Dark Weapon Book One: Time of Bombing

Chapter 7

Philips, oblivious of the fact that his entire family had been murdered, ran into the State CIA and began to rant out everything he knew about the incident. He as then directed to the Captain of the CIA agents who happened to be George’s son. He was an upright CIA who always worked with facts and the truth. And he was ready to help the friend of his Father.

 “Here, this is Elisa’s number, but someone that calls herself Nada called me with it and said some things I didn’t really understand” Philips said 

“What were these things you said you didn’t understand” Adan asked

“Something about three years ago, but that’s not important right now. I need you to save my wife because this Nada said they already killed Thelma” Philips said quivering a little

“I know what to do with this” Adan said as he took the phone from Philips

“Get the agents ready and get SWAT to come along too!” he ordered as he walked into his office with Philips phone

Adan dialed Elisa’s number and it was answered on the second ring.

“Adan Robertson, you’ve got some nerves calling” the receiver said into the phone

Adan was surprised that the person knew who he was and why he was calling. He began to look around the office, wondering if someone was there besides him and his team.

“No, don’t look around Adan, the caller said surprising intelligence even more. I’ll speak on behalf of the 5” she added

“Tell Philips to get home as quickly as possible or else vultures are gonna finish up the packages we left him” the receiver said

“Who are you and what do you want?” Adan asked

“Me? I’m the leader of 5. My name is Nada and I want the blood of the people that were murdered unjustly three years ago. That’s all” Nada replied

“Where is General Philips family?” Adan asked

“Well, Philips is the only one that is left to meet his ancestors. Tell him that Elisa and Thelma and bored on the other side without him” Nada replied

“And if Intelligence is really intelligent, I dare you to find us within 2 hours. Or else Adan Robertson give up now” Nada said and ended the call

“Did you get anything? Any signal at all?” Adan asked

“Yes boss, she talked for long so we found her out” Stephany said smiling

“Where are they then?” Adan asked

“At an abandoned building near the border” Stephany answered

“Inform General Philips and let’s get going” Adan ordered as they all left the office

Nada dropped the phone down and smiled to herself. In front of her were several monitors connected to cameras in different places. That explained how she was able to know who was calling and where he was calling from. She had given him two hours to find her but she was going to take her time and watch them strive hard to find her because she knew, it wasn’t going to be possible.   

“I think we should leave” Mini said

“Has Elisa been delivered?” Nada asked

“Yeah, it was easier than that of Thelma” Fae said while Nebula elbowed her

“Intelligence is on their way and here is what you asked for” Blesse said handing a briefcase to Nada

“Thanks. You all can go your separate ways now. I’ll contact you when it is time for the next target” Nada said as they left

“Come on Phillips, time to get a dose of your own medicine” Nada thought grinning

After five hours had passed, Adan was able to locate the abandoned building and was stationing his men around the building. Some in the bushes, some snipers miles away from the building and others on standby as backup.

“The device says the abductor is in the tenth floor boss” Stephany said

“Good. You heard him sniper team, get ready” Adan said

“Yes captain” they chorused

“Want to test intelligence huh?” Adan thought

His phone rang and he signaled for everyone to keep shut

“Adan Robertson, have you arrived? I won’t show myself though until you come to the eight floor not the tenth as your boy said. But you are coming with that son-of-a-bitch Philips” Nada said

“Do you think you can fool me huh?” Adan asked

“I want you to catch me Adan, it’s either you do that or every one of you dies. I don’t give a damn about innocent blood if you haven’t noticed” Nada answered

“Okay, just me and Philips, but I assure you that you’d pay for this” Adan said

“That cell phone; you might as well throw it high in the sky if you don’t wanna die” Nada said

Just then the cell phone in Adan’s hand began to tick and he realized that it was about to explode. He threw it high in the air just in time before it went off.

“Sniper teams get ready. Fredrick stay on alert” Adan spoke into his walky-talky

“Philips, she wants you to come in with me” Adan informed

“Okay, let’s take this to hell then” Philips said as he and Adan walked into the building.

“Nada! Show yourself!” Philips shouted to the amazement of Adan as they got to the eighth floor. When on a mission like the one they were involved in, it was basic protocol to be silent so as to grab the slightest movement of the enemy. He wondered if Philips wasn’t once an Officer.

“You really lack artfulness Adan” Nada said

“Do you really think I’m in the eighth floor, huh? Come down to the fifth and see me” she added

“You really must be shivering in your shells to be moving from one floor to the other” Philips said

“You should have thought about the miserable way I’d make you die before you killed Thelma and Elisa” he added

“Oh! Your wife was a beauty, too bad she ended up with a low-life like you. Adan, I said fifth floor” Nada said as they moved away

“There you are” Nada said from the shadows as they walked in

“Who are you?” Adan asked

“I already answered that before. I’m Nada by name, lollipop” she answered

“What do you want then, Nada?” Adan asked as he brought out his gun from his back pocket

“Ask that thing behind you what it is I want. He knows the answer” she said, referring to Philips

“Philips. Is this correct?” Adan asked

“Shut the hell up Robertson. Do you believe what this psychotic killing machine says?” Philips asked

“Psychotic killing machine? Yeah, that’s what you turned us into Phillips” she said

“Finish her off” Phillips said to Adan

“Oh sweetie, you don’t think those guns are gonna stop me huh?” Nada asked as she stepped out of the shadows. She was putting on a mask that only covered her nose and mouth

Just her eyes were left open. Adan was rooted to the spot when he saw Nada’s eyes.

“Adan for goodness sake what are you doing?” Philips asked

Suddenly guns shots were heard outside.

“What was that?” Adan spoke into his radio but didn’t get any response

“Oh, don’t be too surprised Adan. I heard you’ve got a sniper team so I called mine too. They consist of two dreamy girls” Nada said grinning through the mask

Nada snatched the gun from Adan’s hand so fast he didn’t know when she did. Pointing it at him, she ordered him to put his hands up. With the gun now in her hands he surrendered suddenly getting the chills. She looked like someone who’d kill no matter what.

“I warned you, didn’t I, darling?” Nada said

“If you don’t find me within two hours give up. But you didn’t. It’s been 5 hours already” she added as she raised her wrist watch up

“Phillips, three years ago you connived to murder the three hundred and fifty five youngsters that were placed in your care for the position of Army General. I’m sorry but that position isn’t for you because we did not all die. So I guess during Remembrance Day they should say three hundred and fifty instead of three hundred and fifty five, right?” Nada stated

Philips knew what she was talking about. He looked around and that was when he remembered that the abandoned building was formerly the training center.

“What are you talking about?” Phillips asked. If he wanted to survive, all he had to do was feign ignorance 

He took his hand behind him and tried to take out his gun. Adan saw this and knew Nada didn’t notice it. He quickly pushed Phillips and took his gun from him. He pointed the gun at Nada with all seriousness now.

“Are you getting revenge? Is that why you had to kill his wife and child whom were innocent?” Adan asked

“Yes” Nada replied as she too pointed her gun at him

“This is not the way. The law can give revenge” Adan said

“What the hell are you talking about Robertson? What do you mean the law?” Phillips asked

“The law?” Nada asked

“You are the law, and you almost sided with this moron here if you didn’t learn of the reason why I’m doing all this, love” Nada said

“I don’t go by the law. But you know what else goes faster than the law?” she asked

“A bullet” she said

“Just end it here. You have already killed two people so you would be serving life. End it. Please” Adan said

“No sugar. I’m just getting started. Time to send you to your ancestors Philips” Nada said

“And Adan honey. You can run if you don’t wanna die” she added before she jumped out of the window

“What the hell!” Adan exclaimed as he looked out of the window but couldn’t find her.

“Where did she go?” Adan asked no one in particular. A shot was heard and Philips fell.

 “Adan! Help!” Philips screamed and they suddenly heard ticking sounds coming from all directions.

“Evacuate this property. The whole building is filled with bombs” Adan yelled into his walky-talky as he began to run out of the building completely forgetting about Philips. Whoever it was that shot him aimed for his leg so he wouldn’t be able to run away. Just as he took part in blowing up the trainees they wanted him to become blown up.

“Where the hell are you going? No I can’t die like this. No!” Phillips screamed as the bombs went off at once. Adan was lucky to have gotten out of the building when the bomb exploded.

“Move this car!” he yelled at the driver as the SWAT team and Sniper team left.

“Move this car now! Another one would explode!” he yelled further as the driver drove with full speed.

When they were few blocks away from the building the bomb exploded more than thrice and black smoke broke out from the building.

“Whew…” everyone in the car breathed

“Captain, did you see her face?” Stephany asked

“I did, but...” Adan replied

“But what Captain?” Stephany asked

“She was wearing a mask so I could only see her eyes” Adan said

“Oh! I wanted to get a facial description from you but it seems we can pin all these on someone with eyes that you would describe, huh?” Stephany said

“Could you at least shut up?!” Adan yelled at Stephany

“Sorry, Cap” Stephany apologized

“Sorry for your sorry self” Adan said annoyed as he looked out of the window.

Adan Robertson walked into his office and sat with a sigh on his roller coaster chair. Never had he seen a case like the one he just witnessed that day. A near death experience. He had goose bumps on his arms as he thought about what would have happened to him if he delayed another second in the building. But he didn’t have the time to worry about that. He had a manic to catch.

“She talked about three years ago. It had to do with Phillips” he thought as he opened his system and began to search for all incidents that had to do with Phillips three years ago. And there it was as number one on the list.

“GAS EXPLOSION AT TRAINING CENTER, HORKI” he read

“Gas explosion at the Military service training centre in Horki, Danima; the gas explosion claimed the lives of 355 persons (male and female included)”

“She said during remembrance it should be 350 and not 355” Adan said, that means there are four other people alongside her who survived the gas explosion” he thought

“Was it really a gas explosion?” it was the question lingering in his mind. Stephany walked in to inform him about begging to get an interview.

 “The Army General of Horki was killed in an explosion in Horki, Danima. It is alleged that his wife and child were kidnapped and then murdered first before their bodies were discarded in front of the late General’s resident before the explosion occurred”

“Danima’s CIA agents were said to have been with him during the incident. I have with me one of the survivors of the explosion, CIA’s captain Agent Robertson” the news reporter said

“Sir, what happened during the incident that led to the death of Horki’s Army General?” she asked

“Umm… everything happened so fast and we had no idea that the late General was still in the building. We could have risked our lives to save him” Adan answered

“What was the situation like and why did the late General have to go in with the CIA during the incident?” the reporter pressed further

“I can’t disclose that now because CIA is still investigating the case” Adan answered

“One more question Sir, did the kidnapper disclose who he or she was and the reason they targeted the late General and his family?” she asked

“We are investigating the case and since it is a crucial one we have to take our time in handling it carefully” Adan said and walked off

“He’s good” Nada said to herself as she switched off her television

“Did you send that thing?” she asked Mini

“Oh, yeah I did” Mini replied 

The thing they were to send was a notice of being the next target to Swart. Philips’ was like a piece of cake to the girls as they finished off an entire family in a day. But since the CIA was suddenly interested in their case, they were going to take things slow with Swart. Shaking him up to the point where he’d almost expose himself was their priority.

 “Sir, you have an email” Henry, Swart’s secretary announced walking into his office.

“Oh! Thanks I’d check it later” Swart said as Henry left

It was still a shocker to him that in a day an entire family was wiped off.

“Why did he even dare to go into the building where those trainees were murdered? He was always acting so fearless and this has happened to him” Swart thought

“Sir, that same email keeps popping up. Why don’t you check it, Sir” Henry said again. He got tired of receiving the same mail from the same person severally and it wasn’t like he had the right to check Swart’s mail.

“Later, I’d do it later” Swart said

“For now I think I need to go home” he added as he took his jacket and walked out of the office with Henry looking confused at him

Swart stepped out of his office and bumped into Adan accidentally.

“Oh! I’m sorry Sir” Adan said

“No problem, but what brings the CIA’s Captain here?” Swart asked

“I just have a few questions regarding the death of the Army General” Adan said

“Oh! Please come to my office” Swart said as he walked back into his office surprising Henry.

“Sir, I thought you wanted to go home” Henry said staring at Adan

“Henry, cancel all my appointments for the rest of the day” Swart said 

“Yes Sir” Henry replied as he went back to his desk

“Come in, please” Swart said as he ushered Adan into his office

‘Thank you” Adan said as he sat down

“So, I didn’t really get your name” Swart said

“Oh, I’m Adan Robertson CIA Captain” Adan said

“Wow, that’s nice. So what was is it you wanted to ask about Philip’s death?” Swart asked

“Three years ago, there was a gas explosion in the military service training centre where you and Philips worked as their Commanders then, right?” Adan asked

“Yes, that was three years ago” Swart answered

“It was recorded that 355 trainees in the training centre all died in the explosion, is that correct?” Adan asked

Swart hesitated for a brief moment wondering where all the questions were heading to. “Yes, yes it is” Swart answered

“Don’t you think, Minister that the recent kidnapping and murder that took place within Philip’s household could be associated with what happened three years ago?” Adan asked looking at Swart directly in the eye

“No, Phillips said it was a raid he conducted that caused all these. A drug raid” Swart answered

“Just one more question Sir, Adan said, was the gas explosion really a gas explosion or was that phrase used to cover up the truth?” he asked

“What do you mean?” Swart asked

“I’m saying, it is absolutely possible for the gas explosion to take down the female dormitory and the dining hall at the training centre but definitely not the male dormitory that was two blocks far from it. Why? Because the other two blocks before the male dormitory wasn’t affected” Adan stated

Swart was shocked to his marrow. Nobody ever looked into the case three years ago as logically as Adan had stated.

“Robertson, we can’t really say for sure what happened because we weren’t present during the incident” Swart said

“Really, Adan asked, I thought you and Philips concluded it was a gas explosion” he added

“Also, how is it that the Commanders left on a weekend that very night before the incident took place?” Adan asked

“I also looked something up and it was said that the Commanders were not expected to let the trainees out of their sight” he added

“One Commander is acceptable, but the two of them at once? It is highly suspicious” he stated. He sat there, waiting for Swart to counter what he had just said but he remained mute and it was then Adan knew the truth was not yet out.

“It seems we will be seeing each other often since I’m personally looking into this case” Adan said as he got up

“Good day, Minister” he said and walked out

“This isn’t happening” Swart thought

The incident of three years ago was running back to him with a sickle in his hand. Justice had been served to Philips and even his family got involved. Swart didn’t need to be told he was next.

Adan had the longest day in his career that day with Nada’s appearance and her wondrous. He wondered how long she had been planning her attack for her to not show any sign that she was coming for the Philips’ but just showed up and eliminated them in a day.

He kept wondering what the truth was behind the explosion that happened three years ago. From Swart’s expression he could tell that something big was up but that wasn’t enough for him. He had the gift of cracking cases immediately he got the thesis but Nada’s was going to prove difficult. He could just feel it. 

 “If they did survive it how did they leave during the explosion then?” Adan questioned himself

And then it hit him.

“CCTV Cameras” he said out loud as he ran to his laptop

He went through the incident three years ago again but couldn’t find any recorded footages of the explosion.

“There is no way the footages wouldn’t be recorded” he thought

“Or else someone is in possession of it” he said as he went back to bed

“Its Phillips house tomorrow” Adan said as he wrapped himself with his blanket.

The next morning, Adan went to Philips’ house and met nothing but furniture, caution tapes from the Police and blood. The whole place smelt like death itself. He knew before they could get the place to smell like a house again, a huge amount of brain matter would be scrapped from the walls.

He walked into the living room and began to turn everything upside down in a bid to find what he was searching for. Taking into consideration that Phillips was a corrupt man, Adan was sure he had something to do with the missing footages.

“Where is it?” Adan said getting frustrated already

He went to the rooms and searched everywhere, even in Philips’ study but couldn’t find anything. Exasperated, Adan leaned against the wall in Philips’ study and it moved.

“What the hell!” Adan exclaimed as he nearly fell

He looked at the wall to see it half turned. There was a secret room in Philips’ study!

“As expected Philips” Adan said as he pushed the wall further and entered into the secret room. He began to suspect Philips ever since he saw him slowly bring out his gun while they were with Nada. The whole room was filled with files here and there and Adan didn’t know where to start from.

He randomly picked up a file and opened it only to find out that it was a transaction between Philips and a drug lord the CIA couldn't get a hold of.

“So, you were the middle man, Philips” Adan said as he kept the file separately and began to look into others. In the process he’s left leg kicked a box under the reading table and Adan bent down to see what it was.

A laptop was inside with numerous flash drives.

“He switched on the laptop and began to play and read everything in the flash drives. Adan came across one that had a file stored in it as ‘Mercenaries’. He opened the file and it was a video footage of the deceased trainees during their training. The next video that played was footage of several men moving from one room to another. Each coming out without the brief cases they went in with. The next footage was in a field and someone was playing the guitar. The person in question had long hair signifying it was a girl but didn’t turn around.

Smokes and screams were suddenly heard and seen in the footage he played. He saw the girl playing the guitar run into the darkness then a man came out and dropped another briefcase in the middle of the field and ran off. The next thing that followed was the sound of an explosion and the video ended.

“Bingo!” Adan said

“I have the CCTV footage of the incident” he added as he took some files, the flash drive and walked out of the study. He closed the study back and went out of the room and then went to the living room.

As he got into his car and drove off, Swart watched him from a distance in his own car

“He’s digging in too much”

 “Honey, how do you feel?” Swart asked his wife who was hospitalized as he walked into her ward. She had taken a bullet when she tried to stop the 5 from taking Elisa hostage. But she had failed because she just helped them recognize her easily.

“Better, now that you are here” Hannah replied smiling

“Is there anything you want?” Swart said as he dropped the flowers he got her on the table. He was surprised to see another one there and her favorite at that.

“What’s this Daisy doing here?” he asked

“Daisy is in school you know” Hannah replied

“I know I’m not talking about our daughter but about this flower here” Swart said

“Oh! I ordered for it. You know how much I love Daisies” Hannah said 

“Yeah, so much that you named our daughter Daisy. I wonder why you didn’t name Macleod Daisy too” Swart joked 

He had thought the 5 sent her the flowers signifying she was their next target.

“I should have named him Carination, that flower is also beautiful too” Hannah said

“That’s a girl’s name and are we going to talk about names throughout today?” Swart asked

“You started it first” Hannah sang as she laughed at the face Swart made

“But no one strange came here today or did you see anyone following you at all?” Swart asked

“No one is after me dear, you worry too much. Those people were after Elisa and not me. Too bad she’s gone. She was a wonderful person” Hannah said feeling sad

“I hope so” Swart said as he brought out the chocolates he got her and began to feed her

“Hmm… they are good” Hannah commented

“They are?”
