Medical Breakthrough

The smell of antiseptic lingered heavily in the air, mixing with the ever-present scent of fear that seemed to permeate the medical bay. I could see it in the hollow stares of the survivors who milled around the infirmary, their faces pale and eyes haunted. They knew that once infection took hold, there was nothing to do but wait for the inevitable. A slow descent, ending in a transformation into something unrecognisable—a monster.
