CHAPTER 10 - NULLOS, LIFE FRAGMENT
Ethan looked at the small screen on his wrist. The focused fragment sensor moves - signs that they are getting closer.
Suddenly the submarine shook violently.
KRRAAAK!
Alarm lit red.
"There is an anomaly wave!" shouted Lucille. "The energy field changes - we are sucked in local gravity!"
Ethan jumped from the chair. "Activate the Emergency System! We must come out now!"
Within seconds, the cabin is filled with the sound of thumps and distortion. Their bodies are attracted as if swallowed by a whirlpool. The world reversed.
And when Ethan opened his eyes. He stood on the streets of the city of Dena.
Orange sky, tall buildings rot, vehicles froze in the air like a statue of time. Lucille's face was pale beside him, her body staggered.
"This is ... not the present," he murmured. "We were withdrawn to the past of this city, before sinking."
Ethan felt the pulse of fragments getting stronger. He raised his hand - Codex's hand shined unnaturally.
Suddenly the sound of a rushed step from the right. A young girl appeared, disheveled blonde hair, wearing a lab coat covered in blood. His eyes widened when he saw them.
"You are not from here," he said quickly. "You guys come because of fragments, huh? You have to go! Now!"
Lucille advanced the steps. "Who are you?"
"I ... researchers here. In the past. My name is Rhea. I tried to stop this experiment, but it was too late. The fourth fragment - was not just an energy source. He—"
Boom !!
A big explosion breaks the sky. A tower collapsed in the distance. The vibrations echoed to the bones.
"He rose," Rhea whispered in fear.
"Who?" Ethan asked, in the middle of a critical situation.
Rhea looked at them, and in that gaze there was no hope.
"The fourth fragment is not an object. But creatures. He is called 'nullos.' And he doesn't want to be bound anymore."
Ethan clenched his fist. "We don't come this far to retreat. Show where he is."
Rhea gave a hand code, "Come on! Follow me!"
---
They followed the underground corridor of the city - the central laboratory. The light is dim from the damaged tubes to illuminate their path. At the end of the hallway, there is a giant dome -shaped space with a codex symbol carved in the middle.
There, he waited.
A giant creature - a height of almost ten meters - was cross -legged in the middle of the dome. His body looks like a combination of liquid metal and living tissue. His face ... formless.
But once Ethan stepped in, the creature slowly rose.
"I have been human," Nullos's voice echoed throughout the room. "Before fragments eat my memory. Now, I am only the rest of the human desire to live eternally."
Lucille activates the scanner. "The structure is entirely synonymous with nerve networks. He is not just a creation. He—"
Fwoom!
Black rays shot from Nullos's body. Ethan pulled Lucille and Rhea backward. The wall collapsed, the ceiling trembled.
"He will not hand over his fragments peacefully," whispered Lucille.
Ethan advanced, blue light enveloped his body.
"No need to be peaceful," he said.
"Enough justice."
And the fight began.
Brakk !!
Ethan's body bounced into a metal pillar on the left side of the room. Dust and steel broken flying as he gritted the teeth with the pain. Nullos stood straight, his body was burning with a dark aura wrapped around like a life smoke. Every step produces heavy echoes that shook the old laboratory floor.
Lucille ran to Ethan's side. "We can't fight it directly! He - he reacts like living things, but the energy patterns in it are similar to the previous fragments structure ... it's just more complex."
Rhea glared at Nullos. "You have to break his soul connection from the core of fragments. He only lives because fragments bind his consciousness."
"How to?" Ethan asked as he stood up, gritting the jaw.
"There must be direct contact," Rhea answered in a low voice. "But that means you have to reach the core of his body ... where he is the most powerful."
Nullos does not give time to think. He raised his hand-suddenly the surrounding room became dark. Not only because of lighting light, but like reality itself is pulled into his body.
"You want to take my life again?" The sound of Nullos echoed, shook their bones. "You think you guys are more appropriate to have it?"
Ethan looked at him, then glanced at the Codex gloves which was now burning wildly. Previous fragments react strongly to the presence of Nullos - as if recognizing each other.
"If you still have a memory as a human," Ethan said softly, "You surely know ... that life is not to be hidden behind void."
He jumped, penetrating the thick shadow surrounding Nullos. The blue flash exploded from his palm, hit the creature's chest.
Zzzzhhhhhrrraaakk !!
Nullos groaned - a not only loud, but contained sobs, pain, and longing mixed into one.
But he hasn't lost.
The creature pulled Ethan into the air and slammed it to the floor with brutal power. Ethan vomited blood, but his eyes were not blinking. He knew, the only way was to penetrate the core of Nullos's consciousness from within.
"Activate Fragment Synchronization Mode!" Ethan shouted.
Codex gloves throbbed strongly - the three fragments had shined in unison, forming ancient sigil patterns in the air. Nullos staggered, his body trembled as if disturbed by internal resonance.
Lucille saw that opportunity. "Now! Enter the network!"
Ethan put his hand on the chest of the creature, and in an instant, his mind was absorbed in.
Dark. Lonely. Then ... sound.
"Who are you?"
Ethan opened his eyes. He stood in a long corridor, his walls were filled with memory reflection. A man stands at the end of the hall, wearing a lab coat. His face is Nullos's face, the human version.
"I was named Sal," he said, his voice was calm. "Researchers in this city. I want to live eternally, so that I can correct my mistakes. But apparently, eternity kills everything that has ever made me human."
Ethan walked closer. "You don't have to continue like this. You can hand over the fragments, and rest."
Sal looked at him silently. "If you really want to break this, you have to see all my memories. And bear it."
Suddenly, the corridor wall turned into a memory screen. Ethan saw the destruction of the city of Dena. Crazy research. Scientists fell one by one because obsession manipulated time. He saw Sal losing his wife and child - because of the experiments he was running himself.
Ethan closed his eyes. The pain is real, suffocating. But he stood tall.
"I accept. And I
will take you out of this cycle."
Sal smiled weakly. "Then ... take it."
Light exploded. Creating a very loud sound like a bomb.

CHAPTER 1 - whisper in the middle of the cityThe rain flushed the city in silence, like a blanket of fog that fell slowly from the gray sky. The streets were quiet, only the sound of water drops bouncing from the roofs of old concrete and street lights that flicked slowly in the middle of the night. Ethan stood under the bus stop that had begun to rust, his jacket was wet half dry, his eyes stared blankly at the road that seemed never to end. After work at night has become a routine. But tonight feels different. The cold air pierced his bones sharper, and there was something in the air that made the hair stand on his hair. He slipped his hand into his pocket, squeezing something that felt warm-a small-shaped small-shaped stone he found this afternoon between the warehouse debris where he used to deliver the goods. At that time, he just fad touched him. But since then, his ears often hear whispers. Not the voice of people, more like echoes that resonate from far and foreign places

There are sounds ... like thousands of people pray and cry."Lucille and Dante looked at each other. "It's not a dream," Lucille whispered. "That's Codex's memory. You're looking at the forgotten historical fragments.""And the tower," added Dante, "is the fourth gate. If it is open, then this world will run out."Ethan was silent. A run out of a world? There is no way back."Ethan closed his eyes for a moment. His breathing slowly, he recalled everything - his mother, night when he almost died in the city hallway, whispering fragments that live in his chest. He did not want to just be strong. He wants to understand ... control ... and change. "I chose the blue path," he said firmly. Lucille smiled faintly. "Wise."Instantly, the blue symbol brought brightly and penetrated Ethan's body like a fog. He gasped, his body trembled violently. Suddenly everything felt heavy and light at the same time. The voices of the surroundings were heard clearer-the wind, the vibration of the ground, even Lucille's calm heartbeat. "Welcome to the second world, Ethan," murmured Dante.
