2025-01-18 22:21:37“Who’s the kid?” Kale asked someone on the other end of the line, in the kitchen.
“Why the sudden question Kale, any sudden discovery” the boss questioned Kale his tone a bit excited as if expecting some juicy news until he seemed to calm down and read the tone Kale used, he asked again “has anything out of ordinary happened”, but still no response from Kale “Just give a brief explanation on what happened. It hasn’t even been an hour…” the boss spoke again before keeping quiet suppressing his anxious feeling waiting for a reply before removing the device from his just to find out the call had already been ended.
“Damn Kale” he cursed at the top of his voice at the same time slammed his fists on the table before calming down. A few seconds later the device began to ring again, he picked it up and answered the incoming call before hearing a familiar voice.
“Are you done and ready for the report” Kale’s voice came from the other end of the line, his tone sounding as calm as ever making the boss relax, nothing had happened, at least nothing too serious.
“Speak” the boss replied after taking a deep breath in and out to relax.
“Status on rank still unknown, ability unknown, but I’m not calling for any formal report yet they are all still unknown, all I know is he couldn’t stand a punch from an Ect rank in training, reaction and perception seem weak, but he wasn’t knocked out for a minute…it’s a situation I can’t really explain, I’ll send you the footage but my main point is some of his abilities don’t seem to match up with my previous analysis…like how long he could last against my ability” Kale explained briefly.
“How long?” the boss asked again, a bit intrigued.
“About 15 seconds and it’s through direct contact,” Kales replied.
“15 seconds that’s…to be expected on my path” the boss said after a pause and a bit of thought.
Kale seemed to raise an eyebrow “Jordan, we both know the limit is on par with how long a Dove rank can last…I don’t know of his other abilities but this is enough to rate him a rank higher than Ect, with his weak physique it doesn’t seem to add up.” Kale spoke his tone sounding more questioning as if demanding an explanation from Jordan.
“I’ll be expecting the footage Kale. All I can say is expect a lot more surprises from the kid. He can be a real game changer to a lot of things if he’s nurtured well, I can feel it… our superiors”.
“Your superiors. I left the organization years ago” Kale interrupted with a serious tone.
“I’m sorry about her Kale but let’s focus on the future, my superiors are unaware of him, he’s someone I want to nurture myself think of the profits, who knows Sofia can even take the enrollment exam again with a great partner, you know she’s always wanted to be like her mom just…” Jordan was speaking trying to coax Kale as much as possible when Kale finally spoke.
“Fine” Kale interrupted “But I’m not doing this for you, I’m doing it cause we had a deal, just know what you're getting yourself into, he can be a good asset but also a ticking time bomb we know nothing about. And I’m calling in that favor, get me two slots for the enrollment exam” Kale said and ended the call.
“Dad” a sweet charming voice called out to Kale from upstairs.
“I’m coming” Kale replied knowing it was his daughter’s voice and knowing the reason, as he picked up the coffees before leaving the kitchen and going upstairs with a tray, on it was a jar filled with coffee and three empty glass cups, on entering the room Kale saw Sofia and Damian chatting seemingly merrily, a bit of anger seemed to stir within him but he kept a straight face. This was an utter violation of his only rule.
As Kale entered, Sofia noticed his presence and stood up from the bed rushing towards him to collect the tray in his hands.
“Thanks dad” Sofia said as she collected the tray from him in a dismissive tone, she then walked back to the bed and dropped the tray on a stool in front of them and poured two cups of coffee from the jar. Kale seeing all this began to walk towards them, picking up a chair from the other side of the room, while Sofia and Damian talked.
When Sofia realized Kale was still in the room and was picking up a chair, she called out to him “Dad…what are you doing?” she asked with a questioning gaze.
“Joining you of course” Kale replied like it was only natural.
“No,no,no,no,no! Teenager’s only, Mr. Heart, you can take your leave now” Sofia complained in a bossy way.
“Oh…” Kale opened his mouth to speak but no words seemed to come out. He could only mutter a low ‘oh’, he brought three cups instead of two for a reason. He turned around and began to leave slowly as if his feet suddenly became heavy, he walked slowly hoping Sofia would call him back but to his disappointment, she didn’t. Stopping at the door to the room, Kale looked back and realized Sofia and Damian had continued their talk. “Bye Sofie” Kale muttered with a wave, but Sofia seemed to pay him no heed as if he wasn’t standing in the room.
‘Did I spoil her too much’ Kale suddenly thought after leaving the room questioning himself.
Sofia and Damian talked for a while, taking sips of coffee along the same, the seemingly gloomy atmosphere from the start nowhere to be seen again.
“I need to get some rest, training with my dad continues tomorrow” Sofia said as she stood up letting out a small yawn before adding “You should get some rest too. You’ll need it”.
“For the exam, right?” Damian asked.
“Yes,” Sofia replied, one could almost hear the exhaustion in her tone, “I’m off” she said before taking her leave.

Just waking up from his peaceful slumber as the rays of the sun reflected through the window onto his face, Damian sat up letting out a big fat yawn while stretching afterwards and wiping his sleepy eyes with his hands.
“Carlinous” Damian called out “Carlinous” he called out again raising his voice “Carlinous if you make me…” Damian began to shout.
“Silence” Lucifer’s spoke calmly on Damian’s mind but to his ears it felt like someone was screaming in them, it was so loud he had to raise his hands to cover them. “Where do you think you are that a butler will run up to you as soon as you wake, it seems your mind isn’t keeping up with the actions your body is taking” Lucifer said, this time the words sounding normal.
Silence filled the room for about a minute as Damian vividly recalled and dwelled on all that had happened.
“Greetings to you too Luci,” Damian said, finally breaking the silence with a smile.
“Crazy kid…” Lucifer muttered.
“Let’s check around” Damian said as he stood up and began walking towards the direction of his room
