70. This Is Me Now

"Your first mission is complete. How do you feel? Do you feel more human now?"

The voice echoed and sounded distant to me, but I couldn't see anything or anyone speaking.

"You finished it quite quickly. Well, I intentionally chose a conflict that wasn't too heavy. Now, you'll journey to the second world. Congratulations, Joe!" The voice exclaimed, accompanied by applause around me.

"Solace?" Surprisingly, my voice sounded hoarse and squeaky, as if something was hindering me from speaking freely. Yet, I still felt floating in this darkness.

"I can't show my face, Joe. I've just returned from a treatment after visiting someone in a very polluted and grimy place," he explained.

I couldn't feel my hands or any other body parts, but I wasn't panicked. "Is it another failed person?" I asked.

"Exactly, he's very miserable and has experienced a lot of trauma. But, as a good being, I gave him a chance just like I gave you!" Solace exclaimed joyfully, and I could imagine his old face beaming.
