Chapter 5: Sacred Water

CHAPTER 5

Edgar stood stunned at his words, he wondered what being could not be killed even the witches could be burned to their death, then he realized why Earl did not hide who he was because he knew he could not be killed. The witches knew better than to tell except they had intentions of killing him. At least he was safe with this man.

"Who are you?" Edger asked as he walked behind Earl who was on the move.

"You should read a lot more Prince Edgar your history must have mentioned my kind," he paused. "They did not scrap my kind off your history?" He asked genuinely concerned.

"What does it matter? There are many creatures in our history."

"With what you saw at the battlefield you should have an idea." He looked at Edgar's eyes searching for answers. His eyes were intimidating and Edgar understood why he dared to look him in the eyes, he could not complain either way. "I have heard of beings with similar descriptions but they do not exist. It is just a fairytale."

Earl chuckled expecting his denial of his kind. It was safer and easier to think that they never existed but sooner Edgar would realize he was saved by one indeed. He said nothing and kept walking while Edgar kept up with his pace.

"I am curious to know one thing though."

"What?"

"You do not appear so moved finding out about me. If it were your father he would have gone straight for the sword in a stupid attempt to end my life."

"I did think of it but I am not my father and do not want to be like him. I am not sure I can kill one who saved my life."

"That explains it then. Pray you do not turn out to be like him when you become King someday." Edgar remained silent still walking behind him, he thought about it often and wished power never made him turn into his father once he had it. The more the king had the more he wanted. It was his desire to be the greatest and most feared king and that he was, having a full celestial daughter who brought good fortune and a half celestial son who was blessed with outstanding strength and skills. They walked in silence while Edgar went through his thoughts. He knew what Earl could be but he found it hard to believe.

How could this man possibly be a human demon?

He thought, his sword essence, his flaming eyes, swift movement, out of this worlds swords skill and his unbelievable beauty which had him shocked to his feet, he was said to be the finest in the kingdom but rather someone shared the title with him and he was a human Demon. His features matched what he had read at the royal library but it was hard to believe he was seeing one already.

Demons were said to be spirit beings but history had it that there were human ones who walked the earth in human form without taking possession of another human's body. The spirit demons only took the form of humans when they found an empty vessel who they could dwell in and operate through. Sometimes possibly take control of such bodies after the end of a bargain.

The spirit demons were know to be wicked and tormented human existence forcing them to seek solutions from dark powers which they were Lords over and when they offered them solutions, they asked for their bodies in return after a period of their existence on Earth but unknown to those humans these demons were indeed the cause of their trouble and when they came to them for solutions all the demon had to do was stop his torment and the fight against the persons blessing and things starts working out well for them while they believe they had received a solution from the demons.

The human demons had their human side which could draw them to goodness and their spirit side which drew them to darkness a war they had to fight to chose what aspect should have more dominion. Earl was one of those who choose good over his darkside and only unleashed his spirit demon when there was need to. He had been able to master taming his darkside over many years and it was a journey through hell.

Edgar's thoughts were paused as they got to a river, he watched Earl who seemed to be getting ready to take his clothes off. He took a quick turn as Earl took off his shirts sharply.

"Wait." He said stopping Earl while his back was still turned against him.

"No you cannot have your bath while I am in there." Earl warned.

"You mentioned the water I drank had something to do with me passing out back there "

"I did?" Earl asked pretending not to remember, he continued stripping off his clothes leaving only an inner pant covering his lower half.

"Yes."

"So what about it?"

"Did it also have something to do with you falling asleep so quickly?"

"You guessed right." He said before making a heavy splash as he dived into the water, he came up soon sliding his wet hair to the back.

"What kind of water is it then?"

"It's sacred water." He said moving his hands in the water. Edgar turned slowly now to face him.

"Sacred water?" He muttered. How did you get it?"

"I did not." He smiled at Edgar watching his confused gaze. "It was used to heal you."

Edgar's lips parted in shock, that was the reason all his wounds had healed without a trace and why he felt as though he had not gone to battle at all but then he had never heard of sacred water and if it existed the royal house would have known of it. Then he realized it could be something belonging to another creature.

"Then who did?"

"The physician." Earl said and went back deep into the water. Edgar was stunned at this revelation, who was this physician and where was the sacred water gotten from? He knew Gilbert was known to be the best physician in the entire kingdom but even he, could not cure so perfectly.

Back to the tarvarn, Edgar and Earl stood facing each other while the soldiers who came along with the prince stood some distance away from them as they talked.

"You must have seen the royal letter pasted everywhere." Edgar spoke quietly to Earl who was busy sliding his hair to the back.

"Even the rats have seen it."

"Earl!" He said almost scolding, he wasn't ready for Earl's game of dodging words.

Earl moved closer to him taking a glimpse of the soldiers who were attententively looking the other side. He knew their ears were on them though their body were paces away. " I know why you are here and I will not help you, why? Because I cannot." He whispered to Edgar.

"I do not believe that Earl, you know you can be of help, you helped me once this time I am talking about the princess, my sister."

"She is obviously under a spell no physician can cure that. It is obviously a trap by your father to catch some witches and believe me they are wiser than that."

"My father would not trade with her life like that and I found her myself in the woods. She was indeed taken and I am asking you not as a prince ... But as a friend to help me."

"I believe you but sorry to disappiont your highness, I cannot help you. The witch who cast a spell on her is the only one to get her out of it."

" What about the sacred water, maybe it can do something about this." He said desperately, Earl paused taking a step back.

"You will find no solution with me Edgar. The sacred water only heals physical wounds."

"There must be some other way, you must know something else, I do not believe you are being completely honest with me Earl. Do you want more gold is that it? I will give you as many as you want just help me out." He said almost scolding again. Earl looked at him furious. He hated the fact he thought he needed to be bribed to help him out.

"Leave." He said folding his fist as he tried to surpress his anger.

"And tell the king what? I came all the way here for nothing. No." Earl ignored him and turned away to leave, he felt Edgar's strong grip on his arms and he responded quickly with a hard elbow punch on his nose. The soldiers go after him seeing that Edgar had been attacked and his nose bleeding but Earl warned with a simple look in his eyes, that threatened to bring death if they came any further. Edgar staggard his way up and signaled to the soldiers to step aside which they did. He wiped off his nose bleed and regained his stance.

Earl walked passed him throwing him a mean stare. He went straight to where he had left his horse and soon he came out on its back.

Hyah!

He kicked the horse and the men made way for it's passage. Edgar sighed watching him as he rode off.

Landon, Edgar's trusted man runs up to him. "Are you alright your highness?"

"Yes, no need to worry."

"You let him leave and he does not seem to want to help."

"Let him be, I pushed my words too far."

"Still you are the prince "

"For once I will let it pass." He said smiling. Landon didn't know why they had to ride this far just to meet a commoner but he could feel a different energy he radiated and it felt strange but he wouldn't question the prince about his decision to save his sister. He followed the gaze of the prince as it went in the direction where Earl had passed through.

"He is my only chance at saving the princess." He said knowing Earl wasn't completely honest with him and it pinched him to know why and what he was hiding
