Chapter IX: Saving Light

Geordan who is at the mercy of a group of vampires that ambushed him on his way to Faulterth is at death’s doorstep again as he is being by two of the vampires and heavily wounded due to the one that is on his backside. He kept trying on breaking free from the vampires’ grasp on him but due his condition, there’s no luck as those two surpasses his own strength as they combine their super-human grip on him.

“It’s useless to resist, human. Now, we will see if you are the one that we are looking for,” said by the vampire who pounced him earlier as it tries get close to him as it walks towards him. The vampire grins as it shows its white-sharp fangs like he was trying to take a taste of Geordan’s blood.

It is no use! I cannot break free from them. They are too strong!” said by Geordan to himself as the vampire already within his face.

“Let’s see if you are the Radiant One,” said by the vampire before it took a bite on Geordan’s neck.

SNAP!” the sound of the vampire fangs as it carves deep into Geordan’s flesh. The vampire then sips through his blood and after sipping enough of his blood, the vampire was a bit disgusted and spitted some drop of blood on the ground.

“Ptui! Agh! It’s repulsive! This is the first time I’ve hated the taste of blood!” said by the vampire after tasting Geordan’s blood. The other vampires looked at each other and seems to agree upon something.

“Hmph… According to the master, the person whose blood taste foul is most likely the bearer of the God of Creation’s radiance,” said by the vampire holding the right arm of Geordan.

“Heh! It seems your fortunate to live enough until the master decides what to do with you! Gaah! The taste won’t go away in my mouth! Ptui!” said by the vampire who bit Geordan’s neck. As for Geordan, he barely has enough strength to speak as he keeps his remaining strength at maintaining his consciousness.

“Hahaha, still have the guts to stare back at me? Don’t make me for a fool!” said by the vampire that bit him as it punches him to the stomach.

“Aaaaghhh!” screamed by Geordan as the vampire’s fist did a major impact on his stomach. Geordan falls down to his knees and wheezes due the beating he sustained, the vampires then dragged him off to be taken to their “master.”

“We must return to the master at once before those blasted meddlers track us here---” said by the vampire leading but as soon as he finished his statement, a shining arrow flew straight right between his eyes.

THUCK!” as the arrow pierced through his head killing the vampire instantly. As the other vampire saw their kin dissipates into dust, they quickly form their formation; the two prepares for combat while the other one carried Geordan and prepares some kind of a spell to flee.

“Inga!” shouted by a deep-voiced man who seems to be the source of the arrow earlier that killed the first vampire.

“It’s them! Greaaaghhh! Attack!” said by one of the vampires at front as they charged in to the man who killed their comrade.

“Grrr! I’ll leave this to you two,” said by the fleeing vampire but as soon he finished his spell, an armored person came charging at him, outfitted with a steel plate armor with some gold-lining etched with an insignia that depicts a sun and it rays along the center of it and on its both spaulders.

“Yaaaah! You are not getting anywhere!” said by the armored person with a voice of a rough woman. She savagely swings her battle-axe with her two hands at the fleeing vampire but luckily, he managed to evade it by an inch as the spell he casted was an invisibility spell.

“Dang it! Where did it go?! Joss, find him!” yelled by the armored woman to the young man who is following her at the back.

“Haaa… Wait… H-Here I come,” said by the young man who started enchanting the staff his holding. He cast a light-spell that burst within radius of his position, as the invisible vampire appeared again a few meters away the armored woman and was blinded by the flash of light.

“Now! Save the man on its clutches!” said by the young man who casted the light-spell. The armored woman then charges at the vampire as she took another wild swing with her battle-axe while the vampire dropped Geordan to the ground and leaves his charge to escape but it is too late as the reach of the woman’s axe slashes his rear side.

“Aaagghhh!” screamed by the vampire as the axe that cleave him is no ordinary one but a silver-forged axe that makes it more effective against its kind. The vampire rolls down on the ground and into bushes off the road, the wound he received from the armored woman’s silver axe burned his flesh as he continues to cry out in pain.

“Joss, tend to that man there. I’ll finish this one off,” said by the woman to the young man whose name is Joss.

“Understood, Crusader Inga,” replied by Joss as he approaches Geordan and tend to him. The armored woman whose name is Inga rushes towards the vampire while the vampire managed to stand leaning towards a nearby tree still hurting from his wounds.

“G-Grrrrr! Do you think you can stop us with just a few of you? You filthy Dawn-bringers!?” said by the vampire before he meets the end in Inga’s hands.

“Hah! Still arrogant despite your condition, eh? We may be few in numbers but we are enough to exterminate you all!” yelled by Inga as she delivers the killing blow, cleaving the vampire’s head.

“Aaaaggghhh!” screamed by the vampire as turned into dust.

“Well, that does it. How’s our friend there, Joss?” said by Inga as she lowers her battle-axe looking at Joss and Geordan. Thanks to the healing magic provided by Joss, Geordan finally regains his consciousness as he opens his eyes taking a look at his saviors. He then managed to stand on his own but fell shortly as Joss catches his shoulder.

“Whoa, easy there, ser. You still haven’t recovered much of your strength yet. Don’t push yourself too much,” said by Joss as he explains Geordan’s condition. He may be able to move but the vampire’s bite on him drain his strength while the wound he sustained from his back still has some lingering pain.

“Aaggh… M-My thanks, to you two,” said by Geordan as he struggles standing and relies on Joss for support. The two rescuers’ nods at him as they make their way out.

“Quickly, Joss! You go find a safe place while I go meet up with Thorac,” said by Inga as she raised her weapon out. Joss carried Geordan out of the woods where the mist is thin, he places him near a large aged tree near a clearing of the woods they were in earlier.

“Lay down there. I’ll put a ward around here make sure they won’t detect you easily,” said by Joss as his palm releases a ball of light that circles around him then towards

Geordan.

Prospicientes Lucem!” as Joss chants the spell on Geordan. He then examined Geordan’s wound as it somehow stopped bleeding because of aid he did earlier.

“Alright, it seems you are in no immediate danger. Let me just seal your wound first. By the way, my name is Joss Manning. I belong to the order known as the Dawn-bringers. Who are you?” said Joss as he introduced himself.

“G-Geordan. Geordan Auroran…” replied by Geordan as he catches his breath.

Meanwhile the two vampire attackers are still fighting the other “Dawn-bringer” who seems to be in a bind as he fights them at the same time.

“Graaagghh! You will pay for your life, human!” said by one of the vampires as it furiously charges at the lone Dawn-bringer.

Hmph… Fool,” thoughts of the Dawn-bringer as he clenches on his hand-axe. He then was able to parry the vampire’s claws but its aggressive attempt to hack him again with its other claw made the Dawn-bringer back away to avoid it.

Gelidus Mortiferum” chants by the other vampire as it sends a pale-looking ice shard that is as long and large as a longsword at the Dawn-bringer. “Dieeeee!” added by the vampire as launches it, but suddenly, Inga appeared as she hacks the ice-shard coming at the Dawn-bringer.

“Look out!” she said as cleaves the ice using her silver battle-axe.

“My thanks there, sister,” said by the Dawn-bringer. Now that Inga is here, they can finally deal with the two vampires.

“By the Gods, Thorac! How are you holding up here?” said by Inga to the Dawn-bringer goes by the name of Thorac.

“I’m just fine. Didn’t expect they would come at me like rabid hounds,” jest by Thorac as he brings out another hand-axe behind him. “Now, we purge them!” he said as he prepares to attack and Inga following his lead…
