Martial hall duel

Each decade the martial halls of both families, the Heart and the Silver holds a duel to determine the strength and rights of the other, it was their way of competing and no original member of the families were allowed to participate, the duel was held for the students under the martial halls, it was how it had always been.

“Is there a problem here” a voice suddenly came from behind the group causing all of them to scramble back a little in fear, they hadn’t felt the presence approach almost like a ghost appearing behind them, why wouldn’t they be frightened. As for Sofia she smiled recognizing the voice.

“No problem at all Mr.Heart” the one who appeared to be the senior replied politely, cold sweat forming all over his face, he was clearly either nervous or still frightened, “We were just telling the young miss how curious we were to see the strength of the Heart’s martial hall students this year” he said once again but this time his tone sounding a bit relaxed as if he possessed the upper hand and a hint of mockery in his tone.

“Don’t tell me you forgot Kale” a grown man looking around the age of fifty with white beard spoke after his sudden appearance.

“Lui, I’m well aware of the duel…” Kale replied his tone calm as he walked to Sofia’s side and after a brief silence he continued “my decision on the duel is to forfeit on behalf…”

“I’m the Heart’s contender in the martial hall duel. Right Mr. Heart” Damian’s voice suddenly came from behind them all interrupting Kale.

‘This kid…’ Kale thought blankly, he had already given up on the duel, it had been one of the many things on his mind but ten years ago many core members of the Heart all went on an expedition it was to a planet away from earth’s system, they arrived safely on the planet but after a week they suddenly vanished and all forms of connections and communications were cut off, multiple teams had been sent to search for them but to no avail, and because of the sudden displacement of power on the island the students of the Heart’s martial hall all left to join the Silver’s martial hall including their best students .

All of a sudden, bursts of laughter brought Kale back, the members of the Silvers were laughing at them, Kale simply nodded at Sofia and they both turned around and started walking away like the motion was something that had been rehearsed multiple times before, Damian understanding quickly followed behind them.

Ever since Kale dropped Damian at the recovery pool he had been awake but too weak and as his eyes were closed due to him trying to heighten his concentration to focus on the eyes of darkness Kale still thought he was unconscious, placed in the pool he could feel the energy in the pool healing and helping him to regain his energy but it felt different and wrong to him almost like the energy of the pool wasn’t just helping him but was also affecting him too, after seventeen years on the Angel’s island he had a bit of experience in sensing energies especially angels and demons, but what strengthened his belief that something was wrong with the energy the pool was providing was when Lucifer spoke.

“Leave at once” Lucifer said and no more, but those words were enough for Damian to confirm something was wrong with the pool, he then proceeded to ask.

“Lucifer the pool supplies energy, but there seems to be something wrong…?” Damian spoke unsure how to even pose the question.

“The energy it supplies is actually helpful, but it’s attempting to invade your body for what purpose, I don’t know, but it’s definitely not good. I’ve been repelling the energy from entering and affecting your body, but it still flows to energize you, there isn’t much I can do from the inside apart from that.” Lucifer explained then continued after a pause “If it’s a source of energy you seek, I have a way that I can teach you but it’s up to you in the end if you can succeed, I’ll explain later, the humans seem to be in a serious conversation” Lucifer said before speaking about Kale and the rest, that was when Damian made his appearance.

“Are you seriously going to put the faith and hope of the Heart in this stranger” Lui said after sizing up Damian and noticing he was no one of significance, obviously he had done his research on the Hearts and he knew they had no one to participate in the duel, for someone to appear at the last moment and after sizing him up and noticing how weak he was Lui estimated that Damian had just unlocked his Genesis.

-Panting-

Kale jerked up from his slumber, he had just had a bad dream and could be seen trying to catch his breath.

‘I have to be more serious’ he thought to himself as he decided to get some more sleep.

-Bang! Bang!-

Multiple low resounding bangs could be heard faintly in a dimly lit room filled with ashy-like fog, in there twelve glowing white small button sized circles could be seen forming a cube and none of the ashy-like fog could be seen in the glowing cube. In it Sofia and Damian could be seen, Sofia seemed to have multiple beads of sweat forming and dropping from her face while Damian didn’t seem to be faring much better as he appeared to be drenched entirely in sweat barely coping and only managing to defend the black balls with the eyes of darkness but he knew he wasn’t the only one tired as he could see Sofia’s energy in her body, it appeared to be a shining reddish and bluish hue from the beginning but as they went on he could see it reduce slowly.

All the while the training hadn’t been completely fruitless as his ability to sense things seemed to improve significantly, the last time he was in the fog he could barely see his own hands but now he could see almost normally, the ashy fog appeared like black waves with his new vision almost like clouds, and the denser it was the harder it was to move, everything else was quite easy to understand, his eyes remained closed for better concentration though he had no idea what would happen if he was to open them he decided against it, after all he had already accepted the quest, he could just wait till the quest duration ran out.

About a week has passed by since Damian, Kale and Sofia came back from the recovery pool and Kale had been engaging Damian and Sofia in immense training, Kale hadn’t even spoken with Damian about the event but Damian could tell he had something to say, from his guess Kale would probably call him to speak to him today, he couldn’t how but the eyes of darkness seemed to enhance more than just his sight, he couldn’t read minds-maybe not yet. But as he could see in a completely different type of sight, he could feel more emotions than what the person was letting out through facial expressions alone if he concentrated really hard, but the amount of focus it demanded was a bit absurd.

Now with the eyes of darkness he could feel Kale’s figure stop, before he could only try to determine where the balls were coming from but now he could feel whenever Kale slowed down or stopped to launch a ball towards them, but seeing and acting were two different things, seeing light flash was different from reacting to the flash of light, apart from that he couldn’t see Kale’s figure in the fog. The ashy fog began to disperse and vanish and Kale’s figure slowly came to view, he was standing in front of the duo.

“Good job…go freshen up and meet me in the living room after two hours” immediately after Kale finished, he disappeared from sight.

Sofia and Damian looked at each other with a slightly confused look before nodding at each other. They were too tired to speak but they seemed to understand each other as they simply walked away.
