One year ago, Latina went to the capital. Walking through the slum, searching for something that can she hold onto to become her hope, her aspiration, her reason to live in this world of madness.
The sky was dark and drizzling. Clinging to hope, she's walking, witnessing a dozen of corpses on the side of the road. A common sight to behold in the darkest part of a glorious city. A corpse of kids, adults, even a mother hugging her child. It's stink, a cold and unmoved body that can't hold a conversation.
'....Its stinks,'
The truth that she sees, taught her that there were people who once lived in this world. Helped her to keep her loneliness at bay.
The deeper she went, the deeper she realized that her wish was just a mere wish. But, by the time Latina began to lock her hope inside her heart again. She found a boy, lying down, looking at the sky with empty eyes. A boy that seems fragile, like he was ready to disappear at any moment.
Latina approached, reaching out to the boy's face.
"Hey,"
"Are you alive...?"
'Warm,'
Warm, a feeling of life force radiating from the boy. A feeling that hundred of years she's longing for, a feeling of hope. Slowly, tears began to build up in her eyes. At that moment, she knows, that she's saved from a hundred of years of long suffering.
The boy was Orion, he slept for half a year without a sign to wake up. With her magic, she nurse him, and then the moment of happiness came. Orion woke up, and then the day continue as it had. Her longing dream began, and the day she spent together with him become her treasure. She won't let him go, even in her sleep. She cherished him, her reason to live. Until that happens.
At the hill near the village, a girl stood, eyeing a village in front. Her eyes already lost their light, as if she's already lost her reason.
'I should've gotten rid of everything that could've made me lose him,'
'Tied him up, or destroying all obstacle-'
"AH!"
She gasps, realizing the thing that she was thinking. She hold her face with both of her hand and shouted.
"NO!"
"NOO!!"
Inside her head was in mess, for a moment, she lost her sanity.
'No, I should still hold onto my sanity,'
'For him, and myself,'
After a while, she began walking. She holds onto the little sanity that she has, encouraging her to went to the village. Took a step at the entrance, going to the village with her timid step. Looking around, as if searching for someone that can help her.
But the truth, what she saw was different. A normal village that the other days she went with Orion, the image of a bustling village was torn apart. A bird that flies, turns into an unknown creature, its cry slowly makes Latina crumble. Lucky for her that the way that she took was empty. But, one of the villagers that passed notice her and began approaching. Asking her if she was okay, but what Latina gave her was a look of wary.
'Stop, don't come any closer,....'
Fear can be seen inside her eyes. Her neck became wet, she was sweating. In her eyes, the person in front of her looked like a monster. Nothing like a human anymore, holding a basket full of unknown creatures.
"Haha,..."
Her voice shivered, and she chuckled.
'Or rather,....'
'I should kill it,....'
Her thought becomes wild, again, and for a moment she's lost. But her thought crumbled by the time the monster in front of her saying.
"A#K%#S#%MU##?"
Unrecognized, that's the only thing that she understands.
'What,...did I-'
Realizing that she can't handle it anymore, she started to run. She keeps running until she reaches deep inside the forest. With teary eyes, she's running deep into the woods.
'I will not,...'
'Turn to madness,....'
Without a single clue, she's walking. After a while, she began to lose her footing.
"!!"
Tripped upon a root. She stumbled and grazed her knees. Again, her eyes began tearing up. A droplet poured, wetting the ground before it. In her cry, she mumbled.
"...Orion,..."
"Where are you,....."
On the other side, Orion sitting on a giant bed with the girl. She holds Orion's hand with both of her hands, sound asleep facing Orion.
'Come to think of it, I still didn't know her name yet,' thought Orion.
All this time, the two of them had been playing. Orion, who woke up inside this castle, accompanied her playing to her heart's content until she asked him to accompany her to sleep.
'Please! I beg you, accompany me to sleep!'
With innocent eyes, she asked Orion, a man that just met not long ago with her to accompany her to sleep.
Remembering that, Orion can't help to be worried. She reminds him of Latina, the slim figure that frightened before entering the forest. Even though he ridicules her and makes a joke about it. That moment's still engraved into his brain. She said it was trauma, but what trauma can cause a long-lived witch like her to have trauma like that.
Her breathing can be heard clearly. A steady breath, with a smile on her face. Looking at that, a smile was carved on Orion's face.
'What a happy face,'
Gradually, the smile disappears. Tears began showing, wetting her closed eyes, and slowly poured onto the sheet.
'It seems she also has a lot of problems,....'
He closed his eyes, rubbing his hand as if to calm her down, and then let it go. Slowly, he stand up, turned his body toward the door, and get out of the room.
He walked, going through the corridor, exploring the big castle. In the middle of that, he found a human-sized doll, standing still in front of a certain room. There are no eyes and hair, with a tuxedo on its body.
He tried to get close to it when Orion inspected it, its head moved. Staring into Orion's eyes with its nonexistent eyes. As if asking what can he help Orion.
"Ex-Excuse me,...."
"Can you tell me where's the kitchen?"
With fluent movement, the doll turns around. Without further ado, Orion followed it. Along the way, a silent corridor that Orion knows is full of crackling noise.
'This castle is really big,'
With how big the castle is, Orion wonders how many workers at this place. But, his question didn't get the answer. The doll that leads him can't talk, and along the way, Orion only found more dolls in a variety sizes. He began to think that there was none besides that girl that can be called a living being in this castle.
'Ah, that's impossible,...'
He tried to think that it was impossible but, he know a certain girl that lived alone for hundred years. When he pondered about it, the doll in front of him halted. Noticing that, Orion also stopped, staring at the back of the doll and waiting.
Slowly, the body of the doll turned around, and then bend down with its hand pointing toward a room beside it.
'Is it pointing to the kitchen, I wonder,'
Orion opened the door and sees a big kitchen inside of it. A soft smile was carved on his face, and after a while, he turn around. Saying thank you to the doll, as if the doll was a person.
"Well, let's start then,"
He walked in and started to do his business there.
I've been dreaming, a dream where mom smiled. Playing with me all day, spending her time with me like always. A moment of bliss that I have. This dream started over and over, with the same beginning and the same ending. Liked by everyone, a figure of inspiration for children, and mom's proud daughter. A loop of happiness that momentarily fill the emptiness of my heart. But, the dream stopped. The caring smile mom gave, turned into an unrecognized expression. In mom's eyes, there's only fear inside of it. As if looking at something hideous. "Mom, it's me,...." I tried to have a conversation with her. But what I got was a shout of expulsion. "GO AWAY!" That day, the day I lost everything. I thought after that certain event when I came back to my hometown, people will swarming me and praised me. But, instead of gratitude. All I got was nothing but screaming. The people and the children that kind before, throwing stones at me. I closed my eyes, hoping that this nightmare will come to
The room was in mess with debris littering all over the place. From the hole, Latina came out. Shouting to the people in front of her with all her might."Give me back Orion!"Without thinking, she shoots magic from her hand. A ringing sound reverberated throughout the whole area, blasting the bedroom, and opening a big hole to the other side of her entrance. The two of them bounce by the after-effect, but before the person completely stands. Her eyes got blinded by Latina. Both of her eyes got slashed by magic."AAAAAAAAHH!"The girl screamed, writhing in pain. Red liquids gushed from both of her eyes, tainting her adorable face with crimson red. Both of her hands push her eyes, hoping that the action can relieve the pain a little. After that, with hand tainted with red. She reaches out her hand, searching for someone in her blindness."Orion,""Orion, where...... are you....?"Orion was stunned, watching the girl that happily playin
It was bright and sunny outside, the birds chirping all around the time making the atmosphere much more lively. Orion, still lying on the bed, moved a little. Bandage wrapped around his body, leaving his legs, arms, and head untouched. Before long, his eyes opened. The bright light that coming from the windows makes his eyes squint a little. On the side of the windows, there's a girl, sitting on a stool reading a book with contempt. Her back was facing the windows, and she was using natural light to brighten the book she was holding. Orion tried to move his body, trying to take a sit position. Noticing that, Latina helps him, holding him with her hand on his back, trying to support him. When he's comfortable enough with the position, Latina steps back, pulling her stool so she can get closers to him, and then says, "Good morning, Orion,""Yeah, morning,""Hows you feel, Orion?""Can't move my body, also my back feels itchy,"She's giggling, and says, "...Want me to scratch it?""You
In the morning, Orion is all geared up. Ready to do his routine each month like always."....you sure, Orion?"Latina came, asking for confirmation. With Alicia on her side, she goes after Orion in front of their house."Orion, I don't think you're well enough,..."The two of them worried for Orion, first of all, Orion was an ordinary human. He didn't have much power to protect himself against something unexpected like before. The unknown variable that didn't bother any of them made them worry. Orion is worried about the other two and vice versa. With a reassuring smile, Orion says, "Yes, as I said before, I can't stay cooped here and do nothing,""I see,.....""If you already made up your mind then, I can't do anything,""Just, stay safe, Orion," added Alicia.Hearing someone wishing him to stay safe puts a smile on his face. Over and over he reassures them that he will be okay. In the end, Latina and Alicia let h
"Speaking of Orion, are you sure he is a normal person?"In the middle of the tea time they were held, Alicia threw a question to Latina as they spoke. It's a normal question but, hard for Latina to answer."I don't know,""You don't know?"Latina nodded and said, "Yes,....""When we met, his condition other than dehydration was not that bad,""He's lying down, looking at the sky as if he was waiting for his end,""When I brought him to this house, he was in a coma for about six months,""After that, without prying about my past or condition, we lived together,....... It's like an unspeakable rule for us that we do not ask or pry into each other circumstances, that's all," said Latina."But,...."Deep inside, Alicia wants to know something about Orion but her words are stuck in her throat. Knowing the unspeakable rule that Latina mentioned, she can't muster herself to ask another question. Before Alicia continue her sentence, Latina cuts in and said, "You want to know why he didn't ge
The day passed by, it's been a week since that massacre happened. Orion, inside the house, behaves as if nothing happened. He is still the same old Orion who wakes up in the morning and does all the housework. But, sometimes, when he was alone. A cloud covers his eyes, leaves his consciousness, and drowns in the depths of the dark sea alone. This noon, after he ate lunch together with the others, he was heading out. He is walking to the path that leads him to nowhere inside the woods. Rays of light passing through the leaves decorate the path he takes with rustling sounds as his companion. Not long after that, he finally arrives at the place where his mind is set all this time. In the middle of the forest, there's a gallant tree that's much more huge than the one that at their house standing alone reigns its territory—blocking the bright sunlight with its leaves, leaving the open space it created covered in shadow. With easy steps, Orion walks in, approaching the tree with his eyes c
In the city where small lamps were gleaming, garnish the town with its light. A small girl, old enough to be admitted to middle school was running. She's gasping for breath, and she's running from her pursuer with her bare legs. "Hey! Stop you lil' rat!" On her back, a grown man is wearing a flat cap and suit with an overcoat. Even with his shout, everyone in the surroundings didn't show much care for the situation. They were only looking without showing any care and just walking. Using her small figure to her advantage, she forces her way through, leaving a big gap from her pursuer until her figures are fully immersed in the sea of people inside the shopping district. "Darn it! That lil'rat,""That rat's really quick on her feet," Given up, the man who pursued her walked away from the spot the girl was gone. Deep in the alley, on the ground using a card box as the pad, the girl sitting down hugging her knee with a l
I don't know how far I've been walking. These legs are dying as if when I stopped it will stop forever. My sight is clouded as well. Sometimes it feels like droplets of water have been touching my body. Is it raining today? I don't know. Walking, walking, walking, walking. That word keeps ringing out inside my head. Did I even have a head, to begin with? I don't know either. Did I? I began hallucinating, and my past memories have been flashed inside my head. I remember, there's a book or even some old man rumbling about their comrade that talking about their life flashed before their death. I don't know who it is but even if I tried to remember, it's just a vain attempt. So, is this what they called the dying reminisce? Even though it's an unpleasant memory, it still popped up out of nowhere. A certain memory that I hold dear but at the same time my misery. "Have you eaten yet?" Those are? My parent's voice? 'How bold of you to ask that to me in this situation, even though you'
