148. The Promise

The once-grand entrance hall was unrecognizable and the walls were charred and blackened, while the marble floor was cracked and stained with blood. The chandelier that had once hung from the ceiling was now a twisted and broken mess, its crystals scattered across the floor.

“Hey you, you’re finally awake.” A familiar voice greeted him. It was Rudeth, his clothes were torn all over and he had to struggle just to stand. “Sorry about the thwack. I can’t let you kill the Wenovitch lady.”

Devon nodded with a faint smile. “Don’t mind it, Rudeth. I should be thanking you instead for stopping me back then. I wasn’t entirely myself at that time and just got taken over by the course of the moment.”

“But still, I can’t afford to let her get away just like that. After all, she shares the same blood with the very family who erased my parents and sister.”
