Chapter six: down to 95

Williams stood over Philips lifeless body, his chest rising and falling in exhaustion. But his eyes held a glimmer of hope, a flicker of compassion. But Williams had sustained too many injures during the fight and as a result he was bleeding out and was dying. So walked out of the battle ground, and slowly walked to his bed then he laid down and closed his eyes in death.

Everyone in the room gathered around Williams bedside as he was about to die. Many of them bursted out into tears, while the others blamed Philip for not ending the fight after Williams speared him the first time. Jake walked up to Williams bed side and said to him.

“You fought bravely mate, and you did what you had to do to save the lives of your team mates. Do not let the weight of the two people you kill burden you. Set you heart free as you go, you were a good man, and if we bloody make it alive, everyone would hear your name.”

Williams managed to give a weak smile, then he said to Jake.

“Thank you so much kid, I hope you make it out alive.” then he sighed with relief and said.

“And so it ends, my race is run. Williams regrets nothing, it was....fun”

Tears rolled down everyone's cheeks as Williams beath seized, then Jake closed Williams eyes, said a short prayer and walked back to his bed. Romeo noticed how said Jake was and then he walked up to him and said.

“You know, I will be facing off against someone else tomorrow and I barely know if I would win, or rather if I would want to win. I do not care about making it out of here alive. But you, you are a really good kid, and I will stay in this game as long as I can, so you and your friends would make it alive.”

“So you would give your life for me even though we just met in this place mate, that is really amazing, but I cannot let you do that. We all will survive this bloody game.” Jake replied.

“You know, I have seen five people die, right before me, And it left me wondering, who would create such a game and why? We are down to 95 people and I am not even sure if 10 people would make it out of this place.” Jake added.

“I have to find out who is behind this and stop him or her.” Jake said with a stern but trembling voice.

Then he the automated voice spoke.

“The next round will commence tomorrow between group A against group B. Group A would be allowed to choose another champion since your champion died after he won the battle.”

The following day came swiftly and everyone was getting ready for the fight. Romeo the fighter for group B picked a skit as his weapon while the new fighter of group A, whose name was Bradford, used the Axe Williams was using.

The two fighters entered into the arena, and took their stances, then the automated voice spoke.

“We have now reached the semi finals of the fighting section. Whoever wins this round goes to the finals and faces of against group E tomorrow. Round one fight!”

Immediately after the automated voice spoke the both contestants lunched at each other. Romeo and Bradford clashed with speed and ferocity, their weapons slicing through the air, their movements fueled by determination. Bradford, wielding Williams' axe, swung it with immense power, aiming to overpower Romeo and secure a swift victory.

Romeo, however, fought back with agility and strategic precision. He evaded Bradford's strikes, his skit whirling in intricate patterns, aiming for the gaps in his opponent's defense. Their battle intensified, each blow exchanged echoing through the arena.

Despite Romeo's best efforts, it became evident that Bradford possessed superior strength and skill. Blow after blow, Romeo found himself at a disadvantage. His body ached, bruises forming all over, but he refused to relent. Deep within him burned a fire, a refusal to let go of hope.

Punch!

Punch!

Punch!

Slice!

Slice!

Bradford's strikes landed with brutal force, sending Romeo stumbling backward. Blood trickled down his brow, his vision momentarily blurred. Yet, he pushed through the pain, drawing upon every ounce of willpower he possessed.

In a final, desperate attempt, Romeo unleashed a flurry of rapid strikes, testing the limits of his own endurance. One of his skit slashes managed to nick Bradford's arm, drawing blood. Encouraged by this small victory, Romeo pressed on, continuing to fight with relentless determination.

Their battle reached a crescendo of violence and skill. The crowd watched in awe as Romeo skillfully danced around Bradford's swings, executing counters and dodges with calculated precision. The atmosphere within the arena was electric, tension hanging thick in the air.

Seizing a brief moment of vulnerability, Romeo launched himself towards Bradford, aiming a decisive strike at his opponent's exposed side. The skit found its mark, sinking deep into Bradford's flesh. A gasp of pain escaped Bradford's lips as he dropped the axe, his strength faltering.

Romeo, fueled by a surge of adrenaline, pressed his advantage. He did not hesitate. In one swift motion, he withdrew the skit and struck again, targeting Bradford's heart. A moment of silence engulfed the arena as the lethal blow connected.

Bradford Collapsed to his knees, a look of disbelief etching across his face. Blood stained his shirt as his life force slowly drained away. Romeo stood over him, his own body weary and battered, yet a sense of triumph coursed through him.

The group members erupted into a mix of shock and awe. The unexpected victory of Romeo, as Bradford collapsed to the ground and his blood poured around him soaking his clothes in it.

Romeo walked out of the arena without looking back at Bradford, unlike Williams he felt nothing towards the death of Bradford. Romeo had been broken since the moment he woke up in the C.E.N.T.U.R.Y organisation, knowing his sick wife and his unborn child would probably be dead. As a result of this Romeo did not care about anything else than the lives of Jake, Sarah, and Matthew, theses were the only other people he cared about and he did not know why because he had just met them in the game.
