Chapter 7 - Ghost of the Highest Orbit

Before Ethan had asked, the whole room began to vibrate.

From the back wall, a half -machine human figure appeared - red, his right arm was replaced by a plasma rotating weapon. He spoke in an unknown language.

But Ethan understood it.

"You ... not chosen."

"You're not just chosen," he repeated.

After that the fight broke out. Fragment guard attacks at lightning speed. Lucille held a shot with an energy protector, while Ethan avoided and tried to use resonance to lock the opponent.

"He's part of the old system!" exclaimed Lucille. "It can only be stopped if the fragment is subject to you!"

Ethan closed his eyes. In the darkness of his mind, he spoke to the second fragment.

'If you can hear .... I'm not your enemy. I'm not a sealing. I ... new hope guard. '

The fragment sighed, then blended in the blue and green pulse in his hand.

Ethan opened his eyes. The light on his body was burning, and in one movement he threw the resonance wave at the guard. The old engine froze, then crushed in flakes of light.

Silent again.

Lucille looked at him, this time not coldly, but respect.

"You succeeded."

Ethan stood with a heavy breath. "Two fragments ... five more."

"Yes. Five more," murmured Lucille, confirmed.

---

On the way home, in Helix-02, Lucille said softly, "Thank you for not giving up to me, even though I cracked."

Ethan smiled faintly. "We are all cracked. But the right fragments, can make the cracks glow."

___

Helix-02 landed smoothly on the secret base of Division X. The sky was gray when Ethan and Lucille dropped, carrying the second fragment which is now embedded in the core of the resonance in Ethan's gloves.

They were welcomed by only one person.

Dante.

The man in a long black suits looked at them sharply as usual, but there was something different this time - a hurry. His hands held data tablets that vibrated because of the notification flow that did not stop.

"You have to come with me. Now," he said shortly.

Lucille glanced at Ethan. "What is it?"

Dante did not answer until they arrived at the main command room.

Holographic screen in the middle of the room displays foreign objects floating outside the orbit of the earth - not registered on any satellite, and does not show any code of civilization.

"This object appears one hour after the second fragment is activated," Dante said.

Ethan frowned. "As it happens?"

Dante looked at him. "No. We are sure this is a reaction."

Lucille leaning to the console, fast reading spectrum data and electromagnetic signs.

"This is not a drone. Not an ordinary ship. There is a Codex trail to him."

Ethan took a half step back. "You say Codex can't live outside the atmosphere."

"That was first," Dante interrupted. "Until we find this."

He knocked on the screen, and recording of space drones appeared. A giant metal ship, semicircular shaped, rotates slowly like observing the earth. A faint blue light flows from its surface, forming a pattern like a life pulse.

In the middle carved symbol: O.

Lucille muttered, "Obscura."

Dante nodded. "We call it orbital revenant. And he spoke."

He played the audio recorded for 20 seconds. The voice was deep, inhuman, but clear:

"The broken light has risen. The old owner has been resurrected. We are waiting for the connector."

"We are waiting for the connector ..."

---

The room suddenly quiet.

Ethan looked at the screen as if he could penetrate it. "Fractions of light ... Codex fragments?"

Lucille added, "and 'connecting' ... it could be you, Ethan."

Dante interrupted, "The problem is, this is not an ordinary communication. The ship emits frequencies that damage the codex network on earth. We lose access to most fragments maps."

Lucille closed her eyes for a moment. "They locked us."

"It's worse," continued Dante. "They opened another door."

He turned the earth map, highlighting the red points that began to appear in the last 12 hours-the empty zone, the place where Codex should be inactive, now emitting a strong signal.

One of them - in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Ethan pointed. "What's that?"

Dante hesitated for a moment, then said quietly, "The place is known as the Womb -Rahim. Allegedly as the first place of Codex was planted on earth."

Lucille raised eyebrows. "That's a legend. Nobody ever—"

"We have to go there," Ethan interrupted.

Dante looked at him for a long time, then nodded. They get ready.

---

The mission to the Indian Ocean is not as before. Division X lowered the underwater stealth ship named Leviathan. Ethan, Lucille, and a young technician named Juno.

Ethan froze. The voice of the figure that resembled it pierced the bone. The unnamed space feels like a vortex of time and memory, spinning and tearing his head.

Lucille tried to move, but her body remained stiff as if bound by the invisible terrain.

The figure of "old ethan" stepped closer, his steps did not speak, his robe glowed fine light.

"The fragments you carry are not just keys, Ethan. He is a reminder and a binder," he said quietly. "You can't run away from whom you before. Because this world is rising from a long sleep."

Ethan tried to talk. "If indeed I was 'old', why don't I remember anything? Why did Codex give me this?"

The figure looked at him deeply.

"Because you die."

Silent.

Juno took a short breath. Even this unknown terrain could not reduce the fear that began to creep.

"Codex doesn't kill you. But humans. You are torn from your own soul, and are stored in time capsules. Division X instills you again, hope you will never remember."

Ethan muttered, "Dante ... he knows?"

The figure did not answer directly. But there is a subtle change in the aura of the space.

"You will know who decides this chain."

Suddenly the room shook. The shock wave propagated from all directions, as if there was something trying to break through outside the dimension.

The streets were quiet, only the sound of water drops bouncing from the roofs of old concrete and street lights that flicked slowly in the middle of the night. Ethan stood under the bus stop that had begun to rust, his jacket was wet half dry, his eyes stared blankly at the road that seemed never to end. After work at night has become a routine. But tonight feels different. The cold air pierced his bones sharper, and there was something in the air that made the hair stand on his hair. He slipped his hand into his pocket, squeezing something that felt warm-a small-shaped small-shaped stone he found this afternoon between the warehouse debris where he used to deliver the goods. At that time, he just fad touched him. But since then, his ears often hear whispers. Not the voice of people, more like echoes that resonate from far and foreign places
