The night was still young, but that didn't slow down the brewing occultic activities that had already begun. More than half of the humans loitering the streets by this time were all occultic men and women who were out looking for potential prey. The real deal always begun during midnight or the very early hours of the morning. This is when they finally slaughter the preys that they have managed to get a hold on and offer their organs as sacrifice to Whatever it was they worshipped.
Bornville reeked of evil and almost every morning, mutilated and mangled bodies showed up on the streets. This was something that was done in secrecy before, but because of the ever rising occultic activities, it had become normal to dump corpses on the streets and not get reprimanded despite leaving enough evidence. The Anti-Quinns couldn't do anything about these occultic activities, they weren't authorized to take any sort of action against them. Their only duty was to make sure that they sent any evil spirit back to hell. They had no business in fighting against occultic activities, and with their number it was way safer and better to keep away from a fight they had no chance of winning. They drove past the almost filled streets ignoring all the curses those they disturbed rained on them as they drove past. It was best to mind one's business in this type of situation. They already had the Quinns after them, making more enemies would simply be overkill. The two boys alighted from the vehicle before Marcelo drove the car into the garage. They both stood outside waiting for the next instruction, but Marcelo simply walked past them without uttering a single word. If they didn't know what they were meant to do, then they might as well sleep outside tonight.Rebecca was already up when he reached his bedroom. She was asleep when he left and even though he feared that she might try something stupid in his absence, Sebastian's safety came first before hers. She walked down from the bed while holding the blanket tight to her chest to cover her nakedness. He turned away to give her some privacy while at the same time relieving himself of his shoes and excess clothing. His mind was stuck on more important things other than Rebecca's nakedness, but he still chose to be a gentleman. He had some questions to ask Sebastian, but he would do that after dinner. He wanted to make sure some certain conditions were in place before he could attempt making any move towards capturing the Angel of death. It was a shame animals didn't have souls. This made it exceptionally difficult for him to achieve his goal, since no normal human being would be willing to risk their life for such an experiment. The chances of survival where eighty to twenty. Which meant that death was almost guaranteed for anybody who was to embark on such a journey. He had faith in himself that he could be able to change those odds. As long as the grim reaper was a spirit, he could be bound. The only issue was being strong enough to perform this task. For one to be able to bind a spirit, you have to be stronger than the spirit. And the strength requirements wasn't only physical strength. Mental and spiritual stability were key factors to consider when trying to capture higher spirits, if one was lacking in any of these aspects, then the binding was sure to fail and the spirit would be triumphant. In situations whereby the spirit was an evil spirit, it could possess the binder or in some cases, kill the binder. However, he was confident that nothing would happen to him even if he failed. Death was impartial. It would never harm or even touch him unless it was his time to go. The only problem was the person he would be experimenting with. If he failed, then the person was sure to die. It was a gamble and the stake was a humans life. He couldn't afford to lose, he won't lose."Sebastian" Marcelo called after they had finished with their meals. He had kept his eyes on the stranger all night long and could notice some sort of relationship building up between him and Sebastian. It wasn't a strong one, but it was still a bond. However he wasn't calling Sebastian for reprimanding, he was calling the boy to tell him of his plans. He had told Rebecca about it and she had been partially against it. Her words didn't have much impact when it came to this issue though, he just wanted to hear what she had to say, and she had disappointed him.She hadn't realized that if this worked, then the Killers of her brother would finally be brought down. Her thirst for justice and vengeance was just poor and he didn't like it one bit.Sebastian excused himself from Michael before heading towards his master. He didn't know what he had done this time around, but he managed to keep a calm face as walked towards the man. He kinda feared the man, but he loved being close to him at the same time. He loved his relationship with his master and honestly didn't want anything more than this."Sir?" Sebastian replied the instant he neared the man's location."Stop the formality" Marcelo ordered. He had told the boy to address him as sir whenever they were at work, but aside from that he would prefer being referred to with his name. He wouldn't also mind if the boy called him father. "Michael, tell me what you know about him"Sebastian was a bit surprised with his master's words. He thought that the only reason he had brought him here was to get rid of his curse. His master wasn't the type that would suddenly take interest in strangers, it was kinda weird. But at the same time, there was the possibility that he just wanted to know something about the being that would be spending a night in his house. The information he was about to relay was crucial no matter how much he thought about it.He spilled all he knew about Michael to Marcelo who listened with utmost seriousness. The man paid attention to every word that came out of his mouth and the seriousness and attentiveness scared him a little. His master was always serious all the time, but this was bit extreme."So he doesn't have a family? He survives from pickpocketing and that's how he got his curse?" Marcelo inquired despite hearing all these a minute earlier. He wanted to make sure he wasn't taking someone's only hope into death's den. The boy fitted every category he was looking for. He was someone who had already abandoned life, and according to Sebastian's words, he was ready to die at any time and wasn't even concerned about it. He was the perfect candidate..Sebastian nodded in affirmation to his master's question. something was up and he could feel it. He had overheard Marcelo talking with Rebecca moments ago, and from the looks of things they seemed to be in a disagreement about something. He hadn't really given it much thought then, because Rebecca and Marcelo never really had the same vision about anything. They were the exact opposite of each other. The only thing they had in common was being members of the Anti-Quinns, but even that didn't go smoothly either. He was beginning to think that the disagreement was about Michael. Maybe Rebecca was against him staying here, and he couldn't really blame her. He had heard about her brother, and bringing an absolute stranger into the house on the same day could be really frightening."Is anything the matter Marcelo?" Sebastian questioned, doing his best to sound as calm and polite as ever.Marcelo took his eyes off the carpet and focused them on Sebastian's. He had been lost for a moment, but Sebastian's question had brought him back to reality. He had been pondering over going through with this and had finally found his resolve."I want to capture the grim reaper"'Grim reaper? As in death?' Sebastian questioned himself mentally. What exactly was his master getting at. He wasn't planning on using Michael as a lab rat, was he? 'No, he couldn't. He wouldn't dare' He tried to convince himself. He knew this man was capable of things he wasn't yet aware of, but gambling on someone's life in a game he couldn't possibly win was just sheer ruthlessness. It was unthinkable."I don't understand Marcelo. You want to capture death?" Sebastian asked just for clarification. The sentence still sounded strange to him, and he would need to hear it one more time for it to really sink in. "You heard me Sebastian. I won't repeat myself" Marcelo replied with a flat tone. "You said the curse was supposed to last for three days right?" Marcelo inquired despite knowing the answers already. "Yes" Sebastian confirmed while nodding at the same time. "Which means that by midnight he would die" Marcelo deciphered. He had to make preparations if he really wanted this t
"why did you agree to it?" Sebastian asked, his tone almost as cold and emotionless as Marcelo's. He was being dead serious now, and wanted Michael to see how serious he was. Michael couldn't find the right answer to give him. He knew Sebastian already knew the answer to his question, but he couldn't bring himself to say them to the boy. They had just met few hours ago but it felt like they've known each other for ages. He understood the boy was looking out for him, but if giving up his life could potentially save a whole lot of innocent others, then he would readily give up it without a second thought. His entire life had been one misfortune after another, and trouble seemed to follow him. He had lost his parents at the age of seven, and soon after that his younger brother. They were poor and had lived off of scraps for as long as he could remember. His father had committed suicide when he couldn't accept reality anymore, and his mother had disappeared the next day without a trace
Sebastian couldn't bring himself to sleep at all. His mind kept wandering and it taunted him. He was scared, and at the same time trying to convince himself to trust in his master. He had never for once in his life seen his master fail to exorcise any spirit or demon, both higher and lesser one. There was no one who rivaled him when it came to exorcism. But yet his confidence and trust in the man this time around was zero no matter how hard he tried. This was death they were talking about. It wasn't any ordinary Demon or spirit, death was something way beyond human scope, and trying to capture sounded like something a five year old would suggest. He turned to his clock and watched the time as it slowly changed minute after minute. Midnight was just a stroke away, and once it struck two things would happen; Michael would die or Marcelo would capture death. Even though it sounded like a fairytale, he assumed it was possible since it was Marcelo who was attempting it. If it was any othe
Francis drove carelessly through the dark roads without care of both himself or the night dwellers. Marcelo's assistant had just phoned him minutes ago saying that his master needed help, and he would do anything to help Marcelo including laying down his life. Marcelo had saved him from the curse of one of his deceased patients after he had failed a surgery, and since then he had followed in the man's footsteps offering him every help he could. He owed the man his life, and would easily lay it down for him.He was just about to call the man almost the same time that Sebastian called. Something weird had happened at the hospital and he guessed the only person that could explain such unnatural phenomenon was Marcelo. It was just for a minute, but it was completely odd and unusual. Hundreds of patients whom had been confirmed dead, had suddenly regained consiousness for just a minute, and those who had been considered lost at the moment had miraculously returned back to life. The long d
Sebastian woke up not feeling as bright as he normally used to. It had been a week now since Oliver and Michael's passing, and their funeral has been scheduled to hold later in the evening. Rebecca had spent the past week with them and it hadn't been the most exciting week. Ever since the Michael incident, Marcelo had gone cold and rarely spoke to anyone. The only time he spoke to the man was whenever they were on duty, and he wasn't allowed to have discussions that weren't related to the work at hand. Today was different though, Marcelo had left home the previous night and hadn't returned. He and Rebecca knew he had gone for a late night exorcism, but he should have returned before noon. He had switched off his phone and by doing so shut all means of communication. He knew the man was okay, but not seeing him home made him a bit uncomfortable.Rebecca had had enough of Marcelo and had left the house after waiting tirelessly for the man's return. She knew that Marcelo was trying to
Sebastian stood his ground with the others even though his knees were already weak. He couldn't show how powerless he was compared to them, else they would find a reason to kick him out and shame Marcelo. "It's Okay to be afraid, all of us are" A voice comforted him from behind. He swung his head around and laid eyes on one of his favorite members of the organization. Jerome Canvas, one of the Canvas brothers and the eldest of the triplets. They were probably the nicest people in the group and were the only ones he was comfortable with. The man's words had strengthened him a bit, but all the energy had once again been drained the instant their ambushers began appearing. He had expected one strong demon, but instead an army had showed up. They were in a burial ground, and the evil that emnated from the main Demon had corrupted the lesser spirits present in the place and they had become an army. He could tell that nobody was prepared for this and that if this pushed on, they would e
Marcelo had decided to take a little time to reorientate himself about his goals. His focus was dwindling, and he was beginning to loose sight of who he was. He was getting weaker, and his last exorcism had proven that beyond doubts. He had struggled against a demon that wasn't near the power of the strongest he had faced before. His loss against death had taken a serious toll on his mental and physical health, and they weren't things he would easily recover from. His emotions were getting in the way of everything he did and it had greatly affected his productivity. It wasn't his first time loosing a fight, but this felt much more painful than any of his loses. He barely lost and when he did, his opponents often considered their victory irrelevant. But this time around he had lost two consecutive battles in just a minute. He had lost against death, and also to the Quinns. He had misused a once in a lifetime opportunity and an innocent boy had paid the price with his life. The guilt
At the last second, Marcelo was able to get his emotions under control. This would not go like his last two battles. Those ones had the odds stacked against him. Fortunately, fate seemed to be smiling on him for once. If there was anything Marcelo knew he was good at, it was exorcizing demons. In a flash, he pulled out the bottle of holy water he always carried. Loosening the cap slightly, he tossed it directly towards the encirclement. It had the result of throwing a grenade at a bunch at people. The demons hissed and growled loudly as they immediately retreated from the sizzling liquid that splashed around. Seizing his opportunity, Sebastian immediately grabbed the bottle and emptied it around himself in a circle after which he began to pray unceasingly, which further agitated the vile creatures. "Hey you bastards!" Marcelo called out before they could refocus on the boy. Holy water was good and all, but this was not a normal possession case. These things were sent, like a small
