Inside the mighty hall, Adrian was welcomed to a noble world he had never before witnessed in his humble life. If he thought that the valentine party organized by Ricardo was a thing of beauty, then he was wrong. Every single thing around him spoke of class and honour, wealth and plenty.

The people, a crown upon it all. They were important dignitaries whose face any ordinary man would only see behind the screens of a television and never behold in real life. Yet Adrian was right there among them, and he was no different. As much as he admired the riches around, he could catch the stare of the high class ladies as they focused on him. Maybe it was his suit, glowing in beauty, that attracted them. Or maybe it was his modified features. At this rate, he didn't have to look for Lyana. She would notice him herself, as did every other lady.

Regardless of it all, Adrian knew he had come here for a purpose, and he needed to stay on track. He had to focus.

Ricardo stormed into the party, looking for the loser Adrian Blood. David Williams hurried after him, he could not miss the downfall of the person who humiliated him. But Teresa pulled him back in a haste."What is it?" He screamed at her at first. Then he regained his cool, remembering that she was the reason he was still standing around."What is it?" He asked again, politely."It's about Adrian..." She whispered."And what about that foolish jerk?" David was still eager to follow Ricardo before he vanished out of sight."I think we were wrong about him." She expressed her fears. "I think he is actually the son of a wealthy person..."David smirked, what a joke. "Of course, he is not. He is just some random dude who has nothing but his big head and a scholarship which he is about to lose.""No!" Teresa was quite serious. "Right in front of me, he made a one million dollar payment to the school board."David searched her face, there was nothing that suggested a joke. Teresa only cont

The solemn music continued, low in volume, and a background theme to the drama underneath the roof of the event. "Someone get this bloody scum out of here!" Ricardo Rodriguez ordered, commanding the men around. He really wanted to hit Adrian so bad, but he couldn't engage in more violence in the presence of everyone around. The guests were already staring at him. They were his father's guests, and Ricardo did not want to piss off his father just because of this nobody, but when James Halton stood in his way, he lost all reason to hold back."What the fuck are you doing?" He hissed at Halton, raging. "Who do you think you are to stand in my way. You're just an assistant!""You don't want to do this." That was the only thing James Halton said. Ricardo scoffed in annoyance. He had always disliked James Halton even though he had been a loyal servant to the Rodriguez family. James Halton was indeed loyal, but not to Ricardo. Only to his father and to his sister. James Halton had always he

If only Lewis had done his job right, then this dinner would not be taking place in the first instance. If Lyana had died on that sickbed, if she had burnt to ashes in that explosion, then the road would be all set for the next Chairman of all Rodriguez establishments, Ricardo."You had a simple job, Lewis. He could not risk anyone finding out that he was the one who tried to kill his sister two or three different times. The car accident that occured months ago was no accident. It was arranged by Ricardo himself to get rid of Lyana. She was supposed to die in the accident, but somehow she lived into a coma. For months, Lewis added a slow poison to her medications. Every eye around the table focused on Adrian Blood, resonating a deafening silence."Are you crazy? How can you disrespect the chairman's daughter like that?" One man said."Who the hell do you think you are?" Said another associate."Chairman, give me the chance to teach this fool a lesson he will never forget."Their words had no impact. Adrian still had a smile on his face, as if he had just asked for the most normal thing in the world. Everyone thought he was crazy, or perhaps he was joking. These rich men were just so ungrateful. Whenever they did an ordinary man a favour, they would make them repay them for the rest of their lives, serving to enrich the greedy rich masters and fill their pockets. But now that Adrian had done the Rodriguez family a huge favour and he had stated his prize, their ego was so big that they grunted like wounded lions, feeling disrespected.Adrian ignored the angry associates and faced Federico again, not minding the tension around him."I understand h

As the associates exchanged pleasantries and salutations with the prestigious Astana family, Adrian asked questions."What is so special about them?" He uttered out of curiosity, unknowingly, then he saw Lyana's suprised stare. Everyone had gone to welcome the Astanas except her. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to disrespect your family friends."But Lyana only smiled. "No, it is okay. I don't like them either. My father is only fond of Chairman Astana because of how far they have come together. Hosting them like this is the best gift anyone can give him.""Are they a part of the inner circle?" Adrian knew this was his chance. He couldn't miss it for the world. What followed was a suprise look from Lyana. "Of course they are. They are the joint most important members of the inner circles besides my family." She seemed really proud about it that Adrian wondered why she didn't bother joining the pleasantries."Why aren't you with them?" He asked."My father's obsession with the Astanas is s

There was a round of applause in the entire hall as Lyana walked out to deliver her speech. She took the microphone and stared across the hall, holding all her emotions together. Her anger, her fury, her rage and her regrets. When her eyes meet with her father's, she saw him telling her somehow not to let her emotions get to her. The Astanas were finally here, the Rodriguez needed desperately an alliance with them. Earlier this night, before the dinner, Federico had told his daughter. "There is a war coming, Lyana. Whomever has unlocked the Salpinx, they will stand against our family. If we stand with the Astanas, then there is better chance for us."Lyana's eyes left her father's, removing his words from her head. She stared at Adrian Blood, the man who had literally popped out of nowhere and saved her twice. The man who seemed ordinary at first, but at the same time seemed very mysterious. The man who dared to challenge Luther Astana's authority. Adrian's eyes were telling her to go

"Many years ago, when I was still a child, the richest man in the world was a man named Sebastian Waters. He was a friend to my father and Martin Astana. Among the three friends, he was the most successful. He had more wealth than his two friends combined, but he did not live long. He died at a young age, leaving his friends in despair". Lyana narrated the story the way she knew it. Adrian listened, dancing with her."How did he die?" He asked. If his father used to be the richest man, then he would have all the world's medical geniuses at his beck and call. He couldn't just die easily."I don't know." She said. "Some say he was depressed.""Depressed?""He had issues with family. I do not know the details, but I think it had to do with his wife. Father would never tell me, it pains him anytime he talked about Chairman Waters."Adrian engulfed the information slowly. Did this mean his father and mother had always had issues before his father's death? If so, it didn't explain why she l

In the dry suburbs, right along the end of the country, the poor villagers hastened their pace in fear. These men who were dressed in black suits were not friendly, their very appearance in the village meant danger.Anytime they showed up like that, it was either because a rich man somewhere had sent them to take the properties of a poor man and take care of him if he tried to oppose or fight them, or they were sent to destroy the belongings of someone who had offended a big boss.
