Throughout the day at school, the embarrassment from the classroom incident lingered in my mind. Alex had been a silent observer, and his embarrassment was evident as well. I knew it wasn't his fault, but I couldn't help feeling responsible for the awkward situation.
I shouldn’t have tried to measure with them in the first place. They are way out of my league and I just couldn’t fit myself in their shoes. Living a fake life isn’t what I wanted for myself.
As I returned to our apartment, I decided to retreat to my room, jump on my bed, and reflect on the events of the day. The memory of being laughed at by my classmates weighed heavily on my mind. I replayed the scene repeatedly, my face reddening with humiliation.
I couldn't help but consider my father's advice, which had always encouraged me to stand my ground and never be ashamed of my background. It was as if he had foreseen such a situation, speaking from experience.
Now that my truth was out in the open, I couldn't help but wonder about the consequences. I knew that people would likely talk about it, and I had to prepare myself for the inevitable conversations and judgments.
Still lying on my bed, I pondered the situation. I couldn't deny my background, but I was torn between maintaining my authenticity and fitting into a world that felt alien. I couldn't bring myself to pretend to be someone I wasn't.
I heard the door open, signaling Alex's return. He entered the room, his expression still clouded with disappointment.
"Come on, man, what was that in school today? Why did you say all of that?" Alex asked, his frustration evident.
"I spoke the truth. I didn't think you wanted me to lie. What's the point of concealing the truth when they'll eventually find out?" I replied, defending my honesty.
"What makes you think anyone would find out? Nobody cares about that, no one gives a damn. Just go with the flow. You only get one shot at this, and you've just blown it," he scolded.
"I'm just not comfortable living a fake life. It won't help me. What if my benefactor is out there, and here I am pretending to be someone I'm not? I don't want to disguise myself for my own gain," I reasoned, my voice unwavering.
"You told me to be open with others to make friends, and that's what I was trying to do," I added, trying to explain my perspective. “I just taught it’s better I let it all out instead of claiming to be someone I’m not. Because whether you like it or not, truth always have a way of coming out.”
Alex sighed, seemingly relenting, "Not everyone will like you for who you are. Not everyone is as accepting as I am in this place. If you want to navigate this world, you need to meet people at their level."
“This has nothing to do with living a fake life but if you’re gonna be staying in this place, it’s necessary for you to be like us and that’s what I’m trying to do for you.” He said and I also see his point as well.
He continued, "Not only did you embarrass me out there today, you made me look foolish in front of everyone. I'm starting to question whether I made a mistake." With that, he turned and left, leaving me deep in thought about the choices I had made.
Writer’s Perspective
Bella, Angelica, Sophie, and Ella were having a conversation about love. Bella, excitedly shared her recent encounter with a guy from their class. she expressed her interest and attraction to him leading her friends to tease her.
“Wow, seems like you like this guy already” Angelica said as they walked into their apartment.
“That’s no secret. You can see how she keeps smiling all the way home.” Sophie added and Bella blushed.
“You can’t blame me for liking him. He’s so handsome and dress so cute. You guys are just jealous and that’s it.” Bella said pouting like a child and jumped on the couch.
“Jealous? Seriously? You’re out of your mind. I don’t know about Sophie and Ella but I’m not ready to jump into another relationship.” Angelica said rolling her eyes.
“Who’s asking you to jump into another relationship. Having a fling isn’t a bad idea. I’m sure the guys at school are willing.” Bella said winking at her.
“Is that what you’re doing? having a fling?” Sophie jumped in.
“Of course. I’m not ready to get committed with anyone, so, I made it a temporary thing where no one get hurt” Bella replied.
“I don’t know about you guys, but I want to experience love. I want a man to love me and I want a love that will consume me. I want that kind of love.” Angelica admitted her desire but her friends couldn’t help but chuckle at her romantic notions.
“You’re dreaming girl. You better wake up.” Sophie said amidst laughter then patted her on the shoulder. “That kind of things only happen in movie not in the real world.” She added.
“Seriously girl, you need to stop having that mentality if you ever want to end up with any man. No man is capable of love, not in this world. Open your eyes girl and try to have as much fun as you want.” Bella also said.
Angelica nodded disappointedly to what her friends said and she doesn’t want to believe what her friend just said, then she turned to Ella. She said “What about you? What have you got to say?”
“I don’t want to support what they’re saying because I also want what you want. I think we all do but they are right, I don’t think it’s possible” Ella said.
“I’ve fallen in love before, twice actually, and I’ve gotten my heart broken, twice. I’ve realized all they wanted from me was my father’s money and of course sex.” She narrated.
“You want to know the reason they gave for breaking up with me? The first one said he realized that I’m a dog person and he’s more of a cat person so it’s not going to work out.” She said which cause a laughter among them.
“That guy must be a bastard. What kind of stupid excuse was that?” Sophie said as they laughed.
“The second guy told me our love was like bungee jumping. Exciting at first, but he needs something more stable in his life.” Ella continued causing another roar of laughter.
“I really hated this second guys because I really thought he was the one, and I did everything for him. He used me like some trash to be used and thrown away. Which is why I’m never going to love anyone again.”
“You’ve also fallen in love before, right? Do you see what happened?” She said which seems to stir an emotion from her.
“Oh no, that guy is a jerk. I should’ve seen that coming? That was my fault.” Angelica said.
“But it did happen, didn’t it? The idiot broke up with you with a letter. I mean who the hell even write a letter in this century? A breakup letters.” Ella said which cause them to laugh.
“I told you he’s a jerk.” Angelica commented as she smiles.
“I think love is overrated so don’t go searching for something that’s not true or you’ll be scammed.” Ella concluded.
“Listen girl, I’ll suggest find a nice guy and have fun together. There’s no harm in that. Just don’t let it be too serious with anyone. You’re in school and you deserve to have fun.” Sophie advice.
“I hear you” Angelica replied.
Peter’s PerspectiveOver the course of the following days, I found myself subjected to a relentless stream of humiliation, a relentless barrage facilitated by Sean and his cohort of friends. Not a single day passed without them partaking in the merciless derision that was now my daily routine. They even came up with a cruel nickname for me, "Peter Poorman," mocking my family's financial situation. Their actions impaired my ability to concentrate during class, inhibiting my capacity to exercise my true academic prowess. In their eyes, I had been reduced to a student devoid of any noteworthy qualities, one who seemed out of place in an institution as esteemed as our college.I was profoundly isolated within the classroom, bereft of friends. Even my closest companion, Alex, maintained a deliberate distance from me in public settings to avoid being labeled an outcast by our peers.Despite the agony I experienced, I clung to the hope that their childish behavior would eventually wane, and
Writer's PerspectiveAfter arriving home, Angelica was joined by her friends who had walked back to their apartment together. Their conversation revolved around the events that had transpired in their class."I never expected any of that. I was completely taken by surprise, and she just embarrassed us all. Who is she anyway?" Sophie asked as they entered the apartment.Ella, with a determined look on her face, declared, "I will find out who she is and get back at her. No one disrespects the Gaga girls and gets away with it."Angelica, however, offered a different perspective. She cautioned her friends, "We need to stop this harassment. Even if others are doing it, we shouldn't. We should strive to make a difference and not join in on torment and criticism."Ella questioned Angelica's intentions, "What are you talking about? I thought you had a plan when you were defending him in class. I assumed you had a motive behind all of that. Are you under his spell too?"Angelica defended her a
**Peter’s Perspective** The next day, I headed to class alone, and as soon as I walked in, all eyes were on me. It was clear that everyone was still talking about what happened yesterday. Honestly, I wasn't too keen on coming to school today. That's why I slept in later than usual and initially told Alex to go ahead without me. But then, I had a change of heart. Taking a deep breath, I walked to the backseat, ignoring the curious glances. Surprisingly, even Sean and his gang stayed silent. It was incredible how the brave move from the girl who stood up for me yesterday shut everyone up. I took my seat just in time for the lecture to begin. Scanning the room, I spotted my mysterious defender sitting at the front. I wondered who she was and thought I should probably thank her for what she did. Glancing towards Angelica’s seat, who smiled brightly at me. My heart skipped a beat, ‘Oh my God! She smiled at me’ I don’t know how t react to that, so, all I could do was smile back. The l
Writer’s Perspective"I seriously can't believe that," Sophie exclaimed, turning to Angelica. "You never mentioned Sean asking you out."The four girls were discussing the fallout of Amy embarrassing Sean in front of the entire class."Sean's not the only one who's hit on me. I didn't see the need to tell anyone or see it as a big deal. Besides, I don't ask each of you how many guys have asked you out," Angelica responded."Sean is different, though. His dad is one of the school's funders. You should've told us he made a move on you," Bella insisted."I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. He's not my type, and to avoid embarrassing him, I decided to keep quiet, turns out it came out anyways." Angelica explained."But if you didn't tell anyone, how did that girl know about it?" Bella asked, mirroring the confusion of the group."I don't know how she knows because I definitely didn't mention it to anyone," Angelica replied."Who is that girl? She's been nothing but trouble since s
Writer’s perspectiveA few days later, Sophie entered Angelica's room, ready to invite her for a walk and for some shopping across town. However, she found Angelica engrossed in her phone, sending messages with an unusual level of seriousness."Hey, you can go without me. I'm in the middle of something right now," Angelica replied, focused on her phone. Sophie found this strange, not just because she declined but because of the intense attention she was giving her phone, with message chimes echoing continuously."What could you be doing on the phone for so long? You've been on it since morning," Sophie questioned curiously. "I thought we agreed to go together?" she added."Sorry, maybe some other time," Angelica apologized, continuing to text on her phone."Okay, see you soon," Sophie replied as she left Angelica alone in the room."Is she coming?" Ella asked as Sophie emerged from her room."No, she's not. I think Angelica has found herself a guy. The way she was smiling and giggling
Peter’s Perspective.I exited Amy’s dorm after concluding a productive study session with her. These sessions have proven to be incredibly beneficial for both of us, as we were able to cover lots of topics.Considering the imminent exam in a few weeks. We are quite confident that we will ace the exam, given the necessary preparation we have undertaken. This is the feeling have always wanted since I got here, and it is all thanks to Amy. I’m genuinely grateful to have met her.She has been my angel in this place because without her, I don’t know what would’ve happened to me or how I would’ve turned out. She has always been looking out for me.It’s kind of funny to have a girl looking out for you. It made me look vulnerable to other. But at the moment, I have no other choice, I need to have her by my side for the time being until I’m sure everything is going alright.perhaps this is the breakthrough I need to bring honor to my family and break free from the curse that has haunted us. Writer's perspective,Angelica chose to express her openness and freedom around Peter in public, indifferent to the opinions of others, including her friends. As soon as the day's lecture concluded, she rose from her seat and casually approached Peter, who was engaged in a quiet conversation with Amy. "Hi," she greeted, waving at him.Surprised by her boldness, Peter smiled back. "Hi, Angelica. How are you?" he asked, his smile reflecting his surprise."I'm fine. Umm, can I talk to you for a second?" she said, catching Peter off guard wondering what she wanted to talk about. He agreed, turning to Amy and apologizing for a momentary interruption, to which Amy nonchalantly replied, "It's okay, go on."Amy, taken aback by Angelica's uncharacteristic forwardness, which she hasn’t done before and Amy couldn't help but feel suspicious. Angelica has always been in the circle of her three friends, and Amy knew the kind of people they are.Amy didn’t trust her intentions. Despite Peter sharing
Peter’s perspective. When I assured Alex that having a girl in the house with us wouldn’t be a bad thing, I think I may have underestimated the negative impact Sandra’s presence would have on me.My regret keeps growing every day when I remember the day, I told her she’s welcome to stay as long as she wanted because, at this moment, I find myself wishing she would leave. However, expressing this is proving to be a challenge.Since Sandra moved into the dorm, it’s been a trying experience for me. Alex doesn't seem to notice any issues, but her behavior is affecting me, especially on a sexual level.Sandra has been flaunting skimpy outfits around the apartment; I noticed she has been doing this a lot, especially when Alex and I are together in the living room. She would just walk in wearing a tight tank top and boy shorts.Sometimes she would even call my attention to it and say, “Oh Peter, I didn’t know you were there! Well, I hope it’s not a problem wearing this around you.”She would
