into a fight just two days ago, and today you met him again. What is really happening?” Roland asked Allen.

Allen breathed in heavily.

“I don't really know. I just continue to feel it for losing my scholarship because of him, and even because of that, Jasmine has left me. I tried calling her yesterday, but it was obvious my number had been blocked.

I have not been myself for these two days.

On my way here, I saw him with three of his boys beating up a young guy.

I don't know what came over me, but I intervened and got into a fight with them.

Jacob himself is injured,” Allen explained.

Roland just listened without saying anything for a while.

“I think it's because of your earlier confrontation with them.

I understand you perfectly.

The sad aspect is that these boys go scot-free with everything they do because they have rich parents and families who help them out when they get into trouble.

You are aware of the condition of this city.

Nobody cares,  even the people who are supposed to protect us are working against us. You just have to be careful.

If you keep getting into a fight with Jacob and his men, they might get some more people to come after you, and they are going to make your stay in this city a terrible one. I bet you don't want that, because you can't bear it." Roland advised Allen.

“I understand, but sometimes it's hard.

You know I have been in the same school with them, and I have been bullied by them for the entire time.

They always get away with it, and it's always as if there is no help anywhere.

Something needs to be done about this.

The innocent people of the city are suffering every day because of people like him, and it's not fair.” Allen complained.

“I am sure you know better than that.

You know how the system works.

Even the city mayor has thugs who do such work for him.

This city is more or less like a lion's den.

You have to disguise yourself as a lion and behave like them in order to survive in the lion's den too

The drug peddlers are all working for the mayor.

The vigilante group and all those thugs work for him.

He has turned this place upside down for the benefit of himself and his rich friends and colleagues.

You have to tread with caution every time, especially when you are involved in a serious banter with them, they are not going to stop until they hurt or kill you,” Roland said.

“I know, right? I think I can still use a few of your skills if you keep teaching me. I will follow you home tomorrow for lessons,” Allen said.

Roland only nodded.

“Let's finish up quickly. The customers will start trooping in soon.” Roland said as he continued his work.

Allen nodded and continued.

He realized that Roland was making sense.

However, he believed that with the secret system he now had, nobody could defeat him in a fight anymore, especially if the system directed him for that particular fight.
