Chapter 9: Formations

The book is divided into three parts; low level, mid-level, and high level. The low-level part is for beginners, and from the description, mid and high levels are out of my reach for now.

I should concentrate on the low-level part of the book, which is meant for beginners like me, or I may become brain-dead if I try to read the levels which aren’t meant for me.

As I got immersed in these two books, time flew by. Nine more days were gone before I even got to start my meditation to become a magician. That means I have twenty more days to become a magician and learn a skill to perform on recruitment day.

This made Thomas and Mary worry about me. They only calmed down after my assurance that everything would be fine. I know they only appeared to be calm, but their hearts were not.

During these nine days, I used the points to increase my Essence and Intellect while trying to understand the magical formation. Yes, Essence stopped increasing after reaching the value of nine.

I solely used the remaining forty points, acquired from eight days, to increase my intellect. Of course, I didn’t forget my daily exercises, which increased my strength and stamina by a point each.

The surprise is the increase in my Health Points by two. Hmm, I never such a thing happened before. In all books I read about body stats and how to improve, there was never mention of this effect. Maybe no one observed this, but how could so many researchers miss this?

There is something amiss here, but I don’t have time to search for answers for now.

Nine days, it took fucking nine days to finally understand the damn magical formation used for breaking through levels.

Well, , whatever is done is done. I think I should make the formation and start on my path.

For this, I need some magic cores, which I believe are in the basement. The second material is the Ink to draw these runes. The book said that the Tarro Ink is rare and not easily obtainable.

Is it the same Ink they are talking about? Tarro Ink, though not cheap, there is no scarce of it. Maybe it was in the era when those ancients lived.

I went downstairs and asked Thomas to bring a small can of Tarro Ink. He immediately went out without asking any questions.

After giving the task of getting Tarro Ink to Thomas, I went into the basement to get the magic cores.

It took half an hour for Thomas to return with the Ink. I grabbed the Ink and went upstairs to my room.

First, there should be no obstructions to the formation and need good space. I adjusted my bedroom so that the space by the window was clear.

The formation appears simple, but it’s complex at the same time.

It contains two main circles and a five-pointed star.

The circles are drawn as a wheel, i.e., one circle is inside of another. The five-pointed star is circumscribed by the Inner circle. The star should be big enough depending on the number of people meditating inside.

On the vertices, inside both circles, a rune is drawn; the symbol of the element for which the person meditates inside has an affinity. This was done so it would be beneficial for the magician with the said element.

For general use, it could be left vacant. It can be used by any magician with any affinity.

There are few words in the runic language; their purpose may be similar to the satellites and orbit of the magic crystal inside a magician.

Since my affinity is the Ice element, I drew the rune for Ice so that only ice magic will be drawn towards me, and I don’t need to stress much.

When a magician meditates, the energy of every element around him converges towards him. He can’t store the energy of elements he has no affinity to. If he tried to do that, he would have to face many dangers.

For one, if the magician has a fire affinity and if he absorbs and stores the energy of Ice or water elements, which are considered the opposite of fire, there would be a huge backlash. His magic efficiency decreases, and there may be a chance of losing to use magic forever.

Though this most likely happens when two polar opposite energies meet. The effect will be less for some, while some cause a lot of damage.

One may think that a fire magician can absorb wood element energy as wood burns, and it may grant us more power. It does, but it would be disastrous if the magician’s body couldn’t handle a sudden surge of power.

So magicians has to eject other elements and absorb only their affinity element. By this formation, that workload is lifted off my shoulders.

I drew the formation suitable for me and placed the level-1 magic cores inside the circles. The cores are from Ice affinity beasts. However, the cores didn’t need to be of a specific element; they give extra benefits to the magician with the same affinity.

These cores act as start and stop buttons for the formation. The cores act as switches back on earth. When placed at vertices, they complete the circuit, and when removed, the circuit breaks, thereby stopping the formation.

In addition, to being the start and stop buttons, the energy inside the cores is required to trigger the formation.

When the cores are placed on the vertices of the five-pointed star, the formation begins its work and draws energy from surroundings.

To start, some energy from the cores is required. Once it starts it becomes self-sufficient, using the surrounding energy to work.

Once I was done, I hung a board outside my door with the words DON’T DISTURB, MEDITATING written on it. When Mary or Thomas sees that, they will go on without disturbing me.

Now that everything is prepared, it’s time for me to become a magician.
