I refused to become a scapegoat

Axl knows that his first task is crucial in making a good impression on Long Sha. Long Sha has only one son, whom he loves deeply. Due to his affection for his son, Long Sha's career has been hindered several times because of his son's misdeeds. However, instead of just reprimanding and becoming angry with him, he always finds a way to protect and cover up for his son.

For example, at this moment, there is a kidnapping incident happening in the hotel in front of him. And the culprit was exactly his own son, Long Tao. Long Tao, who cannot handle rejection, decided to kidnap the woman who always rejected him and bring her to this hotel.

If the woman in question was a regular person, Long Sha could have covered up any problems. However, this woman is the same person over whom the protagonist Ye Feng and the villain Long Tao are fighting over. Furthermore, she happens to be Ye Feng's childhood friend and also holds the position of managing director at Biotech Corp., one of the biggest State-owned enterprises in the Capital city.

Not to mention her impressive background, even Long Sha himself was clearly a little bit hesitant, as evidenced by his decision to let Axl clean up the mess. This Long Tao's stupidity was really beyond comprehension.

Axl understood that this was essentially a test for him before he could become the official bodyguard for the main member of the Long family. He knew that he needed to perform perfectly. If he succeeded, he could at least survive, but if he failed this mission and made a mess of it, he would be directly abandoned or killed.

Axl also knows this plot very well as he has already read it. In the story, the kidnapping operation was busted by the police and the protagonist, and in the end, Long Sha used a scapegoat to cover up his son's wrongdoing. This is where the problem lies, as he was the one who took charge to clean up Long Tao's mess. In the original plot, he was not involved in this plot. Now with his involvement, does that mean the scapegoat is him? Bloody hell... Surely the butterfly effect, right?

Axl immediately went to the hotel receptionist.

"Hello, sir. What can I help you with?" the hotel receptionist asked.

"Give me the key to room 710," Axl said.

The receptionist frowned. "I am sorry, sir, but the regular--"

Axl suddenly showed him his phone, and the words that the receptionist wanted to say were stuck in his throat. Axl had shown him a voicemail from the big boss, who was feared by everyone and was the actual owner of the hotel. As a result, the receptionist gave up trying to argue with Axl. With fear on his face, the receptionist immediately looked left and right and hurriedly gave Axl the room card, as if his life depended on it.

"Alright, thank you, and don't worry, you will not be involved in this. But you know what to do with the CCTV, right?" Axl asked menacingly.

The receptionist nodded hurriedly.

Humming with satisfaction, Axl went to room 710.

*DING*

"The lift opened and Axl got out, immediately heading to room 710. Upon finding it, he shook his head. If it were another villain, at least a bodyguard would be assigned to keep her under surveillance. Now, they were allowing their target to move freely and alone. This is ridiculous. How could Long Sha, the mafia overlord, have such a son?

He immediately inserted the card, opened the door, and saw what was inside.

In the room, there was a woman with brown hair, wearing a short skirt and black stockings that covered her legs. However, her legs were tied up, and her mouth was taped shut, although the tape had already come loose a little bit. Axl had to admit that, despite her unkempt appearance, this woman was beautiful.

Wen Yuci. This is her name, and if he can remember, she was the first heroine to appear in the novel.

"You bastards!" she yelled.

"Don't think I don't know that Long Tao asked you to do this!"

"You better let me go now, or... ummmmmmm—"

Annoyed, Axl grabbed the pillow and threw it at her face. He then sat in a chair in the room and closed his eyes, thinking about how to escape from his current predicament. Soon, Long Tao and his gang would arrive, followed by the police force and the protagonist. He needed a plan that could help them both escape and not offend these two figures.

He grabbed a piece of paper and slowly drew out the situation clearly for himself to better understand it. He drew a circle and wrote his name, "Axl," in the center, with two branches extending to the left and right. On the left side were the villain camp, the Long duo, and on the right were the protagonist, Ye Feng, and his master. In the middle of the circle, he wrote the heroine's name, "Wen Yuci," since she was the only heroine who appeared.

"Argh..." Axl scratched his hair because, no matter what he thinks, he cannot find a way to escape his predicament now. Actually, it was easy to escape alone, but to escape without offending these two guys, Axl was helpless. But he knew he couldn't just stay quiet, or he would definitely die! Well, at least he would be thrown into prison first, but who knows how many people in the prison were Long's pawns.

Wait a minute... That's right... I was trained to become the main family bodyguard, so I was responsible for Long Tao's safety. Moreover, it was Long Sha himself who asked me to clean up his mess,' Axl contemplated.

*SNAP*

Axl clapped his hands and showed a relaxed expression. That's right. He can use the prestige of Long family especially Long Sha's name as a deterrent to intimidate Long Tao and his gang. For the sake to not becoming a scapegoat, he need to act first.

Slowly, Axl stood up and went to Wen Yuci side.

---Wen Yuci POV---

Wen Yuci, who had suspected that Axl was Long Tao's accomplice, watched in horror as the man slowly approached her. Tears streamed down her face as she scanned the man with a vigilant gaze, the pillow that had been thrown at her pressing the tape on her mouth, leaving her unable to speak and only able to make muffled sounds like "Ummmm--"

As the man stood in front of her, Wen Yuci's worst fears were realized when he coldly pulled out a dagger from his waist. Her heart raced with terror, and her body trembled uncontrollably.

In that moment, Wen Yuci realized how much she still had left to do in life and how much she didn't want to die. She silently pleaded with the man to spare her life, but he showed no mercy. With a menacing look in his eyes, he raised the knife and prepared to strike.

Wen Yuci closed her eyes, bracing herself for the worst, but then...
