Chap 10 Training Space.

"Because you’re behind your friends. I’ll give you a free access to training space" According to what he learnt from old Nathan memories, one had to pay a decent amount to use a training space. Free training were available to military and gifted students only.

He wasn’t one, and he had to pay a decent sum to access a training space. Giving him free access to a training space was a huge favor.

"You’re too kind, Captain." Nathan felt that the young woman was being too generous to him. He couldn't help but feel grateful for her kindness, as it was rare for someone to offer free access to a training space, especially to someone like him who wasn't part of the military or a gifted student. Nathan wondered what had prompted her to be so generous toward him.

"There’s no problem. May I know which level you are?" Training spaces were virtual worlds where one would confront illusory monsters, mostly gouses of preferred levels.

This was critical because people were able to put their fears to the test and overcome them in a controlled environment. More importantly, they obtained energy and increased their strength by defeating these monsters.

People usually prefer monsters of a higher level than their own, but not too high as to be impossible to defeat. This way, they can challenge themselves and push their limits while still having a realistic chance of success. Additionally, facing stronger monsters allows them to gain more energy and experience points, accelerating their growth in the virtual world.

Selecting very weak monsters would make the training useless and uninteresting, as there would be no real challenge or opportunity for growth. It is important for players to find a balance between difficulty and feasibility in order to make their training sessions engaging and rewarding.

Moreover, selecting too much stronger monsters would not bring any benefit because the user stands to lose the most.

When Nathan heard that question, he became embarrassed and found it difficult to respond. He was 19, but his strength level was only ordinary level 1.

He rubbed the back of his head helplessly.

"Say it. Everything starts somewhere. Samantha encouraged Nathan after noticing his hesitation. "Besides, training and leveling up are all part of the journey. Don't worry about where you are now; focus on where you want to be."

"I’m only at ordinary level 2," Nathan said in an unnatural voice while forcing out a wry smile. He had decided to lie after some thought because Samantha would suspect something was wrong with him.

When Samantha heard his reply, her face darkened a little. A 19-year-old was supposed to be at least an ordinary level 5. She couldn't help but feel concerned for Nathan's progress. She wondered if there was something holding him back or if he simply needed more time to develop his skills. However, she didn't want to pry too much and decided to offer him some encouragement instead.

"No problem; just work hard and improve your skills. With powerful skills, you might stand a chance to defeat stronger opponents." A wry smile appeared on her face.

Nathan's strength was too low to compete with others in the competition; she just wanted to give him some hope and motivate him to keep pushing forward.

She then pushed her thumb against a door monitor. Her thumb was scanned, and access was granted. Following that, settings and options were displayed.

In this world, everyone was chipped at birth. The chips stored and accessed one's data, including person details. The door monitor was a security measure implemented to ensure that only authorized individuals could enter. It was a seamless integration of technology into everyday life, providing convenience and efficiency. With a simple scan of her thumb, she was able to navigate through the system effortlessly, making adjustments as needed. The reliance on these chips had become second nature, streamlining processes and enhancing personal identification in a world driven by data.

To pay, register, or access certain areas, one had to use their chip for verification, just by getting their fingerprint scanned. It was a convenient and secure system that ensured everyone's identity and transactions were accounted for.

She made a few clicks and was done. The door slid open, making a soft whooshing sound as it revealed the brightly only pitch black on the other side.

"I will see you in 5 days. Have a nice training." After saying that, she left, leaving him surprised.

‘so I stay there for five days?’ Staying longer in a training space was a good thing, but he wondered if it was really good for him considering that he had lied about his strength. He was going to encounter monsters far above his level, and while he couldn't really die, he was going to suffer greatly. Besides, instead of real death, he might face virtual death, which felt just like real death, with all the pain and consequences that came with it.

Speaking of food and water, anything found in the virtual world could be eaten and drunk, but once he left the training space, the illusory food and drink would vanish from his stomach, leaving him hungry and thirsty. It was a good idea to prepare food and water in advance, ensuring that he would have sustenance upon exiting the virtual realm. Some would take the food in.

He stepped in, and the door behind him closed itself with a soft whooshing sound, sealing him inside the training space.

At first, he was in total darkness, and then the scenario abruptly changed to a dense forest with towering trees and thick undergrowth. The air was filled with the sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves, creating an immersive experience.

Even though he was scared, he began wandering around, hunting for the monsters that were programmed to appear in the virtual forest. Anyway, if he didn't, then what was the point of getting into the space in the first place? Moreover, if he wasn't going to hunt, then he was going to be hunted.

As he cautiously moved through the dense foliage, his heart raced with anticipation, knowing that every step could bring him face-to-face with a formidable adversary. The adrenaline coursing through his veins fueled his determination to conquer the challenges that awaited him in this virtual realm.

Suddenly, a bunch of gouses appeared coming in front; there were five of them. The moment they saw him, they rushed at him with a ferocity that sent a surge of panic through his body.

He shivered, and his face turned deathly pale out of fear. It was his first time encountering gouses, and their aggressive behavior caught him off guard. He completely forgot that it wasn't real; anyway, it felt just like real.

There was no difference.
