Ellis was a bit shocked by the information he just learnt. He never knew something like this was possible, yet he couldn’t deny that it was real because he had just seen Mr Cyrus’ hands glow. Even without that physical evidence, Mr Cyrus had taken him in and made him the heir, there was no reason why he would lie about something like this. Cultivation was something he had only thought was possible in books and movies, not in real life. But he would be stupid to pass up the opportunity to learn about it.
“I would like to get stronger, I don’t want to ever be a victim of bullying of any kind. But can you please explain more about this to me first?” Ellis asked and Mr Cyrus nodded.
“Only very few people in the world know about this and it’s kept secret for a reason which is to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. But even among those who know about it, only few can ever be able to access Qi and also harness it. It requires extreme focus and dedication. Some people take years before they are even able to wield the lowest level of Qi manipulation. But for some others, it doesn’t take that long. It took me six months to be able to access the lowest level and within another six months, I was able to advance. It’s been ten years since I started and now, I am a level six Mage. A little more than average but not powerful enough to get to the supreme Mage ten. No one has been able to access level ten in centuries.”
“Why? Ellis asked.
“It is extremely difficult and if you’re not careful, trying to get to that level could kill you. With each level advancement, your body must be able to contain the power that you channel. Most Mages never get past level five which is the average. And only one person has ever gotten to level Eight but he hasn’t been seen in decades, his name is Kai Khan. No one knows what happened to him and why he disappeared. Some say he was assassinated, but I highly doubt that. A level Eight Mage like him would be extremely hard to kill. Some say he was destroyed because the level Eight power was too much for him to handle. No one is sure of what happened.” Mr Cyrus said.
“But if only Kai Khan had been able to get to level Eight, then it means your power is strong even though it’s level six.”
“Yes, I am strong. Getting past level five is not an easy feat, then going further to advance one more level is a great achievement. I only know of nine people including me, who have managed to advance to level six and are still alive. And there are only five people that I know of in level seven. If you work hard, maybe you would be able to get to level six like me.”
“I want to learn, I want to be strong. I don’t just want to stop at level six, I want to advance higher than that.” Ellis said with a determined gaze.
“You’re not the first person with the plan to advance, but it’s easier said than done, trust me. Most give up along the way because of how difficult it is, while some lose their lives while trying to advance too fast. My advice to you is to take it slowly, be patient, and be consistent. No one has even gotten to level nine before despite their stubbornness. Level ten is Supreme Mage level. Since no one has ever advanced to that level, no one knows the power that comes with it. But it is rumoured that level ten unlocks a Cultivation System with advanced skills, quests and maybe even immortality. The possibilities are endless.”
“I know you mean well, but I’ve been at the bottom all my life. Thanks to you, I’ve had a chance to taste what it means to have power. I will never give up. I’ve come this far. It’s better to dream big from the beginning than to start with a small goal. I will be patient, but my goal is not level six, my goal is level ten.” Ellis said and Mr Cyrus smiled.
“I love your determination and I will support you through it all.Go and rest for now, your first lesson will start at dawn tomorrow before you leave for school. We’ll have lessons every morning till you can safely access level one. Remember to keep this to yourself. Not even my own biological children know of this, I told you because I trust you.”
“I appreciate all you’ve done for me, Mr Cyrus. And I promise never to let you down. I will make you proud with every breath in my body. You will never regret making me your son.” Ellis promised.
Meanwhile, in Jordan’s house, Jordan’s father was furious with him for getting expelled.
“You good for nothing child. How dare you?”
“I had to teach him a lesson, father. That bastard Ellis is…”
“Have you lost your mind? That boy you’re calling a bastard is now the Heir of the Royal family. Just one word from him to his father, Cyrus and he can destroy our whole family. How dare you play your stupid pranks on him?”
“You never had a problem with it before. Why are you so angry now? You’re among the school’s board of directors, none of you ever stopped us from bullying Ellis when he was poor. You’re being a hypocrite!.”
Jordan’s father slapped him so hard that the boy tumbled to the floor.
“Watch how to speak to me. I am your father!”
“You hit me.” Jordan said in shock. His father had never raised a hand on him before.
“And I will do it again if you dare talk back to me.” His father said.
Jordan turned to his mother, expecting help from her.
“Will you just stand there and let him assault me?” Jordan asked her and she scoffed.
“You’re lucky he only gave you a slap. You deserve worse. You still don’t seem to understand the mess you have put us in. And you even got yourself expelled for that matter. Why didn’t you just apologise when you were asked to?” She asked him with a scowl on her face.
“What’s the big deal? I will enrol in a different school. Royale College isn’t the only school in the country, is it?”
“Royale College may not be the only school, but it is the top school in the country. The best of the best. That is the best place for you to go to school and make connections. You need to start making allies now so when you take over my company, you can keep up the family legacy. No one will take you seriously in business if you don’t graduate from Royale College. Making the Royale family our enemies is extremely bad for business. Don’t you get it? Cyrus Royale can destroy the whole company with just one signature, he’s our biggest investor. And you dared bully his son, you fool.” His father yelled even more.
“Then revoke my expulsion so I can go back to school. You’re on the school board.” Jordan said.
“How can I do that without Mr Cyrus’ permission, he owns the school in case your empty brain has forgotten. If you had done this to any other student, I could have easily solved it. But with Ellis involved now that he’s the heir, I can’t do anything without risking Mr Cyrus’ wrath.”
“You have to fix the mess you made, Jordan.” His mother said.
“How am I supposed to do that? I’ve already been expelled. Am I supposed to crawl to Ellis and beg?”
“Yes. That is exactly what you will do.” His father said and nodded.
“Ellis is the only one who can help in this. Tomorrow, you must go back to school and beg for his forgiveness. Make him forgive you and revoke your expulsion. As the Royale Heir, the school also belongs to him so he has the power to do that.”
Jordan was shocked to his bones. How can they expect him to beg Ellis, ELLIS! The same person he called poor, wretched and a loser. Begging Ellis would be to downgrade himself. Never!
“I’m not going to do it. I don’t care who’s heir he is now. It’s all fake. Mr Cyrus will realise soon what a nuisance that boy is and toss him out to the trash where he belongs. I won’t beg him. I refuse.”
“If you don’t beg Ellis and make him revoke your expulsion, I will cut you off from the family. I will disown you and you won’t inherit a dime of my money.” His father said sternly. “So make your choice.”
“You wouldn’t dare. I am your only child. Who else will you give the company to? Do you want to destroy years of our generation’s legacy?” Jordan asked with a bewildered expression.
“I can do whatever I want. After all, Cyrus Royale has three children, yet, he gave his company to Ellis. I will follow in his footsteps and adopt a better son to give your inheritance if you don’t do as I say.”
“You would really disown your own son? You can’t be serious, father.” Jordan said in disbelief.
“I am very serious, Jordan. I am giving you an ultimatum. It’s either you obey me or you end up on the streets, you choose.”
Jordan was furious as he returned to his room that evening. His father had just given him a tough choice. He was literally caught between a rock and a hard place. He had to either apologise to Ellis, or risk losing his inheritance. How could he possibly stoop so low to apologise? He had never had to apologise for anything in his whole life because of his rich status. People apologise to him instead even when he was wrong. But if he didn’t apologise, he would be forced to become poor and his social and rich status would mean nothing. “AARGH!” He yelled as he tossed all the items on his bedside drawer to the ground, There was a clattering sound, and a glass bottle even broke but he still wasn’t satisfied. He wanted to cause more damage. He focused his anger on his bed next, ripping the sheets to shreds and destroying all the pillows. He broke his chairs and tore any book he could find out of anger. Then he left the house and drove around recklessly till he ended up at a bar and drank h
Jordan was shocked by Ellis' statement. How could he possibly kneel before someone he bullied for so long?"I'm leaving in two minutes so make up your mind before your time expires. I have more important things to do than wait for you here." Ellis said and checked the time on his new, ten million dollar wrist watch. The watch was even among the cheapest in his new collection. Most of his accessories had been gifts from Mr Cyrus. Jordan looked at the watch with awe because he had begged his own father for that same watch and his father had refused to buy him one. Now Ellis was just flaunting the watch just days after becoming a Royale. It was shocking to see Ellis in such an esteemed position. How could everything just change so suddenly?Jordan swallowed nervously and looked around the class. Everyone was staring at him, waiting to see what he would do. Some of them were taking videos and he tried to command them to stop recording. Before now when he was the boss of the school, they w
Mrs Adens was more than surprised to see her daughter come back home stained with mud. It was the dirtiest she had ever seen her daughter and it made her wonder why Emily was getting back from school like that. "Emily dear, why do you look so unkept?" She asked and rinsed her hands off the carrots that she had been dicing when Emily came in. Emily walked towards her slowly and came to a halt right in front of the kitchen. "Someone splashed mud on my body as he drove out from school." Emily said quite soberly. She didn’t want to admit the true situation, that someone she had thought was beneath her had returned even better and had rejected her so openly. "Mud?" Her mother's voice was a puzzled one. "Who would do that? And why Did you stand up to them?" "It was a classmate." Emily said again, but this time, she did not wait for her mother to speak. Instead, she walked into her room to change up. As Emily went up, her mother wondered which of her classmates would soil her clot
Ellis got home from school a bit tired that day. He needed to rest, but before that, he wanted to tell his father what had transpired between him and Jordan at school. He knew where his father was — at the study. He went up there to meet him. Mr Cyrus was very diligent with his work, so even when he didn’t regularly visit his office, he always worked from home to supervise the activities going on."Good afternoon." Ellis saluted his father. "Oh, Ellis! Welcome. How was school?" Mr Cyrus said, raising his face up from his laptop to look at Ellis."I'm fine, dad. How are you? You seem like you’ve been working for a while. You need to rest more.""I'm fine as well. And don’t worry about me, my boy, I’ll rest when I’m dead. Did you have any trouble today? I hope no one is bothering you." Ellis sighed and smiled. "Well, today, I made Jordan apologise to me and everyone he has bullied in the school. It was fun to watch."Mr Cyrus listened with sheer interest in what his son was saying. "
George hesitated a little before speaking up. His hesitation irritated his father and puzzled Ellis. Why was he delaying instead of just making his request? It must be something really bad."I want to speak to you in private, father. Send your street rat out of here." George finally mumbled."You can speak. You have my attention. Though I may just decide to have you thrown out instead for calling my son a street rat." Mr Cyrus said with a frown on his face.George wondered if his father did not understand what the word, ‘private’ meant. His father made no move to send Ellis out and was still telling him to speak? What sort of thing was that?"I want to speak to you alone, father. Did you not understand what I said." George responded, giving Ellis a disapproving look. "I understood you loud and clear, and I said I am listening.""What the fuck, dad? Do you want me to spell it out? I want to speak to you alone, in the absence of Ellis. Send him away. This is a private matter. I don’t w
George stood up again and began pacing back and forth in his father's spacious study, his Italian leather shoes clicking sharply against the marble floors. He loosened his Armani tie in frustration as his father, Mr Cyrus, sat stoically behind his desk, unmoved by his son's impassioned pleas."Dad, I think you need to reconsider the idea of this marriage," George said, running his hands through his expertly arranged hair. "You know as well as I that Lisa is completely unsuitable to be my wife. She won’t bring a good image to the family. Look at my sister’s husband, he was a businessman before she married him, yet, you never approved of her choice."Mr Cyrus arched his eyebrow. "Unsuitable? You should have thought of that when you were busy with her in the bedroom. My disapproval of your sister’s husband is for reasons best known to me. At this point, I no longer have high expectations of you, so marrying your Lisa won’t impact the image of this family in any way. The marriage will be
Ellis shrugged casually. "I said, if you refuse to do your duty and marry the girl, I believe you should surrender your inheritance. It’s only fair. We can use it as compensation for when the stock price of the company plummets by the time your scandal leaks."George barked out a caustic laugh. "My inheritance? Since when did you become an expert on legacy and responsibility?"Ellis gave an exaggerated sigh. "Father has spent decades sacrificing for this business. Building it from the ground up takes integrity, respect for others, and accountable leadership. If you lack those qualities because you can't deal with an accidental pregnancy, frankly you don't deserve an inheritance from the empire he created."George clenched his fists, his father's presence the only thing stopping him from throttling the impertinent whelp."Integrity? This coming from you?" He spat. "Please don't make me puke. You, a non-entity that was picked up from the slum? You want to talk? What the fuck do you know
George stormed down the marble corridor, his shoes clicking sharply in time with his racing pulse. Rage like he had never known before burned through him. How dare his father dismiss him so quickly? Nobody was above mistakes, so they had no right to berate him for his own shortcomings. He refused to acknowledge the fact that he had caused a lot of problems over the years, he didn’t want to admit any fault or blame to himself. He wanted to continue playing the victim when the fact was that their words hurt more because they were speaking the truth. Still, he wasn’t ready to become a father. Reaching an imposing set of double doors, he threw them open without ceremony."Marcus. Amira." he called out, bursting into the stately sitting room on the first floor. This was the part of the house where they usually spent time after dinner. His elder siblings glanced up in surprise from their adjacent antique divans, where they had been quietly sitting. "My goodness George, what's got you in s
