Arthur was shaken. He couldn't believe he was the one being threatened by a mere guard. "Wh - what do you mean?" He stammered. "You look like you saw a ghost," The guard said and chuckled. "Now, no more questions till we get to the boss' room. In a matter of minutes, they were there finally. Thomas Bolton's room was located at the top floor of the mansion and Arthur knew very well why he had chosen to have his room there - it would be hardest for his enemies to break through all layers of security before getting to the top floor, and even if they found a way through, he would be long gone through a secret passage way before they did. The guard knocked twice on the door and Thomas grunted from within. "Come in, will you?" He pushed the door open and they walked in together. Thomas smiled at the sight of Arthur and the guard frowned, realizing that Arthur was a friend to his boss. "I brought him in one piece just like you asked," The guard said. "Although it was tempting."
Arthur walked through the gardens alone. It was evening time and he was pondering upon everything that he had discussed with Thomas. "There's only one way to get your life back, Arthur, and it is to murder Chris Bolton." The words played on in his head continuously and when he couldn't take it anymore, he screamed and threw a punch at a flower vase. The vase fell on the floor and shattered into pieces, alerting the presence of the few guards and maids he had left. "Sir, are you okay?" His maid asked. There was a look of concern on the poor woman's face, but Arthur couldn't care more. "Fuck off!" He screamed, causing the maid to jolt back in shock and fall to the floor. Almost immediately, he turned on his heels and walked back to his house. His phone was ringing on the center table when he got in and staring at it, he saw that it was an unfamiliar number that was calling. It was probably one of his debtors. Arthur sighed and sank to the sofa. He was slowly losing his mind an
It had been a week after Chris' unprecedented attack on his uncle, Thomas, and from the details of the situation that he had gotten from his informant, Michael realized that his son had come of age. This was the perfect time to hand over, fully to him, what was rightfully his by birth. Michael wanted his son to grow up differently. He wanted Chris to be the regular CEO of one of the biggest establishments in the world and not an underground crime Lord like he was. That was why he needed to start planning the hand over ceremony early. He didn't want his son dabbling into businesses that didn't concern him and Thomas Bolton was one of them. Michael heaved a deep sigh and after long consideration, he dialed the last person in the world that he ever thought he would be asking for help - Chris' friend, Richard. A phone call was not convincing enough and Richard agreed to meet him in his office in thirty minutes. Michael needed his help, in planning and organizing the surprise party for
The D-Day came sooner than anticipated. After days of endless preparations, the time had finally come for Michael to step back and allow his son handle everything. A part of him was skeptical about leaving all his businesses in Chris' care, but he knew that it was a step in the right direction. If he didn't do that, Chris was going get further involved in the wrong business, in deals that didn't concern him, and that was going to lead to his end."You don't need to look so grumpy about it," Richard chipped in casually and placed an arm across Michael's shoulders. "As a friend, I'm telling you that what you've done is for the best. Chris is totally going to kill the role of CEO."Michael stared at the young man standing beside him with disgust evident in his eyes and slowly, he removed Richard's hand from his shoulder."First and foremost, we're not friends," Michael started."Fair enough," Richard shrugged. "Business partners then?""Not at all," Michael frowned. "I reached out to you
Richard stared at his friend as he brought out the revolver. Who did he think he was? John Wick?"You can't be lucky everyday, Chris," Richard grunted. "And you've been on a row for a while with the luck thing. I have a bad feeling about this.""If you think you can convince me to leave my father to die, then you're wasting your time," Chris replied before starting towards the building.Richard sighed as he watched his friend make his way into the building and then, he followed him.The ground floor was pin drop silent. There was not a single soul there, and Chris immediately figured that Thomas had held them captive at the top floor of the building where the meeting was probably supposed to hold.Without a second thought, Chris doubled towards the stairs and started his ascent, two steps at a time. If there was one thing he had learnt from the action movies he watched, it was that the bad guys always used the elevators. He couldn't risk getting killed by one of them before he met tha
After his announcement, Michael Bolton didn't spend much time at the party, he stayed around for a while, spoke to some of the board members and investors present, then returned home. With the kind of life he once lived, parties were surprisingly not his favourite scene. His secretary Mrs. Yvonne, also left with him.Back at the party, Chris stood in a corner and observed the scene, feeling weirdly alone in a party which was supposedly thrown in his honour. He watched the workers in their little social circles and could feel their not so subtle stolen glances and gazes, he could see them whisper among themselves."Probably talking about my perceived incompetence," he thought quietly to himself. He so badly wanted to be with Rose or Monica, but their excessively uptight nature had made them choose duty over pleasure and they were probably stationed somewhere, fulfilling their duties as his bodyguards. The thought made him scowl. "Can I be made to understand why the new CEO, or shall
Richard leaned in and returned Chris' stare with equal intensity. The tension in the air was palpable. In the blink of an eye, Richard stood up and stormed off, leaving the others, save Chris, surprised. Monica let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding and slumped into the booth next to Chris. Rose stared after Richard for a while, then slid into the booth next to Sarah. They all remained silent for a while until Sarah cleared her throat and spoke up."You know you sort of broke our agreement right?" She asked and nudged her head at Chris. "No secrets, remember?"Chris opened his mouth to say something but decided against it and remained quiet."But I'll let it slide. Is that all you know about him?" Sarah asked."Currently, yes. I haven't been able to find out anything more about him because every other lead has led to a dead end." Chris said and let out a sigh."Alright. Chances are he'll disappear out of your life after such a confrontation but, let's try and keep a
Thomas Bolton stayed silent and continued to look at his adopted son like he was a stranger. Richard in return tried his best too look at anywhere and anything else but him. "Leave me." Thomas said after a very long silence. "But father_" Richard started but stopped when Thomas slowly took a finger, placed it on his lip and breathed through his lips in a shush. "Careful how you use that word boy. You might be my son on paper but never fail to remember who you really are." Thomas said, stood to his feet and walked up to him. "An incapable bastard, who can't even make himself useful to his savior to show his gratitude," He whispered in his ear, with his palm on his shoulder. "Now, leave me while I figure out our next move to cover for your incapability" he said and walked away from him.Richard gritted his teeth really hard, till it felt like they would crack and with his fist clenched tight, he turned and walked away. He walked out, looked around at the guards and stormed off
