“Uncle, who are they?” a little boy asked.

“Oh, they are the imperial guards. They are gods who come to our aid when the army can’t protect us,” the uncle replied after looking up.

“They are gods?”

“Yeah boy. Remember this, never offend one. They can kill you without lifting a finger,”

“Uncle, for real?”

“Killing everyone in this city will take them less than a minute,”

“Wow. You said the last headcount was over eight hundred thousand, right?”

“Yeah. Let’s get back to work,”

The little boy gazed at a group of people floating in the air. Dressed in pure white garments were three men and two women. “Uncle, aren’t we supposed to bow or worship like in the shrines?” the boy asked.

“True, when you are in front of gods, bow and worship. But the imperial guards do not mind. They do what they do, not caring whether we bow or not. Among the gods, they are the most humble and righteous,”

“Oh, how many gods are there?”

“Too many to count my boy,”

“Can we become gods?”
