It was Louise’s birthday party, everyone was trooping into the Golden Inn. The DJ gave palatable songs and everyone danced.
“Hello, everyone!” the master of ceremony (MC) said.
“Hello, sir!” the crowd chorused.
“Permit me to welcome some special guests and the cream of society to the high table. A round of applause for them as they come forward,” MC said.
“Okay…, the crowd chorused exuberantly.
The MC called out the special guests; as they found their way to the high table, the crowd clapped and honored them.
“So, we are not special to Louise?” Alfred said. He was sitting among the crowd and close to Gilbert.
“We are more special. You know everyone’s name can’t be mentioned,” Gilbert said.
“My apologies to some dignitaries, I omitted their names. Permit me to welcome Mr. Alfred and Mr. Gilbert. A round of applause for them as they come forward,” MC said, and the duo joined the personalities at the high table.
“You should have been patient, you know,” Gilbert said.
“You are right. I was only being jealous and nothing more,” Alfred said.
“You need to be careful these days,” Gilbert said, and the duo laughed.
“I can see Magdalene over there!” Alfred said with gestures.
“Really?” Gilbert said.
“Yes. I need to have some conversations with her now,” Alfred said.
“That should be later. Let’s enjoy the party first,” Gilbert said.
“I can’t exercise such patience; I will be right back,” Alfred said and walked away.
“Alfred is just bent on winning this lady’s heart. Well, I wish him success in his endeavor,” Gilbert thought, and sipped his wine.
“Hello, Magdalene,” Alfred said from behind.
“Hi, Alfred. You also came to the party?” Magdalene said.
“Yes, Louise is a very good friend. And you, do you know Louise?” Alfred said.
“Actually, I don’t know him well. A friend of mine invited me,” Magdalene said.
“Okay. Could you please meet me outside?” Alfred said.
“Alright…,” Magdalene said and the two walked out.
“Magdalene, my love,” Alfred said.
“What’s going on?” Magdalene said.
“I have loved you ever since I set my eyes on you. You are such a beautiful queen,” Alfred said.
“I love you too,” Magdalene said with a smile.
“Wow!” Really?” Alfred said.
“Yeah,” Magdalene said.
“I am euphoria. Can you be my wife?” Alfred said while he knelt down.
“I can’t accept this proposal, you are a married man,” Magdalene said.
“Married, you say?” Alfred said and stood up.
“Yes. What of Helena?” Magdalene said.
“Helena is a nefarious person and I regret marrying her. I can divorce her for your sake,” Alfred said.
“Divorce?! Don’t do this. We haven’t entered a relationship and you want me to be your wife? That’s unheard!” Magdalene said.
“We can start a relationship now, I don’t mind,” Alfred said.
“Alfred, my marriage is coming up next week. I want to go now,” Magdalene said.
“Marriage?” Alfred said.
“Yeah,” Magdalene said.
“I am not aware,” Alfred lied.
“I doubt it. Your wife Helena knows about it, she was at my house in the afternoon,” Magdalene said.
“Please, look into what I said; I love you wholeheartedly,” Alfred said.
“I don’t have disdain for you either, but I am already engaged with my lover boy,” Magdalene said.
“And who is this lover boy?” Alfred said.
“Here he comes!” “Lover boy, could you please introduce yourself to this cute gentleman?” Magdalene said, cuddling round Willy as he coincidentally appeared on the scene.
“Hello, Alfred,” Willy said with a shake.
“I am fine. How are you?” Alfred said.
“I am fine. Magdalene, what is going on here? I have been waiting for you indoors since,” Willy said.
“I am sorry, lover boy. Do you know each other?” Magdalene said anxiously.
“Yes, we do; Alfred is my good friend,” Willy said.
“Your good friend? And you have never disclosed that to me for once,” Magdalene said.
“Don’t mind him, he is a prodigal friend. I can’t remember the last time I saw him,” Alfred said.
“I have been engaged, pal. Magdalene, meet my man, Alfred. He is witty and multitalented,” Willy said.
“I’m aware already, Alfred is just a friend too,” Magdalene said.
“Then, Alfred is a friend of friends,” Willy said, and the trio laughed.
“Without further altercations, I think we have to go and join the party now, it’s getting darker out here and you know I have an allergy to darkness,” Magdalene said, and gazed at the entrance door of the inn.
“There we go!” Willy said and the trio sauntered to the inn.
“It’s a great privilege to call out the celebrant now, in the person of Mr. Louise; a round of applause for him as he saunters forward. All the well wishers can come out to display their wealth too,” MC said.
As Mr. Louise danced, well-wishers displayed their wealth. Suddenly, three masked men entered the inn.
“Everyone, go down on your knees!!” Charles, the group’s head, said with a rather confident voice.
The crowd became agitated. They quickly knelt down, and were grasping for breath. It was now as if the inn was gradually losing its initial restful state. A cowardice of a man took to his heels. Charles and the other masked men could see the man running out of the inn.
“Get that man down!!” Charles said.
Jeremy ran after the man, he released two bullets from his gun and killed the man. The man fell on the ground, Charles left the corpse and walked back into the inn. When he entered the inn, he could see fear written on the crowd’s faces.
“Boss, we need to execute our mission very fast before midnight sets in,” Jeremy said.
“We are up to the task, Jeremy; and where is the celebrant?” Charles said and gazed at the perturbed faces of the people kneeling down. The people, out of fear of being killed, kept quiet.
Dickson glared at the crowd. “Are you all deaf?” he said and gunned down the MC.
“Ahhhhhhhh!!!” the crowd said with a quavering voice and in unison.
“Are you insane?” “You are getting on my back” “Who is the celebrant?” Charles said.
“I am the celebrant,” Gilbert said and stood up.
“Bravo!! It’s lovely…,” Charles said, and moved closer to Gilbert.
“Young man, do you know one professor McPherson?” Charles said.
“I don’t think I know anyone who bears that name,” Gilbert said with enough confidence.
“Young man, don’t play with our intelligence,” Jeremy said from behind.
“Jeremy, leave him alone, I will teach him some lessons now,” Charles said, and used the bottom of his gun to hit Gilbert’s head; blood started oozing out.
“Armed man, see what you have done,” Gilbert said. He stretched out his left hand to slap Charles, but he was gunned down.
Charles glared at who had just killed Gilbert. “Why did you kill him?” he said.
“He is very rude; I am sorry, boss,” Dickson said.
“You should have at least exercised a little patience,” Charles said.
“Forgive him, boss,” Jeremy said.
“You people don’t have work. This criminal called Louise stole something unique and here you are celebrating his birthday. You are all foolhardy,” Charles said, and hit Gilbert’s remains with his foot.
“Fuck them all, people of low calibers,” Jeremy said and spat.
“Master, let’s go,” Dickson said.
“There we go!” Charles said, and the trio moved out of the inn.
As soon as the armed men left the inn, everyone stood up, all swimming in their sweat. Alfred moved to Gilbert’s remains.
“My intimate person and friend…, rise up; your time is not up,” Alfred said with a teary voice holding the corpse’s head.
Alfred tried to resuscitate Gilbert but he couldn’t. He cried bitterly that all the witnesses formed a colony round him and consoled him.
“Accept our condolences, Alfred,” everyone’s mouthpiece, James said.
“How I wish the United States of America and her States were developed. How I wish I had magical powers to raise my friend back to life. I am deeply disappointed in our government,” Alfred cried out.
“I am sorry for what I caused you, boss man. You claimed you were me. I feel guilty about your death now. I wish death could take me too. Life without you would be boring,” Louise said in the pool of his tears.
“We are all guilty. The reverse would have been the case if only we had security too. The United States of America needs to turn a new leaf!” Jeff said.
“Let’s go and bury our dead. Everyone should gather at the king’s palace tomorrow,” Gates said.
Soon, an ambulance took Gilbert, MC and Mosley’s remains to the mortuary.
Louise’s birthday party that was planned to be a remarkable day, ended on a bad note and earned a black day instead!

He was in his regalia and holding his staff of office. He stepped on the exalted ground and faced the crowd. “I am deeply sorry for the death of three noble men from this kingdom. From the outset, our country and her States were known to be restful. All of a sudden, we are faced with crises and wars, killings everywhere. We have placated the Lord of the Water to make our land peaceful again, but it has not yielded any positive result. Gilbert is a lion’s heart, but unfortunately, he has passed on. We need a savior!” King Rehoboth addressed the mob. “Yes, we do!!” the crowd said. “Do we still have brave men? We need a company of strong-hearted men, we need the braves to maneuver these eyesores,” King Rehoboth said. “I am Alfred and every

Sarah was feeding her one-year-old son, Oliver, in the sitting room. “Is anyone at home?...” Alfred said. “Yeah. Do come in, the door is unlocked,” Sarah said after recognizing Alfred’s voice. Alfred opened the door and the duo walked into Sarah’s sitting room. “How are you doing, Sarah?” Alfred said. “I am fine. Please, sit down. Mrs. Helena, you look sad; what’s wrong?” Sarah said. “Me?! I am not sad; it’s just a tiring day,” Helena said. “Alright…, but I still doubt it. Mr. Alfred, it’s been a while,” Sarah said. “You can say that again. How are you coping with the kids? Alfred said. “I thank God; we are sustained,” Sarah said. “Good to hear, and where is Liam?” Alfred said. “Liam? He is in his room. Liam! Liam!” Sarah said. “Yes, mum!!” Liam said f

There is time for planting and there is time for harvesting. There is also a time for birthing and a time for dying. I pray we shall sow good seeds with good rewards in Jesus’ name,” priest Grayson said. “Amen!!” the witnesses chorused. “Now, let’s sing the first hymn; my hope is built on nothing more than Jesus’ love and righteousness,” priest Grayson said. However, the witnesses sang the hymn, sang elegy songs and more words of enjoinment and exhortations followed afterwards. “When a man dies, his soul goes up to be judged. I beseech you, brethren, to make Christ the mainstay of your life. God is a never failing kind of Lord. Now, the underta

The birds’ voices were not heard, the leaves were not falling off the trees; so, everywhere remained silent. “It is a privilege we have today to gather beside this river. However, the reason why we are gathered here today is not new to us all, is it?” King Rehoboth said. “No, king Rehoboth,” the crowd said. “Dear Lord of the Water, the custodian of the powers of the water; we seek your help once more. Some lion-hearted men are about to go on an adventure to the half moon; we want you to make them arrive there safely and bring them to the earth safely too. Great Lord of the Water, the archaic one, we wish to see your face once more,” king Rehoboth said, and the Lord of the Water came out from the river after splashes. “Great one!!!” the crowd said with joy. “My lovely people, I have heard your heart’s desires, I have heard your p

Sarah brought out some dehydrated food and everyone ate. They slept off afterwards. “Hi, everyone! It’s time to wake up,” Alfred said. “Is it day already?” Smith said sleepily. “Do you think we are on planet Earth? We are still in the day here, which is about 168 hours; so, we have long hours to go before the night sets in,” Alfred said. “You mean 168 hours for just a day?” Raphael said, surprised. “Yes, I read that in a documentary,” Alfred said. “I think we have to move

We have never been rude to you, or do you need us to do that?” Logan said. “Logan, I didn’t come for you. Little brat!
