Chapter 6

As Lucian moved behind Kevin and Adam, the alarm rang, "Bzzzt Bzzzt Bzzzt."

"What's going on, and what's that noise?" the sound pained Lucian's ears, he inquired as to what was causing it.

"That is the emergency alarm sound and It appears there is a problem," Adam said to Kevin. This alarm signified they were being summoned to the parade as Rhombus' guardians army.

As they began to sprint with Lucian to the ground the rest of Rhombus's residents fled in a flurry to safety.

Kevin said, "Yes, we have to report to parade asap."

Soon, Lucian saw others dressed in the Guardian uniform coming out of their apartment to join them on their way to the parade.

The light azure sky was painted by the frosty sky. Snowflakes, or little white specks as they were known to man, swayed in the breeze, slowly dismounting and gilding the soil with their magnificent beauty.

As the grains collided with the dirt, a chaotic display of snowy avalanches erupted into the frigid atmosphere, producing a spectacular landscape unlike any other.

“Rustle” “Rustle” "Rustle," "Rustle," "Rustle," "Rustle," "Rustle,"

Zooming in on a slight sound heard in this avalanche exhibition, five powerful, well-armed men stroll across the ice as if in pursuit of a mystery, ascending towards the parade, each with their own weapons.

Lucian was left behind the group; he was the youngest and weakest of the men, and he had never experienced anything like this before, as he struggled to move his half-frozen feet, striding forward.

A deep sense of resolve reflected in his eyes as he pushed against the hard wind.

Behind the others, Lucian found himself in his thought. He imagined back to the words of his grandma a long time ago.

" It is now your duty to bring honor to this family, I shall be your mentor. Your father went on scouts when he was your age and then returned. Even though it was no simple task for him, but you're a tough young man that I raised, so I'm confident you'll succeed and make me proud my boy. Do you think you'll be able to handle it?" .

They finally arrived at the Guardian army parade as this cut Lucian off his thought.

A man in black approached Lucian and stood next him, disregarding the strange stares of Lucian.

"Since you've all gathered, ladies and gentlemen, I suppose I'll tell you what you need to know . The blue dragon has taken over Planet Sharnok. If Sharnok is seized, the capital will be the next target. Rhombus must be defended at any costs. You've been training for this, and you'll be moved right away.

." Lucian could tell this was the commander as he spoke in harsh voice alone while everyone was silent.

"Nonetheless, even for me, it wont be no simple task, but you're a tough young man that I trained, so I'm confident you'll succeed. Then go, make me proud, show the rest of Rhombus that you are worthy of being the next guardian, to carry the honor of the forefathers and this great country. As a result, you will be immediately separated into subgroups, is that clear?" The commander addressed the assembled guardians.

"Yes, sir," The multitude of guardians all responded at the same time.

Immediately, the commander began separating the guardians randomly to subgroup till it got to Lucian turn.

"You, join that group," the commander instructed him.

Lucian was separated from Kevin and Adam and placed in a group. He had no idea what was going on and merely attempted to fit in.

"Look behind you; these are your helpers"

"Would you mind introducing yourselves, gentlemen?"

"I am Nick Kesdan,"

"Franklin blak."

"Johnson Crimson "

"Make the noise louder." The commander said before Lucian could introduce himself.

"All right, you, take this orb; it is a relic as well as a symbol of Rhombus; you will find it handy in times of need; keep it with you at all times; never lose it, do you understand?" The commander enquired.

"Yes sir," Lucian said.

.......

"Boy....hurry up, we have to get there before dusk,"

A gruff voice rang in Lucian's ears as he walked barefoot on the frozen ground, engrossed in his fantasy. Getting in the way of his thinking. He shifted his gaze ahead of him in order to observe the speaker.

A two-meter-tall, muscular figure dressed in red armor made of scales. As he glanced back at Lucian, the man wrinkled his handsome face with a long beard.

"As you wish, sir Franklin ," Lucian remarked nattily, forcing his legs to stride even faster, grateful for the reminder that his thoughts had delayed his speed.

"Don't you think you're being a little harsh on the boy, after all, he's new to this?" He was bright reddish and one of the walking men, neither tall nor short, with a built body. While remarking, he laid his palm on Franklin's shoulders.

"What do you know, the young lord is twenty, he isn't a child, these walks shouldn't be difficult for him." Franklin breath became heated as he spoke quickly.

"Shouldn't?" "Try descending to the depths of hell and bringing me the head of an underworld devil to grasp his dilemma." Racket, dissatisfied with Franklin's innuendo, used an example to demonstrate his argument.

Lucian shook his head in frustration and helplessness, these two were at it again, an endless debate stemming from their rivalry over who was the better hunter. However, this did not mean that the two were enemies, rather, they were life and death companions who banded together with a strong brotherly bond.

On their way here, he got to know everyone in this lineup, especially these two, who, whenever they pick a topic to argue about, it always ends in a long time. It made the journey more interesting, but no one can deny that the frequent disruption irritated some people. Fortunately, it didn't last long this time thanks to a hero who saved the day.

"Shut up, you two arguing morons, the clock is ticking, and we don't have time to waste." In front of them, Nick Kesdan, a short man with a nice beard and mustache, reprimanded.

This man is known by Lucian to be a lively, war crazy, and a heroic fellow who is way too daring. If jumping into the fire is what is needed of him, he will do it. Nothing Lucian had seen had caused this man to pause.

"hoy, you Kesdan oxen man, I know what you're up to; you're saying this to make yourself look bigger..."

"Enough with the phrases!! Look ahead; the entrance to the blue dragon layer is right in front of us right now." Looking forward, an elderly guy with gray hair and a beard clamored, his wrinkled face pinched in a deep frown. Adam Chris, also known as old man Adam by the group.

The only thing Lucian knew about this elderly man was that he was usually serious and to the point, and that no one in the group ever messed with him since he was their leader and they feared him.

The men stiffened as they listened to old man Adam each drawing their weapon and putting on an alarmed semblance, slowly ambling along the avalanche's challenging snow surface.

Lucian pulled his blade and turned to face the old man, who stood in front of a massive, dark, majestic cave entrance.

" it's time I confront the dragon, it's time !!!," Lucian declared.

"Mark my words, men: we will march in silently, barely making a baby sound, so as not to arouse the beast from its slumber." We'll do whatever it takes to slaughter the dragon after we've accomplished that task, and ideally, we'll bring back a dragon head to Rhombus as a damn trophy."

The elderly guy informed everyone of the plan at the time, when they were all prepared and ready to enter the cave's entrance.

As they followed the old guy inside the cave, Lucian and the other men all nodded.

Moving through the dark dragon tier, the guys took great care not to arouse the sleeping entity.

A slight sound of heavy, rhythmic breathing tormented their ears as they marched, putting strain on their hearts. The men toiled in silence, cautiously edging closer to the creature on a rough and strewn floor in the dark.

The closer they got to the monster, the louder its breathings became, which should have made them nervous, but the group kept their hearts steady, enduring the agony until it eventually appeared in front of them. A massive sleeping blue dragon was a monstrosity in and of itself.

The group noticed more than its hue; they saw its sharp, awful fangs concealed behind a crack in its wide lips as it panted loudly, its horns that poked out from its forehead, and its barely visible talons beneath its gigantic body.

"Bring out your tearing chains, the three of you; we're going to bind it and hold it down so the young lord has an easy death."

"But, what..." Johnson questioned, unable to understand the concept.

"Do as I say," With a strong command, old man turned him off.

With no other questions asked, the rest of them took out the chains, understanding the old man's determination. Lucian, on the other hand, tightened his grasp on the sword in his hand as he inhaled deeply, knowing that once the old man and the other four men had kept the dragon in place, it would be his chance to act.

Lucian stood there quietly watching as the four soldiers stretched out and ringed the dragon, each clutching their chains with long hooks.

The men targeted the hooks at the dragon's limbs with their right arms, which drew back to their behinds, building up enough force to fling them to the dragon's limbs.

“whoosh!” “whoosh!” “whoosh!” “whoosh!”

The soldiers lost their grasp on the hooks at the same instant, and the hooks grab into the dragon's body, through its blue scales and entering its flesh. Soon after, a deafening raw erupted from the dragon's jaws, audible even outside the dragon layer.

"How dare you intrude, insects!"

The resonance of the howl shook the entire dragon tier.

"Pull! The beast is awake!" Begin the biding incantation magic spell to weaken it by pulling its limbs apart so it won't be able to move properly." In a frenzy of joy, Old man Adam shouted to the other men. When the dragon awoke, the old man did.

The dragon pulled from the ground and flicked its wings, striving ferociously in a whole rampage to free itself from the ants that had assaulted it after sending out the roar. It couldn't get rid of the bonds, let alone destroy them, despite its efforts.

The chains did not appear to be constructed of common materials. Lucian stared at the beast, whirling and tossing about, bearing its teeth,

swinging its tail, and swinging its talons at the group of men pulling all of its limbs from four directions, preventing its strikes from reaching their bodies. His hands remained gripped on his sword as he waited for the time to pass and for them to finish casting the magic spell.

The monster could no longer correct it; it was insufficiently hurt as a result of its struggle with the hooks, and its pride was destroyed.

When it opened its maw, a thunderclap boomed and lightning flashed from within.

Lucian had a tranquil heart. A voice came to his ears just as the dragon let out its breath, putting him at peace even more.

" Let go of the spell."

The old man howled.

Before the dragon could breathe out energy from its innards, a bluish transparent barrier formed from the chains, enclosing it.
