18. My Heart Can't Take It

Next Day,

"Ring...Ring...!"

"Who is it so early in the morning?" Devansh just came out of the shower, wearing a towel, showing off his upper body, which had yet to develop.

"Hmm... Goddess Ratna? What does she want?" He looked at his phone, seeing messages from Kiran Ratna.

"Devansh: What's up, Miss Ratna? You remember me so early in the morning!"

Devansh opened ChatWise and typed in their private chat. A reply came immediately.

"Kiran: Well, I just wanted to express my gratitude to you for what you did yesterday. So, are you free today?"

Looking at the message, he smiled, seeing that she wasn't asking why he did that or where he got the money from.

'How thoughtful of her, not poking for details,' Devansh thought in his head.

"Devansh: Well, I am free. It's not like we have any classes today."

"Kiran: Great! Then let's meet at MoonHeart Square an hour later!

"Devansh: Ohh... Alright."

"What exactly is this lady planning? But money sure is a wonderful thing. Just before yesterday, I was a nobody to a person like Kiran Ratna, and now she is even inviting me herself for a date!" Devansh muttered under his breath, laughing at the irony of his past situation.

"Hey, Brother Devansh! What's going on? Look at the university forum! Is this shit true? But why haven’t we heard anything from you?" Just then, his roommates came back after their morning exercise and asked in a bewildered tone while showing their phones in his face.

"Who started this joke? Can't you see someone is trying to make a fool of me? How can that be true? You know me well!" Devansh looked at the forum before glancing at his roommates' faces, which had an 'explain it to us' expression, before shaking his head and denying any claim.

'Who is trying to ruin my peaceful time at the university? Even though it's half true, I really am poor, not rich at all,' Devansh thought with an amused smile before shaking his head, remembering what kind of rumors had spread in the forum.

One was even more absurd, saying he was the son of a billionaire who got tired of people looking at him with differential attitudes and judgmental eyes, so he yearned for a peaceful, quiet life.

That's why he was living the life of a poor person at MariaGold University of Technology while hiding his rich background.

Another rumor claimed that the reason he didn’t tell Aranya Sen about his tycoon background was that he wanted to find true love and not someone interested in his wealth.

Devansh wondered if the person spreading these rumors was a fan of urban legend novels—each rumor was more absurd than the previous one.

"Ohhh... so it's fake rumors! That’s why we thought—how could our Brother Devansh not tell us about this when we live in the same room?" His roommates nodded in understanding as they walked back to their beds before going to shower, leaving Devansh shaking his head at their idiotic thoughts.

"Right, I need to reach MoonHeart Square," Devansh looked at the time and searched for a decent set of clothes before donning them and walking out of his dorm.

Half an hour later, he arrived at the famous city square.

In the middle of the intersection stood a sculpture adorned with milky-white glimmering crystal—a lady holding a half-heart-shaped moon.

"No matter how many times I see this sculpture, it never gets old. Always shining brightly like a ray of hope." Devansh's vision rested on the MoonHeart Lady sculpture, admiration clear in his eyes.

"Hey, lad... are you here to pick someone up?" Just then, a voice brought him back from his thoughts, and he frowned as he looked at the arrogant-looking middle-aged man standing beside his luxurious car.

"An A8udi, not bad, Uncle. You really know how to choose a car; it does suit your personality. By the way, are you also waiting for someone?" Devansh recognized the car and commented sarcastically. The middle-aged man, however, seemed to take it as a compliment.

"Hehe... Not just anyone can afford this beauty. And yeah, I’m waiting for my beautiful lady." The middle-aged man replied with a smug expression.

Devansh was on his cheap bike, which he usually rode, so the middle-aged man was looking down on him. But Devansh didn’t take it to heart, merely giving him a cold smile as he waited for Kiran Ratna.

And he didn’t have to wait long.

"Devansh, over here!" Devansh heard the call, turned towards the source, and smiled, seeing Kiran Ratna walking in his direction from the other side of the intersection. But before he could move towards her, the uncle standing beside him stopped him.

"Wait... wait... wait. Are you dreaming, lad? You can’t even afford a piece of the shoes she’s wearing, so don’t bother dreaming that you can date such a goddess." The middle-aged uncle spoke in cold, disdainful words, but they got stuck in his throat the next second.

"Hey... what are you standing there for? Let’s go!" Kiran Ratna had already arrived by the time the middle-aged uncle was done spouting crap. Devansh just shook his head before gesturing for Kiran Ratna to sit on his bike.

"Goodbye, Uncle. And don’t worry about me... worry about yourself!" Devansh gave him the middle finger with a smile and rode off on his old bike with Kiran Ratna sitting behind him.

"Wha... What the hell...!" The arrogant uncle's mouth hung open as he saw a pauper driving a cheap bike take a goddess for a ride. Feeling a loud smack on his face, he couldn't help but fall down on his butt.

"Damn... my heart can't take it." Feeling the pain from his wounded pride, he took out his phone to make a call.

"Baby... when are you coming? I am still waiting for you at MoonHeart Square." The middle-aged man spoke into the phone in a flattering tone. If Devansh had seen him like this, he would have said, 'As expected, he is a slave.'

"What... you haven’t left yet? Is your brain made of brick that it couldn’t take the hint? Get lost! We are done! Don’t meet me ever again." An even more haughty and arrogant voice came from the other side of the call, making the middle-aged man's expression turn sour and hurt.

"Babe... Please... don’t do this to me...!" The middle-aged man almost cried out as he tried to plead, but the call went dead.

The people watching scoffed at him, saying, 'Look at him! He was giving advice to someone else when he himself is a loser.'

"What’s the 4ucking use of this money?!" The middle-aged man screamed in anger and sadness, startling a few strangers passing by.
