CHAPTER 26

The air in the room seemed to get cooler with each passing second. Chris could not believe that Mr. Bolton would be able to deny him outrightly in his presence, but it was happening right before his eyes.

"Father?" Chris muttered. "You said it yourself that I am your son. I'm the one you have been searching for all these years."

"The only reason you're still standing before me is because you know what you stand to gain as my son," Mr. Bolton sneered. "If I was as poor as a church rat, you wouldn't even want to associate yourself with me."

"How can you say such a thing, father?" Chris sighed.

"For the last time, I am not your father," Mr. Bolton repeated. "I have enough evidence to back that. You should be thankful that I still offered you a job and protection, Chris. It's the least I can do for you, even after your claims threatened to soil my great legacy."
