After a sleepless night, Salieri woke up with a mixed feeling. Alex’s words still occupied his mind. He got to admit that indeed his physique was not the best in the team, but as a Bard, he didn’t have to worry about that. Or so he thought.
Opening the door of his room, Salieri headed towards the dining area. First thing first, his belly needed to be fed. When he arrived there, he found nobody else around.
“A healthy mind comes from a nutritious foods,” mumbled Salieri as his hands reached a toast of bread and soft cheese, along with fresh grapes and apples. But before that, he decided to quench his thirst by gulping a glass of orange juice.
“So light, is that all you’re having?” commented Alex who appeared out of nowhere, surprising Salieri in process. “Are you on a diet or something?”
“Mamma mia! Before your prophecy of me dying in battle comes true, I suspect I will die first thanks to your sneaky behaviour, Senor!” protested Salieri after he finished coughing up the orange juice he choked on. “And I’m not on a diet, this is a regular breakfast from the region I was born!”
“Whoa, calm down, Sal. This is unlike you. What happened to your usual carefree, happy-go-lucky attitude?” chuckled Alex, trying to calm the Bard down.
“Well Senor, to be frank, I’m still upset about what you told me last night,” replied Salieri. “Your words disrupted my beauty sleep! You owe an apology to my fair skin!”
“Ah, sleep deprivation, huh? That explains your cranky mood,” concluded Alex. “But still, my statements remain firm. You need to strengthen your base.”
“Well, if you insist, I guess I have no choice, right?” agreed Saliery half-heartedly.
“Yup, glad I could have your consent. I was about to take the hard way if you refuse, though,” grinned Alex meaningfully. “So, as a starter, add this to your breakfast, pronto!”
Saliery could only watch when Alex gave him a plate of meat, eggs, and all other stuffs he found so grotesque he couldn’t afford to see, let alone stomach it.
“Senor, this is breakfast. Hell, even if it’s a fancy dinner or something, I couldn’t finish it all!” refused Salieri. “And I am not used to eat red meat. It’s disgusting!”
“Oh, and you don’t have to finish it all in one go. It takes time to get used to it, so just eat as you see fit,” said Alex as he left the room. “We don’t want you to overeat and unable to move now, do we? I’ll be waiting on the training ground when you’re done with it.”
It was hard to take a bite at first, and even harder the next time. As expected, he couldn’t finish it all. But he started to get familiarized with the exquisite taste of protein in his meal.
“Now that you’re here, I assume that you finished your hearty breakfast?” asked Alex when Salieri finally joined him for training. “Because you will need more energy for the upcoming training,”
“So, what I want you to do is some regular basic training that anyone can do,” explained Alex. “For starter, you can give me 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 10 squats, finished by 1 km run.”
Salieri unconsciously opened his mouth to hear Alex’s order. It’s not that big of a number, but for non-fighter like him, that’s quite a rigorous exercise.
“I know you’re surprised by how light the training is. But as a beginner, I need you to start with this. We don’t want to risk your body shocked by the sudden intensity of the drill,” continued Alex. “Don’t worry, that’s just for a set. Your goal today is 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, closed by 10 km run, divided into 10 sets. But since I was such an understanding person, there will be like 10 minutes break in between each set.”
Salieri’s jaw gaped even wider to hear that hellish programme which sounded more like a punishment in his ears.
“Senor, do you want to kill me slowly?” asked Salieri. “There’s no way I could finish all of that in a day! Even just thinking about that makes me feel like I’m going bald!”
“Sal, chill. Just like the breakfast I served you, just try first and see for yourself how far can you go,” reasoned Alexl. “We can pick up from that point. I will be back like around breaktime or even later. Good luck until then!”
Although he felt it was impossible, but still Salieri decided to start the training. He could feel sore as his muscles started to tear as a side effect of working out for the first time in a while. Yet he kept on going. He channelled all of his anger into energy used for the training. One set felt like forever.
After his 5th run, Salieri laid down on the ground and took a well-deserved rest. That’s it, I quit, he thought. I didn’t sign up to be a hero for this, all I wanted to do was to play music, if I could save some folks while doing it, then that’s no skin off my nose, pondered Salieri.
An arrow suddenly passed through the blue sky which Salieri gazed at.
“Oi musician, you’re in the way. Move!” shouted Stella from the distance.
That’s right, who would protect my cute Stella if I’m not around, thought Salieri. Though it’s hard, but I will press forward for her sake, or at least until the song I specially composed for her is finished, decided Salieri in his heart.
“Sal, you look exhausted and lonely. Perhaps you need a company,” said Alex who, as always, made his appearance as quiet as possible. “How about you joining him, Stella?”
“I’m alright with my bow and arrow, thank you!” refused Stella. “I’m confident with my agility, so close-combat training like this isn’t my priority!”
“True, but one hit from an enemy and you’re a goner,” commented Alex. “And we can’t afford to lose our trustworthy marksman.”
“Hmph, fine if you insist!” agreed Stella brashly, trying to hide her fluttering heart who took Alex’s words as compliment. “Sally, let’s go!”
“At your service, Mi Senora!” shouted Salieri who seemed to have his soul revived from the brink of death just by hearing his beloved elf would join him in training.
“Hey, what’s the ruckus all about?” yelled a loud voice owned by someone with the same attire as Commander Tristan. “Entry is restricted to authorized personnel only. Who allowed you to be here?”
“I did, Troy,” replied Tristan who came joining them. Seemed like he was witnessing everything from the start. “The lads are here for the sake of national security, and as we all know, national security is our top priority!”
“Hmph, if you said so,” responded Troy while leaving the ground. “As long as that so-called hero wouldn’t stain this honourable ground with his ill manner like what he displayed before to His Majesty!”
Hearing that remark, Alex realized that he still had a long way to go to unite this kingdom into one banner. But at least Tristan could be relied on, hopefully followed by the others as well.
“Hi darling, I haven’t seen you all day long, where have you been?” greeted Pandora as soon as she saw Alex who just finished patrolling around.“Usual stuff, patrolling, supervising, you know, menial stuffs like that,” replied Alex, ignoring Pandora’s temptation. “Actually, I was looking for you as well,”“Oh my, and what do you want from me? Something physical?” teased Pandora, escalating her seductive approach. “The sun is still high on the sky, don’t you want it a little bit later, in the evening perhaps?”“No, quite the contrary. I want that physical stuff to be done here during the daylight. There’s still some space enough for you and me on the training ground. Salieri and Stella are already there too for the same reason,” explained Alex, still unaware of Pandora’s innuendo. “Come with me!”“Goodness, how pushy and daring of you! I never thought you were into that kinky stuff!” responded Pandora. “And you told me Salieri and Stella were doing that too there? What an unlikely com
"Miss Helene, we will be under your care for today!” greeted the up and coming young alchemists assembled in the Royal Alchemy Center. “Please treat us well!”“Please, no need to be so formal,” replied Helene warmly. “To tell you all the truth, I am also a novice in this part, so we’re standing on equal ground.”The alchemists looked at each other, confused to hear Helene’s remark. At this point, it had been a common knowledge that nobody rivaled the Holy Saintess in terms of potions crafting. To hear the Saintess herself proclaimed her inexperience in front of them was something unexpected for the apprentices.Whisperings kept getting louder, perhaps Helene also realized that. But before she could ask what was going on, one of the alchemists raised his hand, unable to hold back his question any longer.“Um, Miss Helene, are our ears deceiving us? Because we just heard you said you were a novice,” asked one of the alchemists, followed by noddings of his colleagues. “I mean, you are ou
Nobody would thought that just a while ago, that room was so cheerful. Very contrast with what was happening now. The alchemists who were enjoying what they saw as a free circus, held their breath and conquered by dismay. Alex who quickly grasped the situation, approached Horat who laid on the floor defenselessly. He crouched to check on further what was the current situation of the royal snob. “Wait, the world will be a better place if this scumbag is out of this world...” thought Alex’s evil side. “All you have to do is nothing, and voila, one less trouble to think about,” “No, you can’t do that,” protested Alex’s benevolent side. “Don't allow yourself stoop so low to let that slide.” “Pfft, remember what he did to you in your previous life?!” roared the malevolent thought in Alex’s mind. “Don’t you want this asshole reap what he sowed?” “But wait, in this life, Horat hasn’t done anything worthy of his death yet,” mumbled Alex to himself, finally gaining control back over his bo
That morning, Assembly Hall was packed with more people than usual. And it’s not just any ordinary-looking persons gathered there. Clearly there were individuals of status attending the event. Even representatives from neighboring countries didn’t want to miss any recent development regarding the hottest event in town. Yes, everybody came there for witnessing the progress of Alchemic Incident. That’s how the public called the latest uproar which starred Horat as the main cast. Although Alex didn’t feel he took any participating role, but nevertheless he was summoned there in front of the king, as a defendant.“Silence!” shouted Nelson to the audience. “We are about to begin the investigation, so nobody speaks unless allowed to!”“Yesterday, Horat was minding his own business, patrolling around the Royal Alchemy Center. His sense of justice brought him there, although it was not his job to do so. That’s when he decided to have a closer look at the potion-crafting activities, since ther
“Your Holiness, have you heard the news?” asked the cardinal to the Shrine Master. “It seems the whole kingdom is on frenzy over the appearance of potions potent enough to heal even the worst of wounds.”The Shrine Master looked at his subordinate with a charismatic gaze, without any answer out of his mouth.“Summon Helene at once, she would have a lot of explaining to do,” decreed the Shrine Master with a deep voice. The cardinal bowed solemnly at the Shrine Master’s words and dispatched a messenger to inform Helene to quickly answer the Shrine Master’s call. Not long afterwards, Helene was already there, without any idea why she was summoned in the first place.“O Royal Saintess, I believe you know the reason why I want you here?” asked the Shrine Master.“Your Holiness, I’m afraid I have no clue at all,” replied Helene. “If you would be so kind as to enlighten me regarding that matter,”“I heard that you were involved in those so-called demonic potions,” said the Shrine Master. “Wh
After they left the Shrine, Alex and Helene parted ways because Helene already made an appointment with the girls for a shopping session together. Our Hero walked in a slow pace, with his previous arguments with the Shrine Master in mind.Actually he already knew one of the factors behind the lack of healers around the Nousant Kingdom. It was no other than the insufficient pure mana energy which scattered around. That was also why many people with magic aptitudes opted to follow the path of offensive abilities, because the mana used for that could easily be extracted from the nature around them. For example, the fire mages could utilize sun rays for their spells, meanwhile plant-based spellcasters depended on mana from the trees. The healers, thanks to their non-elemental magic, found nothing to back up their capabilities, making them have no options left but to rely on their innate aura.In his first journey, he almost found a solution for that. It came in the form of a plot of land
It was just another broad daylight when Alex led his party to continue their journey. No matter how steep the mountains they climb, how harsh the valleys they pass through, how fast the rivers flow to wade through, as the time went by, they keep going through."For God damn sake ..." swore Gremio as his short legs stumbled upon the pebbles and slippery moss.Alex didn't take a second to turn his head and yelled, "Rasheed!"As per usual, the tallest lad of the party rolled his eyes and then went forward to the rescue. Without hesitation let alone asking for permission, he lifted Gremio, released him from his struggle, and carried him away by the shoulder."Are ... you ... an ... effing ... losing ... your ... mind?!" cried the dwarf while punching his fists on Rasheed's head with every word he said.Alex was the one who finally reached the peak with the more stable surface, and looked down in annoyance. "Yeah, that's how you do it, Sir Gremio! Keep losing your energy like there is no t
After the dwarves finished their work, Lucius, Opa Dwarf entertained the heroes led by Alex for a meal. They even took out their best stock of alcohol and slaughtered the livestock that had fled into the forest, due to the goblin attack earlier. The dwarfs also brought several jars full of gold honey that they collected at the hives of the mountain range. After the meal, they all went into the living room to drink. The dwarf king gave a bottle of ale to each of the adventurers. Even Gremio was there.‘This seems like a nice family gathering. I should get closer to them,’ thought Alex.He walked to Lucius and the dwarves, sat down in front of the fireplace, and sipped a sip of the strong liquor that the dwarves offered him.Lucius noticed his guest sitting among them and raised an eyebrow slightly. He smiled and then gestured for Alex to sit closer.Alex approached Lucius and sat right next to him and grinned as he felt the fireplace heat radiating in his side.Seeing the leader sittin
