“Sir, this way, quick!” one of the guard captains alerted Alex who was still very confused and trying to grasp the situation. Just a moment ago, he was celebrating the anniversary of his arrival to this world in the banquet hall together with his vassals. As he was trying to catch a fresh air in the balcony, he witnessed this hellish scene.
“Guard, what happened here? Are we having a fire drill or something? But boy, it sure is a realistic one,” asked Alex nonchalantly, still trying to refuse the fact that his kingdom was under attack.
“As you can see, Sir! Out of nowhere, the demon horde suddenly flooded the east gate! Our reports stated that a magical portal was spotted!” replied the guards in a panic state. “To make matters worse, our surveillance guard witnessed the soldiers of Maleo Kingdom marching towards our direction! Judging from their stance, I’m afraid they are hostile!”
Before Alex was about to respond, a young man with golden hair and a slightly hunched man joined them in the balcony.
“There you are, King Alex. I wondered where you were,” said Horat calmly, as if unaffected by the turmoil of the situation. Hector who stood beside him just smiled slyly.
“Good thing you two come at the right time! I need your assistance to organize the troops and evacuate the civilians!” ordered Alex.
“My, what if we refuse?” giggled Hector showing his crooked teeth.
“Oi Hector, this is no time for your bad jokes!” remarked Alex furiously.
“No, Alex. You are the joke!” roared a thunderous voice coming above them. Alex knew that voice too well. That voice was not supposed to be here.
“Samael!? But I already slain you!” Alex couldn’t believe his eyes. The Demon Lord which he vanquished 2 years ago was standing in front of him.
“You had no idea what we were scheming while you were intoxicated by your fake victory,” replied a caped man who seemed just arrived there. “Don’t you find it strange that your party members met their end one by one with not that much interval?”
“King Daendels! But the Maleo troops are still far away from here!” gasped the guard captain. “Unless you joined hands with those accursed demons- “
“And what if he does?” responded Samael while swiping away the life out of the poor guard captain with his black claws. “Thanks to him, I was revived, though not fully yet. But tonight marks the start of my new reign of terror!”
“Hey, give us some credit, will you? It was us who lured the members of party who fought against you and offered their souls. King Daendels was just there to give finishing touch!”
“Worry not about the small details,” calmed Daendels. “Let’s wrap things up with this pesky pest. An outsider like him was never fit from the beginning to be dubbed as this world’s saviour.”
As he finished his sentence, Daendels walked toward Alex and stabbed him. Alex was supposed to be able to evade, but his body felt sluggish.
“Looks like the poison we slipped into his wine works wonders,” cheered Hector. “See, it was always us who did the grunt job, but Daendels always stole the spotlight!”
Daendels was unfazed by that remark. He proceeded to lift Alex’s head and showed him the pandemonium which wreaked havoc Nousant Kingdom.
“See for yourself how fleeting your so-called achievement is! All of those things you built, destroyed in a night like this!” taunted Daendels. “How does it feel to be cornered down by the betrayal of your trustworthy subject?”
Alex was too weak to talk back. He prayed silently at the very least his queen, Remina, and his children, could escape to safety.
“Cat got your tongue? Or perhaps you were looking for your wife? It is okay, she is still alive, just a little bit broken after I had some fun with her. The brats were annoying though, so I had to separate their heads from their bodies,” smirked Daendels.
Anger rushed up to Alex’s head, but alas his body wouldn’t even move an inch. The poison was too effective and his gaping wound didn’t help.
“Since I’m a kind man, I would send you to them so your children won’t be that lonely,” taunted Daendels further. “But I’m afraid the queen will need to wait a little bit longer. I am no communist, but I always share with my people. Especially my used ones.”
“I hope you don’t mind if we enjoy her first,” said Hector while dragging Horat’s arm. “Come on Horat, I know you always had a glance of Remina’s voluptuous body.”
The two of them hurriedly left inside. Alex cursed his powerlessness at this crucial moment. He couldn’t even resist when Daendels lifted the blade toward his neck, about to behead him.
As his consciousness faded away, Alex’s life flashed before him. He still remembered the moment when he was summoned to this world. Out of the blue, the late king ordered him to defeat the Demon Lord who was threatening Nousant Kingdom. Before he knew it, he already set on his journey together with the party members assigned by the king. Through countless battles, Alex successfully fulfilled his mission, amidst the casualties received.
Upon his arrival back to the kingdom, he received a numerous number of rewards. Beside that, the king even arranged Alex’s marriage with the princess. After the king passed away, Alex succeeded him as the new king.
The Nousant Kingdom flourished during his era. Everything went smoothly, too smoothly even. As he was enjoying the moment, he delegated most, if not all, the government matters to Horat and Hector. Little did he know that both of them were against the idea of him ruling over the Nousant Kingdom. It was them who assassinated Alex’s party members one by one, in order to resurrect the Demon Lord. At the same time, they also orchestrated the execution of individuals who sniffed their vile intentions. All for the sake of covering up their master plan to overthrow Alex from the throne.
Suddenly Alex found himself in a luminous room. He was familiar with this place. He quickly called out to the master of this space.
“Goddess Sureya, if I am in this room, it means you are also here!” shouted Alex. “Please help me out! My wife, my children, my people, my kingdom, they need me!”
A golden light swirled in front of him and manifested into a figure of a beautiful goddess with pale skin. As always, she smiled at Alex.
“Alex, my child. At long last, we finally meet again,” welcomed Sureya with a soothing tone. “I reckon your last journey didn’t end very well.”
“Yes, Goddess Sureya. Your blessing helped me a lot to fulfil my mission to slay the Demon Lord. You have my deepest gratitude. But now once again, I need your help to revive me and send me back so I can avenge the people dear to me!” explained Alex.
“Vengeance is not a very pleasant thing to do, Alex,” answered Sureya. “But you know what they say, prevention is better than cure.”
“Of course, Goddess! I am well aware of that, but I am not currently sick at the moment!” interrupted Alex.
“Hot-headed and impatient like always, aren’t you?” chuckled Sureya lightly. “You will see what I mean after a quick rest. Now close your eyes, my dear Alex. You already had too much. Pain and fatigue will leave your body after a night or two."
Sureya casted a spell and a bluish light enveloped Alex’s body. All of a sudden, he felt so sleepy and before he knew it, he already slept like a baby.
Alex never slept that deep before. The tension which suffocated his body had gone now, replaced by serene sensation. His body felt so light as if he could float away at any moment. In the middle of that blissful state, he reminisced his past before he found himself in Nousant Kingdom. He was just a thirty-something years old nobody, with dead-end job and stuck doing things he was not fond of. His wife left him for his boss who always yelled at him, making him questioned his life. As he was lost in thought, a truck hit the old motorcycle he was riding and before he knew it, he was already surrounded by medieval-looking people.“Man, it would be nice if those things happen again, even if it’s just a dream…” mumbled Alex.It seemed Alex was able to conduct lucid dream, because when he opened his eyes, he saw exactly the scenery which he wanted to watch. The great hall of Nousant Kingdom, King Romeus on his throne, accompanied by his daughter Princess Remina. It was so real that Alex coul
“There, now be a good boy and behave!” scolded Helene lightly after she successfully pulled Alex far enough from the hall. “While waiting for the king’s mood to be better, why don’t you have a stroll around? But please, come back before dark. We have a feast coming up. Hopefully you could reconsider your decision by that time.”Alex looked around. Everybody left already as soon as they left the hall. Seemed like everybody was preoccupied with their own agenda.“Yeah, I think I will do that,” agreed Alex, his steps taking him outside the palace.Just after walking through the castle gate, he was welcomed by the bustling atmosphere of the capital. Tough-looking guys lining up in front of the guild, drunkards yelled at each other even though it was still too early to be drunk, old ladies bargained the greens as if their lives depended on it, all was so refreshing. It was hard for Alex to accept the fact that this lively scenery was destroyed in one night by his nemesis.Across the space
“Follow me!” commanded Alex leading the way. “This is the shortest route to the village!”Everybody was confused. Why did their appointed leader act like he was already familiar with the topography of this place, even though he was just summoned in this world less than a day ago.“Salieri, cast Prisa on us! We got no time to lose!” ordered Alex without a pause.“Si, Senor! Wait, how did you know my move?” Salieri looked baffled. Nevertheless, he obeyed Alex’s order and played his violin to buff the party, causing them to move faster. “I haven’t told you I’m a Bard!”“Yeah, come to think of it, you guys never gave me a proper introduction,” said Alex. “We will do that on the battlefield later.”It didn’t take long for the party to reach the village. The flames engulfed the village, but judging from the damages, the demons hadn’t been rampaging for long. Alex was relieved to see the course of history had slightly changed.“Alright everyone, listen up! Civilians are our number one priori
Even before the sun rose, Alex had been standing alone on the middle of the village. He looked around only to find nobody came yet.“Damn, if they knew what I know, surely they wouldn’t be lenient like this,” Alex grumbled. While waiting for the villagers, Alex looked around and saw the remnants of the fallen demons. On his first journey, he was too late in learning that he could use them to power up his equipment. That was one of various factors which made him struggling along the way and suffer significant casualties. But this time it would be different. Using that as a lesson, he was determined to give himself a head start. The roosters started to crow as the villagers started to show up. They were still at a loss of what to do, judging from their empty expressions.“Morning! Though you guys are a bit late, I will overlook that for now! First thing first, feed yourselves! Nothing can be done on empty stomach!” ordered Alex. When the villagers finished cooking and started eating, Al
The next morning started with a brighter mood. The village looked cleaner than previous day thanks to the villagers who worked hard despite being clueless of what Alex was going to do to them. After they had their breakfast, they marched toward the meeting point. There, they see Alex and his peers were already on their place.“Morning, fellas! I see you’ve been doing a terrific job in executing my commands,” praised Alex. “For that, you have my deepest gratitude. For today, I would like you guys to prepare yourselves in case the demons attacked again.”“But the demons had been expelled already…” responded one of the villagers. He looked like he was in charge of the people there. “I don’t think they will come again anytime soon.”“True, but that was only because me and the gang were around,” replied Alex, countering the chief’s argument. “We are heroes of justice, but you people are not the only ones who need us. We can’t be here forever. It’s about time to stand up for your own good.”
It was exactly a week since the training regime started. Alex evaluated the situation and decided the time had come for another safety measures.“Folks, you surprised even me with your stunning growth! At this rate, you won’t need anyone’s protection anymore!” acknowledged Alex. “I guess you lot are ready for the next in our plan!”“Before, apart from meals and occasional rests, your days were filled with nothing but scheduled training. From now on, everyone will train only for half a day!” declared Alex, followed by the hoorays of the people who thought their exhausting days were behind them.“Another half of the day will be utilized to reinforce the village and surrounding. I’m talking about making defensive ditches around, pitfalls, and other defense mechanisms!” continued Alex, quickly extinguished the villagers’ joys. The hoorays turned to boos real fast.“Now, now, don’t be like that! This will be useful in the long term, consider this as your future investment,” said Alex, atte
Even before the dawn broke, Horat already left the village. He couldn’t wait to defile Alex’s reputation in front of King Romeus. As soon as he arrived, Horat went to have audience with the king, who had been eager to hear Horat’s report.“Your Majesty, I regret to inform you that the Hero you put great faith on, has abused the authority you’ve granted,” said Horat, beginning his subjective report.“I witnessed the Hero was trying to rival you there, acting like a king. He tyrannically ordered the villagers to commit illegal logging, plundering and pillaging the resources which I am sure without your permission. He even had the gall to enlist the civilians into his wannabe army, forcing them under harsh training. Women and children were exploited as labourers to manufacture the weapon,” exposed Horat. “I suspect he was trying to usurp your throne.”“Outrageous! Aren’t the party members there? Why didn’t anybody stop him?” interrogated King Romeus.“They seemed like they’re under the H
“Cheers!” yelled the villagers as their wooden mugs clashed. Laughters were heard all around. The vibrant vibes were beautified by a full moon, too. Truly a night worth celebrating. Nobody would have thought that this cheerful village was once about to be ravaged by otherworldly beings before. It was quite a feast they’re having. For this special occasion, simple yet appetizing dishes were served, complemented by homemade beers and wines. Everybody was enjoying this festival which was held to celebrate their victory over the demon horde.“Sir Hero, we apologize for this plain hospitality,” said the village chief to Alex. “Though it may not be much, but we do hope that you at least found our sincerity through our offerings.”“Old man, are you kidding me? This is the best meal I’ve eaten in a while!” praised Alex after gulping an entire bowl of onion soup. “The last time I was about to eat lavishly like this, those damned demons had to come and interrupted my dinner!”Helene who sat bes
As the group anxiously waiting by the side of the poisonous river, Mephisto’s conditions turns to worse. Helene and Merith are doing their hardest to treat Mephisto but to no avail. The bedridden bird can only hacks and coughs despite their best effort, signaling that the treatment from Helene and Marion didn’t work as expected.“Kween...” Chirp Mephisto weakly.“Meppy! Meppy! Stay with me, okay? Don’t leave me yet.” Stella cries as she hugs Mephisto. As they argued, a giant shadow suddenly emerged out of river with a splash and lands in their vicinity. It was Marion that jumped out of water. On his side, he is holding a creature with a weird body shape, resembling an eel with whiskers and a bloated stomach.“Here is the Lele fish!” Marion shows everybody his catch. The fish can only helplessly squirms on Marion’s grasp.“That’s... You sure ‘that’ is a fish?” Question Salieri.“That no animal. That monster.” Rasheed readies his w
“You’re not doing much of a help, Helene! You know what? You’re a useless saintess!”Stella’s angered words were still spinning inside the saintess thoughts. Her pride was hurt seeing that she couldn’t heal Mephisto and Stella was disappointed in her. Despite the harsh truth, Helene decided to try again after several unsuccessful attempts.“Helene, don’t go too hard on yourself,” Pandora reminded her.“I don’t,” replied the saintess quickly, her hands still busy pressing Mephisto’s weakening body with all of her might. “I just have to … heal Mephisto and prove that I’m a worthy member of this time.”“We are all valuable and worthy, no one is superior to others,” responded Alex, “take it slow, Helene. Don’t rush.”Seeing Helene’s work in vain, Pandora decided to leave the scene and inspect the waterfall. As she peered from above, her eyes caught something long and dark wiggling underneath. The witch sharpened her sight and noticed that it
Every hero party member was now relieved after being trapped inside the maze-like, magic forest. As Alex looked up at the darkened sky and the sun was already on the western horizon, he realized they'd spent hours figuring out the escape."Gosh, how long have we been there?" he said with surprise.“Ah, finalmente!” Salieri exclaimed, plopping himself to the grassy ground and stretching his feet. “My legs are sore from walking for days and I can feel my feet blistering.”“Just man up and don’t exaggerate, you limp man” Germio replied, as always being grumpy. “We’ve been there only for a few hours.”As the rest of the group rested and gained some energy, Stella looked around and examined the new surrounding. All the elf girl saw was just an expanse of green meadow, but her keen hearing sensed something more. She quickly took a turn to the opposite side of the sun, following the stone path. It was slightly slippery from the moss that grew on almost e
They have been walking for around an hour now and yet they could not find any sign of exit. The party began to feel tired.“Sir Alex. Everyone is tired. Should we take a break?” Helene looked worried. She could feel Pandoran and the merfolks began to catch their breath.“Just a little more. Resting in the forest and got lost might be a bad idea. We need to find the exit soon.” Alex demanded the team to keep walking more because as far as he could remember, there was a forest that could trap them for days. Alex’s memory was quiet blurry at that time but one thing for sure that when he decided to take a rest in a certain forest, on the next day they were trapped for more than one day.The others nodded in agreement because they believed in Alex’s decision. So, they tried their best to continue walking while following the hero.More minutes have passed and they were still wandering around the foggy forest. Not only Pandora and the merfolks, the other coul
Alex and his party continued their journey to explore Tiryag continent after they had enough rest. They came deeper into the forest until they reached the area where fog started to appear. The fog was not so thick and they could see the road in sight. They might arrived in a new area and new enemies might appear anytime soon.“Hmm, this forest give me a chill.”Pandora commented. It seemed like she could sense something.“What is it, Pan? Do you sense any enemy?” Alex asked. He was leading the team by walking in front line.“I’m not sure. I just feel like something is bothering me.” Pandora still could not clearly stated what she felt once she came into this foggy forest. She tried to find out herself. As they kept on walking further, they could hear a sound like a giggle.“Hey, elf girl. What are you giggling about?” Germio looked at Stella suspecting her for being the one who giggled. The sound was indeed like a little girl and it fit he
It took almost a day until Alex and his party arrived in Tiryag continent. The ship was anchored near a beach that looked gloomy with eerie atmosphere. There was no sign of lives as far as they tried to search around it. However, they could feel uneasiness when they tried to see the forest right in front of them. Soon after that, they decided to explore the continent by going forward to that forest hoping that they could find some clues about how to locate the Demon King. The large group were walking peacefully without encountering something dangerous at that moment. But soon, they might find themselves surrounded with uncertain dangers and challenges ahead.“Rasheed, are you alright?” Alex asked after reading the expression of that big fella that turned discouraged. Despite of Rasheed’s big body, that expression did not really suit him. Moreover, Alex could remember something about his past life when he stepped into Tiryag along with his hero party. He believed th
“Avast ye, ye filthy camper! ‘Twas so cowardly of you to launch a sneak attack like that!” cursed Jillaab. He aimed his remark at the ocean, suspecting that the assault just now came from down there. That statement resulted in a twin pillars of water forming from the seemingly calm waves. And from within those pillars, two blue shadows appeared and landed on board.“Shiver me timbers! ‘Tis the Wow Warriors!” exclaimed Balastar, finding it hard to see two humanoid fishes walking towards him with two legs. “I thought it was just a myth!”“Wow Warriors?” asked Pandora. It was clearly merfolks that they saw in front of them. “Is that how you guys call merfolks?”“Young lass, we have no idea what this merfolk yer’ talking about, but the Wow Warriors we’re referring to is a stuff of legend, used to be told as a nighttime scary stories!” replied Jillaab, equally in awe with his comrade.“Aye, that be true, matey! Many a sailor have told tales of their terrifying encounters with the Wow Warri
It had been less than an hour since the ship departed the port, but the debate had been going nonstop. The main topic was caused by Alex’s rash decision to recruit the two pirates who appeared out of nowhere.“Al, have you lost your mind?” protested Pandora. “We don’t know about these two dirty guys and you just casually invited them aboard? On top of that, you entrusted them with the wheel!”“Not to mention that sinister-looking parrot, Alex!” Stella took on Pandora’s side. “This ship is too small for two birds. Mephy should be the only one on board!”Alex, on the other hand, didn’t directly entertain their banter. Instead, he just stood there, allowing each of his crews to vent their dissatisfaction. Meanwhile Jillaab and Balastar were having a god round of the ship, amazed by the beauty they laid their eyes upon."Ahoy there! Ye lot be blessed enough to sail the virgin ocean on this beauty, yet ye still find time to argue? Ye should be grateful for this adventure and enjoy the jour
“What’s wrong, Alex?” asked the King. “Where did all of your previous enthusiasm go?”“Your Majesty, I would love to do as just what you told me. But steering the ship is something out of my realm of capabilities.” Alex chose his words carefully not to displease the King. “I’ve been looking around for a while, but never did once I saw someone tending the ship.”Frown appeared in King Romeus’ forehead. “Didn’t you subdue the pirates before here in this very place? I thought you were no stranger to command a ship?”“Yeah, but that time a good person came to my aid,” argued Alex, his eyes were scanning the surrounding and by a pure stroke of luck, he locked his view on his aforementioned lifesaver. “Speak of the devil, that was the man!”Hamith, being pointed out by Alex, smiled and waved at his old companion, approaching him lightly. “Sir Hero, I have heard that there would be a grand farewell of the heroes here on the port, so I made my way here. And boy am I honored to know that you s
