Tifon was awake, but he was still lying in bed.
(Gods I’m tired.)
(How big is the audience going to be for there to be that many seats just in one hall?)
The charity event was going to take place that day, therefore all classes were canceled.
(Should I even go to school? Aurie might be upset but… I mean, it’s not like I’m going to participate in the event anyway.)
Just as he was pondering what to do, Tifon’s phone began to ring.
(That’s got to be Aurie. She’ll probably be angry, but I’ll just tell her that I’m not feeling great.)
“Whelp looks like I was right.”
Sure enough, the caller ID was Aurie’s. After a moment of hesitation, I picked up the phone.
Tifon: “Okay Aurie, just hear me out alright, I’m not feeling that well so-”
###: “Shut the fuck up, V grade.”
Tifon: “!!! … Eion?!”
Eion: “Listen to me very carefully.”
I gulped, I could feel myself slightly shaking.
(What in Tartarus is he doing with Aurie's phone?!)
Eion: “If you want this little beauty, whose phone I’m using right now…To be left alive after I’m done with her…”
I could hear Eion’s breathless gasps in between his words. His panicky voice suddenly let out an unhinged cackle.
Eion: “…Then you’ll get your ass over to the back of our campus.”
“We’re waiting with bated breath, shit stain.”
He hung up the phone.
(What am I… What am I going to do?!)
I flew out the window, I had no time to waste in an explanation for my grandparents. I left the house with just my sandals and night clothes.
The only thing on my mind was getting there as fast as I could. I spared no thought to the future.
As I reached the campus I saw the event celebration taking place.
(Everyone must’ve been there.)
It was the best diversion for him.
Without wasting a breath, I circled the campus to the spot Eion had told me.
(This must be it.)
There was a ledge behind our school. Built on it were a bunch of, what seemed to be, abandoned factories and huts.
I moved along the scraps. It was almost funny, I was probably going to die in the next half hour, and the only thing on my mind was how I wished I’d worn my shoes after all.
(There they are.)
Eion seemed to spot me instantly. Raising his hand he activated his Boon to signal me. Aurie was some distance to his left.
(I’ve come too far to go back now.)
I slid down to them.
Eion: “Aha, Ahahahahah-Aaaaa, I just can’t believe it! It’s too good to be true!”
Eion: “How dumb could you be, really?!”
Tifon: “Stop whatever this is, Eion. I know you don’t want to be a murderer.”
Eion: “…What?”
The look on his face was that of genuine surprise. His change of tone afterward took me by complete surprise.
Eion: “What could you possibly know about me? You’re a lousy cretin in the Gods’ eyes, Tifon! While I am their beloved!”
“I am the son of Apollo, the God of our Sun…!”
Seemingly breathless after this Eion hunched over with his eyes to the ground. Then without moving a muscle he looked straight at me.
Eion: “I can do whatever I Godsdam please.”
Tifon: “Alright, alright. You’ve made your point… what do you want now?”
Eion: “…You’re wrong… I haven’t, not yet. I can see it in your eyes, bastard. You’re still full of pride.”
Tifon: “!!!”
Eion: “And that’s what I want. To make my point.”
He suddenly tensed his whole body up, before rushing at me full tilt.
Tifon: “W-Wai- Eugh!”Before I could even speak his fist crashed into my gut. For a second all the air left my lungs. He was fast.
Not as fast as the commandant.
I saw his movements all the way until he was under me. Right after he landed his strike, I brought my arms together and slammed my elbow into his back.
Eion: “G-Ah! Y-You…?!”
He turned to face me. Not waiting to catch our breaths, we both rushed each other.
My hand was longer, it reached him first, but he backed up just in time to counter with a kick.
It hit me straight in the chest, I was knocked down on my back.
Eion: “…When will it fucking dawn… on you…?”
I was too breathless to answer him, I just stared, sweat dripping down my brow.
He started to walk towards Aurie.
I knew what he was going to do. It drove me to get back up.
(I can barely breathe, I have to take him down with me.)
While his back was turned I ran at him, I couldn’t spare a second. The fatigue was weighing me down more by the second. My eyes were practically closed when I smashed into him.
We both fell, but he still had some energy left.
Rolling on top of me, he got into a mount.
I knew he wouldn’t show any mercy at that point.
Brutally he started cracking his fists into me, it was all I could muster to bring up a guard. Suddenly he stopped and grabbed me by my hair, I instinctively reached for his hand, and at that moment he struck the side of my face. His knuckle went into my eye, my vision was blurred and bloodied.
Aurora: “Plea―― Stop!! That’s――――”
I could hear Aurie’s voice in between pauses. Eion still kept whaling on me. I just wanted to rest now, I wanted to surrender. But he wouldn’t let me. He had a point to prove. He kept going at me until I fainted.
Aurora: “Why won’t you stop!? He’s had enough, PLEASE!”
Eion: “Shut. Your. MOUTH!”
Eion finally got off of Tifon, he made his way to Aurora.
Eion: “Don’t forget, you had a part in this. You practically served him up to me on a silver platter! I know you have some agreement with father, but you were tricked, Aurora!”
“Did he say I wouldn’t go too far? Hmm?! That he had a nice little leash on me so as not to hurt you?!”
Aurora was in tears, she could barely speak.
Aurora: “No please just… I’m begging you…!”
Eion: “You have NO right! Nobody can tell me what to do anymore. I’ll prove it to you right now.”
BEFORE, ON THE ROOFTOP
Aurora: “Why did you want to meet me up here?”
∫∫∫: “My sincerest apologies for the inconvenience, but first tell me. You’ve come alone?”
Aurora: “Yea… I have, I just gave him the slip.”
Lord Xuth smiled gently as he gestured Aurora closer to him. He was standing near the edge of the balcony, leaning against the rails.
Lord Xuth: “Have you gained enough ground with him?”
Aurora: “…I have…”
Lord Xuth: “That’s good, my child.”
Noticing the frown on her face the Lord turned towards her.
Lord Xuth: “I understand wholly why you’re doing this, child.”
The Lord smiled like a saint.
Lord Xuth: “Family first, right?”
Aurora: “…You’ll hold up your end of the deal?”
Lord Xuth: “Of course, child. Your family will be generously compensated for the rest of their lives.”
Aurora started to turn her way back into the school, however, the Lord suddenly continued.
Lord Xuth: “Do not fret over Tifon, Aurora.”
She stopped in her tracks.
“For through him, our dream will be actualized.”
“His sacrifice… It will be our first victory against the Gods.”
She stood frozen there in thought. The Lord passed through her back down to the building.
(Was it truly possible?)
(My family, suffering for so long just because they were never favored by the Gods.)
(Could they really be avenged?)
Aurora: “…Victory…Over the Gods…?”
(Mmmhh… Where…Am I?)I opened my eyes to see Aurie on the ground. Eion had his leg on her back.Eion: “Oho, wakey-wakey there!”“I have a real fun time planned out.”I heard Aurie’s muffled voice with her face on the ground. She was gagged.Eion: “Look, she’s struggling! Why, isn’t that adorable?”He talked with a twisted smile painted on his face. I knew then that he wanted to torture us both.Eion: “You won’t struggle though, will you Tifon? You’ll just lie right there and watch me have my way with her, right?”“You tried struggling before, remember? Didn’t go so well for you.”“When will you realize you can’t stand up to the Gods?!”I was sprawled along my stomach on the floor. My hands were bound, but I wasn’t gagged. He wanted to hear me squeal.Eion: “See ‘Aurie’, he isn’t even making a sound! Silence is acceptance you know.”He stared into Aurie’s eyes completely frenzied.“He’s a little dumb, isn’t he?”“Still doesn’t get that you’re mine, the Gods have given you to me!”I alm
Aurora was transported to the hospital after some emergency care, just as the Lord has promised.Lord Xuth: “Bag the decomposed body, tell Phrosyne to take good care of it.”‘Warrior’ Unit Chief: “And what of the other, sir?”Lord Xuth: “Leave it, evidence for the police. Leave the boy’s limbs too, for that matter.”“The story will work out quite well, hero attempts to save hostage only to perish in the flames, taking his foe down with him.”“Quite fine material for a legend, wouldn’t you say?”The Lord let out a small giggle. The soldier nodded before relaying his orders to the squad.Lord Xuth: “It all begins now.”THE NEXT DAY(Hmm- mmm-…)(!!!)He opened his eyes. For the first time in so long, he was conscious again.∫∫∫: “Now, now, don’t panic, but you have no limbs.”???: “…Who-? What am I?”The Lord smiled softly at him as if a father glancing at his newborn for the first time.Lord Xuth: “You are called Alcaeus, humanity’s champion. Our true God.”???: “…God-?”Lord Xuth: “Ex
(…What?) Mr. Clive: “Students, please calm down! We need to evacuate, there’s been a murder, and two students are already presumed dead!” (Who…?) All were panic-stricken, the sudden emergence of ambulances and overhead flying helicopters was an initial warning. Now the news had finally broken out. Arian only stood in thought, as the entire crowd kept erupting with screams. Everyone was pushing through, trying to get away, but he couldn’t help but wonder. Eion: “Who… Mr. Clive, who are the dead students?!” Mr. Clive seemed to catch Eion’s question, ceasing his speech on mannerly evacuation, he turned to him. Mr. Clive: “I’m told we don’t know for sure, but from what we can tell… One of them was Eion.” The crowd gathered near the teacher suddenly froze in their track. All knew his name. Crowd Member: “He was favored by Apollo, and he died?!” (No it… it can’t be…!!) Mr. Clive: “We will have more information on the circumstances of his death later! For now, please, evacuate in a
The day had finally come, preparations for the speech required some beforehand maintenance, therefore school was canceled for that day as well. It would be an understatement to say Aurora and Arian were not the only ones looking forward to the Lord’s declamation. In fact, entire crowds had formed well before the oration was to take place. No one knew what to anticipate from the Lord. Some fancied he’d make a heartwrenching speech dedicated to his fallen son, and others still, thought he’d twist the tragedy into some business proposal. Only one thing could be said for certain of the public's initial thoughts: none were expecting the speech that would follow. (It's almost time now.) Arian couldn’t wait for a second longer. He needed answers, or rather, needed his assumptions to be validated. He got ready to set off so he’d just make the event, knowing that if he went any sooner the media would jump at the opportunity to interview him. Hopefully, they’d be too engrossed in the Lord’s sp
ΔΔΔ: “Hey! Hold up for a sec Arian!”Arian had just left the campus when he heard a voice calling out to him from behind.Arian: “Palae? What… Why have you come here?”Palae: “Isn’t it obvious, come on I came after you!”Arian: “What they said is probably right, you know… Eion had hate in his soul, maybe he did-”Sensing his growing doubt Palae immediately interposed: Palae: “Maybe so, but what the Lord did after wasn’t right. He shouldn’t have come after you just because you were an X grade, he just used you as a way of pushing his agenda.”Arian: “What is he doing all of this for?”Palae: “I’m not entirely sure, but one thing’s for certain. He really wants them all angry.”“Come on, let's get out of here.”Arian: “?! And where are we going exact-”Arian didn’t even get a chance to question her as Palae grabbed onto his arm and took (read: dragged) him away.(They’re all… They’re practically worshipping him already.)Aurora looked on from a distance at the sight.(They keep cheering
(What does the old man have planned I wonder.)After having stood in the same spot for over 5 minutes I finally saw the Lord coming back.Lord Xuth: “My boy, sorry for the inconvenience, but we’re all ready for you now.”Alcaeus: “What do you mean?”Lord Xuth: “Well, I know we’ve kept you on ice for some time already, therefore I’ve seen to the arrangements. We’ll be conducting your very first fitness survey, so to speak.”I had no idea my capabilities were in question, moreover by someone in such a state as this geezer before me.Alcaeus: “Is my fitness in question?”Lord Xuth: “Oh, Heavens no. What if it were all of us against Arian.”Aurora: “I’ll just speak for myself in this matter, I’m definitely more of a hindrance in a fight than an advantage.”Arian: “I’m afraid even that wouldn’t change much…”Palae: “Hey! We have to keep at it or else we won’t get anywhere.”Arian: “That… Seems easier… For you to say, but…”Arian couldn’t even finish his sentence, he was too preoccupied with just catching his breath. It was already getting pretty late. The school was supposed to be locked down for the day after the rally ended, but Aurora managed to convince the guard to leave locking up to them after they had finished training. ‘Getting ready to fight against those devil X grades’ and all.Mitsuno: “Aurora’s right, you guys! How many times do you think this excuse is going to work?! We have to make the most of it!”Aurora: “I appreciate it, Mitsu, but I don’t really think the hate for an entire group of people dissipates so quickly.”“Speaking of which, Arian… How are you going to make it through school afte
(What am I doing back here?)This happened all too often now, I’ll suddenly forget anything I was thinking of just moments ago in an instant for no reason. Although to be fair, that was the least of my concerns, I used to have some vague idea an hour or two ago but as of right now at least…I have no idea who I am.Alcaeus: “… That’s right, I was thinking about looking for something… someone called an X grade”I know for a fact there shouldn’t be too many X grades in general, it can’t be too much of a problem tracking this guy down. Maybe getting out so quickly out of that makeshift hospital wasn't the best idea. I didn't even get to know who that one lady was that was taking care of me, least of all who "The Lord" she mentioned was."Honestly it probably wasn't worth sticking around just to find out" (I'm getting sidetracked again, seems like all I'm good for at this point.)I definitely knew there was something wrong with me since I'd woken, I mean I literally couldn't even remembe
(…How are they still asleep?!)Aurora had woken up just a bit ago, after barely getting any sleep for that matter. However, much was different for her compatriots. Having been asleep since they came, neither had woken all night, and to top it all off, neither showed any sign of waking soon either.Although she was tired from her restless sleep, Aurora’s injuries were inconsequential. Even before she was tended to at most she had a few cuts and bruises, all that was left now was a dull ache around her shoulders.(Since I barely even qualify as injured, it probably wouldn’t be too wrong of me to just leave.)As Aurora got up from her bed, she glanced at those with her.Arian’s arm had been healed, but because the pain would still linger for some time he needed to wear a cast to limit his motion. Palae on the other hand was seriously bruised, both her heels had gone through serious trauma, and one had even been disjointed. Now although she’d been healed, she wouldn’t be allowed to walk f
(Who… Am I?) His view was darkened, almost as if purposefully concealed. But though he saw nothing, felt nothing, and thought of nothing, he still dreamt. He dreamt of nonexistent memories, life-changing events, and impossible friends. There could be no truth to what he saw, he trusted none of it. But the feeling, it felt real. Every so often his dream would end, and the nightmare would begin. All those he loved, his friends, his family, they’d all suddenly vanish. He would be left with nothing, nothing but those flames. The fires would consume him, the blaze would dissolve everything he had but a moment ago in an instant, gnawing away even at him. The pain was maddening, but after a time those flames would fade away too, nothing would remain in their wake, just darkness. All the memories that he had treasured before became foreign to him then, the emptiness erased everything he knew. And then it would start again. All the memories would flood in, then be ravaged by fire, and then
I had been dragged here by the commandant, someone I thought I’d killed all but an hour ago. The old man ended up agreeing with her initiative, apparently, it’ll bring up my reputation. I don’t see why that matters though, I’m still their God, and they’re still mortals, why should I have to earn their admiration?I made my way to my opponent, the commandant had just called him an X grade. That means he has a powerful active Boon, I wonder whose favor he’s got tucked in there. As I got into the arena I sensed his malice, he was bloodthirsty. I’d gotten well acquainted with that energy after dueling the commandant.Alcaeus: “It would be wise of you not to go into this blind with wrath, it dulls the senses.”Arian: “I did not expect you to understand emotions, what with you being a glorified toaster.”Arian was boiling over, he could barely hold on to his senses every time that murderer opened his mouth. They readied themselves, but all Alcaeus did was slightly raise his hands and arch f
