Chapter Two

"Is that you?"

Ares's brows drew in confusion. It better not be what he's thinking, it can't be. Last time he saw her she was all fine, then how?

"Mum," He mumbled, inching closer.

Her hands stopped on his built chest as her lips began to quiver, "It's really you" she fell into his embrace.

Her warmth felt nostalgic, god knows how much he has missed it. He retaliated with her gesture encircling his biceps around her.

She broke into sobs, "Ares. It's you" she repeated, finding it surreal.

He fought back the chuckle that slipped. "Yes Mum, it is. Come on, let's get you inside" he ushers shutting the door behind.

She held onto his hand for support, "You could take to the couch, we have a lot of catching up to do" she says her tune drenched with weariness.

"Is something wrong with your sight?" He couldn't help but ask.

She smiled a sad one as he settled her down on the worn out couch. "Come, seat"

Ares sat next to her, she got a hold of his hand. "A lot has happened ever since the incident that got you jailed–"

"Where's Dad?" Ares suddenly inquires about cutting her off.

Her expression dropping didn't go unnoticed by Ares, making him more tense and worked up.

"What is it?" He asks, "Is he at work?"

She broke into sobs, her body quivering, "He's Gone" she muttered in-between tears.

Ares bolts up confusion more evident on his face trying to make sense out of the sudden information, "What!" He blurts.

She nods, "Your father is no more Ares."

"No. This can't be? How? When?" He questions minutes away from outbursting.

"It happened at his workplace. Your father had been overworking himself to pay off the impending debt he had collected for your school tuition. And then one day I received a call from his work station stating he had fallen during construction and has been admitted to the hospital '' She paused, sucking in some tears.

"Two days after he was admitted, he passed away"

Ares stood dead on his feet struggling to digest the news. There's more to this, he has this gut feeling and he will get to the bottom of it.

"I lost my sight Ares. Not too long after your father passed" she dropped another bombshell.

"How?"

She sucked in a breath, "I was coming home after my night shift at the cafe I work in, all of a sudden I got hijacked by nerve racking men." She cries, "I, they spared something in my eyes, I don't know what it was but it stung. Last thing I remember was being but in a van and the next morning I woke up in a hospital bed"

Ares froze to the spot, his jawline hardened and his hands balled into a fist, a series of breaths waved out from his nostrils with barely contained rage.

"Cristian!" He says barely above a whisper.

The DuPont did this no doubt they did. First he stole his girl, sent him to jail, killed his father and now blind his mum.

Oh he's so fucked!

Ares isn't backing down with a fight. He burnt with thirst of revenge, the mere thought of what he'd do to Cristian or rather the whole DuPont, is an understatement.

He has crossed the line. Ares thought the fight stays between him and Cristian never thought the brat could go to the extent of ruining his family.

"Ares, are you there?" His mum called out, slicing through his train of thoughts.

He sucked in some air trying to burn down his anger. He needed to go about this tactfully.

One thing's for sure, DuPont will get what's coming for them.

He sat down, "Mum, listen to me" he cupped her face wiping off the tears that slipped.

His heart winced seeing her in this condition, the things he wanted to do to Cristian.

Ugh!

"I'll take care of things–"

She cut him off, "No please, don't do anything Ares. We already have enough on our plate, I don't want you to mingle with those rich people."

He groans, "Mum, trust me–"

"No! If you respect me then you do as I say. I've lost your father and I'm not willing to lose you too. I've already been through enough shit and I don't want you adding up to that." She burst out cutting him off guard.

"Mum–"

A knock on the door had him suck back his words. His brows are drawing together.

His mother's body went stiff, her lips began to tremble, "Ares" she stuttered.

"Shh!" He uttered, getting up.

He walked to the door oozing valor and confidence.

He clicked open the door and a man dressed in suits with a folder held in his hands and a suitcase steps in.

"Ares Russor?"
