Bathed in the warm light of the sun, the lush beautiful and vibrant archipelago of Yamata flourished, like a stunning garden. Behind Yamata sat the Oeo. It’s water so clear that you could, see the blemishes on your skin, from its reflection. Its purity was used as a comparison to all things clean. Teeming with crustaceans and fish, untouched by the harsh arcane energy, and not yet mutated.
However most of the citizens in Jux knew Yamata, by the dividing Maelstrom. Scarcely anyone could make the journey to Yamata, without assistance from a flying level Draken, or a strong enough mage. The Maelstrom was a monstrous never ending force of nature, which whipped and lashed against the cliff face of Yamata.
Comprised of eight colossal whirlpools, that leads to the dark abyss. With clashing waves so violent and fierce, they would break the bones of any creature too reckless or weary to avoid its wrath. It is said that there is enough water in Maelstrom, to quench your thirst by gazing at it. The dark waters were salty enough to rust steel in an instant, and block out the sun.
Under the dense shade of a mighty oak tree, overlooking the Maelstrom, a young olive skin man gently snored away, on a bed of soft grass. He wore a frayed and withered Kāṣāya, the fabric barely clinging onto his body. Leaves rested his short tuffs of black hair, his slumber deep and tranquil.
A large dark skinned burly man loomed over him, with a furious scowl and puffing. His sweaty skin glistened under the sun. He wore nothing but a lavalava, a traditional skirt of the male Islanders.
“Oi, wake up.” The man growled, prodding him with his toe.The young man let out annoyed groan rolling onto his side. The burly man grit his teeth, a vein bulged in his head.
“I SAID WAKE UP YAMADA!” The man yelled stomping his foot into the soft grass.
The young man quickly shot awake, his eyes half open and drool trickling down the side of his mouth. “Huh! Wha?” He said dazed with his fists up. Yamada rubbed his eyes taking a closer look at the furious man, and giving him an annoyed and disinterested look.
“Oh, it’s just you Kale.”
Yamada said sitting back down and dusting off his Kāṣāya. Kale’s hand enveloped over Yamada’s forearm, and yanked him to his feet with a single tug of the arm.
“Yamada get up!” Kale exclaimed. “Training is about to start, and Chieftain Kekoa is leading it this time.” Yamada pulled his hand away with ease, and fixed his hair, starting to stretch his shoulders.
“So what? Kekoa never likes me coming to class anyway. What’s he always saying to me? ‘If you can’t use Enk magic, why come to training?’ It was something like that.”
Kale grabbed Yamada by the shoulders, lifting him into the air, shaking him around. “The mage from the Citadel is visiting today? Do you seriously not remember?” He gave Kale a derisive smirk.
“What? That’s not today, there are only seven whirlpools. They said they would come when the Maelstrom is strongest.” Kale spun Yamada in the air, giving him a view of the Maelstrom, as if he had climbed the tree.
Yamada quickly focused his eyes and began counting the whirlpools. “OH SHIT! THERE’S EIGHT! WHY DIDN’T YOU WAKE ME UP EARLIER!? WE’RE GOING TO BE LATE!” Yamada shouted breaking free of the grip in an instant. Kale threw his hands up in disbelief and annoyance. “Are you serious right now?”
The two of them sprinted across the island with Kale falling behind. “Slow down!” Kale called out, huffing and puffing, struggling to keep up. Yamada planted his bare feet down, splitting the earth apart like a brand new hoe, and turned around.
Kale froze in shock and confusion, watching Yamada running back to him. His eyes bulged and he let out a scream fright, as Yamada threw him onto his shoulders, like a small sack of grain.
Yamada sprinted through the busy market place weaving through the crowds. Vaulting through the vendor stalls, with Kale’s bulky and chunky legs, leaving a trail of destruction. The Islanders cursed and swore at them. “SORRY!” Yamada called out, with Kale giving them an uncomfortable smile and wave.
In a large open field, overlooking the Maelstrom, besieged with battle damage. Several young dark skinned men paired off. Training with wooden staffs, their muscles covered in tattoos of weapons, glistening with sweat.
Yamada leapt out of the thick bushes, covered in twigs and leaves, tumbling in with Kale. Yamada sprung to his feet slightly huffed and looking around frantically, whereas Kale lay on the ground catching his breath.
“Chieftain Kekoa isn’t here yet. Wooo! Told you we wouldn’t be late.” He said triumphantly, resting his hands on his hips.
They all glared at him annoyed, as he dusted off his Kāṣāya, now with several more tears. “LINE UP!” A deep booming voice yelled out. All of them stood shoulder to shoulder in an instant, not even dusting off their dirty lavalavas.
Chieftain Kekoa; was a large bald brawny man, covered in scars, and tribal tattoos, past his prime. He sauntered over with his bulging gut hanging out, holding a thick cane, wearing an oversized jade lavalava, and a grass woven crown. Out of breath from the small walk, he scanned the men up and down with contempt and disappointment.
“The Maelstrom is at its strongest, and when it spits out a beast, you pitiful lot are going to be its first sight. I am filled with nothing but anger and shame, that you children will be the first defence for Yamata.” He shook his head disappointed, turning his back to them and gazed to the vibrant blue sky.
“Grand Mage Urkse will be here shortly to find a new student, for the school of Enk. Look sharp and do not humiliate Yamata, and lose to whatever creature crawls out.”
They all gazed to the sky, the sun blaring down on them, eagerly waiting for the clouds to part. Encara slowly and quietly, stretched his head through Yamada and Kale.
“What are we all looking at?” He asked with a grin.
Everyone yelled out cursing and swearing, jumping forward and raising their fists. Encara reeled back chuckling, holding his stomach, with Urkse shaking his head.
Chieftain Kekoa was at a loss for words and quickly fell to his knees, slamming his head to the ground. “EVERYONE BOW TO YOUR KING NOW!” He ordered. The others quickly fell to their knees, bowing.
“I told you they were expecting me to fly in.” Urkse said letting out long sigh.
He helped Chieftain Kekoa off his feet, while Encara settled down under the shade of a nearby tree. “Why has the King decided to grace us, with his presence?” “Because he felt like, making my life difficult.” Urkse growled.
Encara opened his magenta cloak, fluffing his high quality white silk shirt, enjoying the cool wind against his skin. Yamada furtively looked up at King Encara, and saw nothing special. He was taller than Yamada by two heads, and nothing else, but being taller than Yamada was an easy task.
“When does the creature arrive? Urkse has prattled on and on, about the delicacy of the Maelstrom.” Encara called out.
“Sh..shortly my King. The Maelstrom will soon change directions.” Chieftain Kekoa said bowing his head down.
Encara rushed over to the perilous cliff edge, to Chieftain Kekoa’s dismay and fright. He peered down at the whirlpools in the Maelstrom, slowly growing in size and merging. “How often does this happen?” He asked.
“Every eight months.” Urkse answered standing next to him. Urkse licked his lips, and swallowed his saliva pooling up in his mouth. Encara looked at him concerned, and back down to the Maelstrom.
“Any creature in particular you want to come out?” Encara asked sarcastically.
“I really hope it’s a squid, or octopus.” Urkse said rubbing his hands together.
The whirlpools fused, and then suddenly inversed in directions, the waves crashed away from the large whirlpool. As if even the waters itself feared what would emerge.
The men all jumped to their feet, pulling obsidian edged leiomanos, spears, and axes from their skin. Encara looked back at the young timid men, readying themselves, however only one of them piqued his interest.
Yamada stood beside the others with the top of his Kāṣāya hanging by his waist. He had the body of a great warrior, but no stories to tell, but his scarred knuckles told a story of rage.
Encara grabbed Urkse by the scruff of his cloak and warped them away. A geyser of water shot into the air, and several giant scaled tentacles latched onto the cliff edge, with spiked suckers.
They tore through the ground, and a water logged roar rang out, sending a shiver down the young men. The giant scaled octopus pulled its gelatinous body up, its bulbous head pulsating with each breath, its scales coloured in vibrant blue rings. They all froze in fear as the creature, glared down at them with its sharp elliptical eyes, like a viper.
“DRAKEN! RUN AWAY NOW!” Chieftain Kekoa shouted, tossing his cane aside, and pulling out his leiomanos from his back. He let out a battle cry charging the Draken, as the other men ran in terror.
Urkse popped the cork from his flask, when he felt Encara’s firm grasp on his shoulder.
“Don’t interfere.” He said with a smile.
Chieftain Kekoa leapt into the air, breaking the ground beneath him, slammed his leiomanos against the Draken. The massive wooden club shattered against the scales, and Chieftain Kekoa stared on frozen at his broken weapon.
A shadow loomed over him, and he gazed up to see a spiked tentacle, coming down. Chieftain Kekoa closed his eyes and readied himself for death. Chieftain Kekoa was tackled out of the way by Yamada.
“WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?” Yamada yelled angrily. He was stunned and at a loss for words, staring vacantly at Yamada.
The draken let out a roar, lashing its armoured tentacles, rending the earth apart, charging at them. Chieftain Kekoa ran for dear life, his jiggling fat and fear, irked Encara.
Yamada grit his teeth and clenched his fists, taking a fighting stance. He lowered his base and cocked his fists back. Urkse watched on filled with dread and apprehension, whereas Encara watched on filled with glee and excitement.
We need to help them Encara!” Urkse pleaded. “If they can’t handle a single draken, they’re doomed anyway. Now give them a chance.” Urkse grit his teeth, and knew it was futile to argue against Encara.
“Run away, boy.” Urkse said to himself, keeping his hand ready at his flask.
Yamada leapt off the ground shattering beneath his feet, letting out a battle cry. His lightning fast speed shocked Urkse, Encara and the Draken. His fist dug deep into the beast’s bulbous head, and knocked it back a few meters.
Its tentacles slammed into the ground, the beast shook its head enraged and let out another roar. Swinging its spiked tentacles wildly at Yamada, he dodged each strike, like a leaf dancing in the wind. Encara smiled from ear to ear, watching Yamada approach the beast.
He continued to dodge over and under, in and out of the tentacles. Delivering heavy yet swift blows, to any tentacles he could not dodge. Each blow cracked the hardened scales, and made the beast cry out.
The Draken recoiled onto its tentacles, revealing the scaled beak underneath its gelatinous body. Yamada mounted a tentacle, as a torrent of hot ink shot out. The ink melted through the ground like butter in a hot pan, before being sucked into Urkse’s flask.
Yamada quickly scaled a tentacle, to the Draken’s head. He cocked his fist back and let out a primal scream, plunging his fist through the beast’s eye. A spout of blue blood splattered across Yamada, and the beast recoiled in agony, stumbling backwards to the cliff edge, its tentacles still flailing wildly.
Yamada continued his barrage, each blow covered in him blue innards and blood. The cliff edge gave way and the two of them plummeted down to the Maelstrom.
Urkse and Encara rushed over to the edge, watching the two of them descend into the raging waters below. Urkse popped his flask, when Encara swatted him away with the back of his hand. He was sent flying away, crashing into the trees.
“Bliss.” Encara whispered. The golden and turquoise cross of blessing magic branded Urkse, his eyes rolled into the back of his head, and a euphoric smile crossed over his face.
The Draken’s twitching corpse crashed into the Maelstrom with Yamada following in suit. The Draken was quickly swallowed by the whirlpool, and he was thrown from its corpse into the middle.
He took a breath, large enough to crack his ribs, as a monstrous wave swallowed him whole. He felt his bones crack and his muscles rupture.
He mustered all his strength swimming to the surface, taking a gasp of air, before he was crushed under another wave. Yamada desperately swam back to the surface, for a wisp of air. He was whipped back and forth by the violent waves. Sucked into a whirlpool, desperately trying to swim out of its mighty pull, he felt his energy being sapped away.
He screamed for help, the water filled his lungs, in an instant. He sunk into the abyss of the Maelstrom. Yamada bounced off a colossal stone serpent head, at the bottom of the Maelstrom.
Yamada was but a speck to its fang, as he continued to sink. The stone around the serpent’s neck shattered, with two frilled fins coming out, and it let out a roar, before turning back to stone.
The islands of Yamata shook violently for a flash. Encara looked down at the Maelstrom with pure glee. Seeing his reflection and Yamada floating atop the gentle and calm Maelstrom.
Chieftain Kekoa and the other men slowly approached the edge, standing beside Encara. The eerie silence and calm of the Maelstrom, made the Islanders feel uneasy.“How...how is this possible?” Chieftain Kekoa stammered.Encara walked off the cliff edge, with the others screaming after him. He floated down gracefully lowering himself to the Maelstrom’s surface. He walked across the Maelstrom, each step rippling out, and stood over Yamada. Encara threw Yamada over his shoulder like a light sack. The waters began to boil over, swirling violently and then suddenly erupted into colossal waves. Encara gazed around at the raging waters, the shadow of titan sized creatures lurking beneath him.A giant amber octopus surfaced, attempting to drag Encara and Yamada down. The large creature locked eyes with Encara’s enraged scowl and froze in terror.“Float.” Encara growled. The large creature was branded by the cross of blessing magic, and levitated into the air. The creature flailed frantically
Encara shook Yamada’s hand up and down with enthusiasm. Yamada stared wide-eyed, unblinking, with his lips slowly parting and jaw dropping. Encara slowed the shaking down, cocking his head at Yamada, waiting for a reaction.“Uh....are you okay?” He said giving him a concerned look. Yamada nodded his expression frozen.“You..don’t want to be a knight?” Yamada shook his head, his expression still frozen in place. Encara let go of Yamada’s hand, it continued to go up and down with the same cadence. He took a few steps back, inspecting Yamada from a distance, still with a frozen facial expression, and shaking his hand up and down.“You...you uh take your time to process that information. I’ll go talk to Urkse.” Encara turned around shaking his head disturbed. He leapt into the sky, like a feather and floated in the air. He proceeded to walk on the air, towards the village, celebrating and feasting on the giant octopus.Encara found Chieftain Kekoa, congratulating a guardian on being recru
Encara weakly opened his eyes, his skin still wrinkly and loose, with a thirst and hunger clawing his insides.“You look like complete shit.” Gwyneth said, standing at the end of his bed.He looked over to the table side, seeing a roasted chicken with a large bowl of rice, and a mug of mead. Encara staggered over, devouring the food, with no etiquette.“I met that boy of yours.” She said taking a seat on his bed. “What did Jacara do this time?” He said annoyed with a full mouth.“Not that little shit of yours. He just came back half dead, from doing the Grand Mage promotion test.” She scoffed.“How’d he do?” Encara asked, waiting for her answer, before he ate.“He came back with A Draken heart, said he would get the other five later.” Encara chuckled.“What’d you think of the new boy?” Encara asked, chugging down his drink. His skin started to become tighter, his muscles growing, and his hair starting shine silver. She removed her vambrace, showing her purple and yellow forearm. “The
Yamada woke up, with heavy eye lids, and heavier body. Scrunching his face, the searing and sharp pain brought him to his senses. He shot up trying to clutching his nose, feeling the intense pain in his gut, letting out a pained groan reeling back.“By the Blessed, how are you up?” A woman said astonished, rushing over to help him. She gently coaxed Yamada into his bed.“Where...where am I?” Yamada asked, with tears blurring his vision.“The hospice, Grand Mage Urkse brought you here. Do not fret, you will be blessed, when the Blessed is free.”Yamada forced himself up, the pain radiated out and shot through his body like fire. The nurse tried to push him back down to no avail. He clutched his gut, and shook his head, using the pain to fuel himself.“Where is Grand Knight Gwyneth?” he shakily on his feet. “You need to lay down and-““WHERE!?” He yelled, his voice echoing through the stone walls. The nurse went silent leaning away from him. She took a few seconds to compose herself.“M
Yamada was escorted back to the Blessed, with his bloodied hand wrapped in his Kāṣāya, following behind Gwyneth. The sun had fallen behind the Citadel’s walls, and the moon had taken its place. Mages in crimson cloaks, created the magic circle of fire; fiery lines that criss-crossed, forming the silhouette of a, crimson rose. They walked through the streets lighting the lanterns, illuminating the citadel. He returned to the Blessed, with the same nurse greeting him.“Blessed one, could you please heal this boy?” Gwyneth asked. She gave Yamada an anxious look, before speaking. “He refused treatment before, and stormed off, not before yelling at me.”Yamada looked away with a guilty expression. Gwyneth grabbed him by the nape of his neck. He shrivelled in, feeling her cold metal fingers dig into his neck like hawk talons. She brought his face close to hers, lifting him into the air, like a misbehaving cat.“Did you yell at a Blessed?” She growled, staring through his soul.“Ma...maybe
Yamada lay on his straw bed, struggling to fall asleep on its stiff shape. He wished for a hammock, but he felt it stupid to ask for what, others would consider a downgrade. The Citadel was too noisy for him, with drunken citizens yelling angrily in the streets, or worse singing unfamiliar songs. He missed the crashing waves of the Maelstrom, or the gentle ripples of the Oeo, that lulled him to sleep. Yamada left the room frustrated desperate for fresh air. He walked outside, gazing at the kingdom, bathed in the pale moon light. The lanterns had faded, and the cool air was refreshing. He took a few steps forward, accidently kicking the armour Gwyneth had left behind. Yamada clutched his mouth shut, letting out a muffled whimper, suppressing the urge to scream. He sat down clutching his foot, and felt around the cold matte black armour. He had thought that Gwyneth brought it inside for safe keeping. Why would anyone leave such precious armour outside in the streets? Surely the Cita
Yamada walked beside Gwyneth, his Kāṣāya dripping with sweat, and clung to his body. They had walked half way to the second ring.“Is it safe to just leave the armour up there?” He asked looking back to the third ring.“You’re welcome to go back and bring it down.” Gwyneth said.“It’s fine where it is.” Yamada said catching up to her. She escorted Yamada to her quarters, with the handmaidens whispering and leering at Yamada as he walked in.“Clean him and fetch him some new clothes.” She ordered. The handmaidens were all young women, and eagerly got to work, gathering soaps and powders. Yamada stood in the corner of the bathroom, as the handmaidens filled the large bronze bath tub, with buckets of cold water. One of the handmaidens, held her hand in front of the bath tub, creating the gate for fire magic. The small silhouette of a fiery crimson rose, hovered over the bath tub, heating the water. The room filled with steam and the handmaidens smiled gesturing for Yamada to get in.He s
Gwyneth woke up at the break of dawn, feeling another blanket on her body. She perched up onto her hands, looking down at the empty mattress. She wrapped herself in the blankets, walking outside her quarters, to see one of the handmaidens stitching his frayed Kāṣāya.“Where is he?” She asked. The handmaiden bowed. “He left an hour ago, and tried to change his clothes, before he left, but....” She said holding up his frayed Kāṣāya.“His clothing was more fragile than we thought.” She said with an awkward smile.“So what did he do?” Gwyneth asked. “He left in a huff, redder than a rose, when he found out he was wearing your clothes.” The handmaiden said with a gleeful smile.Gwyneth dressed herself with alacrity, striding out of the Keep, walking down towards the Third Ring. Vexgar approached her with a furious scowl, each step he took had a solid thud.“Butcher!” He barked.“I believe you're meant to call me Grand Knight Gwyneth, or would you like for my squire to embarrass you again?”
“Psst.” Jacara whispered, poking Yamada. His eyes shot open, bloodshot and annoyed. “You awake?”Yamada ignored it, and let out a low mumble. Jacara flicked Yamada’s ear, to no reaction.“I know you’re not sleeping.” He whispered.Yamada forced his eyes closed.“Huh, guess you are asleep. Well I’ve been meaning to get this off my chest. Before you came to the Citadel, me and Gwyneth made love.”Yamada let out a low growl.“She told me that, I was the best she ever had. And that no man could satisfy her ever again.”Yamada’s eyes shot open, filled with rage.“I’m glad you came, I was getting tired of filling that cave.”“Jacara, I know you’re lying. So shut up.” He snapped, without turning around. He smirked. “Oh you’re awake, and you’re right, I am lying. She was a babbling mess after I was done with her.”Yamada rolled over glaring at him, summoning his gauntlet.“Will you shut up? Or do you want to try, and see how hard I can slap with this on?”Jacara scoffed, before feeling Yamada
The last three days marching towards the Silver City, had been trouble free. The three of them had gotten to learn about each other, sitting around the camp fire. They had shared their favourite fruits. Jacara was peaches, however Ul’lanna suspected there was innuendo or lewd reason, to why he chose that fruit.Yamada was mangoes, and hers was oranges. Ul’lanna and Jacara had learn to their horror, that Yamada’s favourite meal. Was actually a dish of raw fish, covered in herbs, chillies and a salty sauce. He failed to convince them of how delicious it was, and only gave them an aversion to seafood. She had thought that, Jacara would have made the trip uncomfortable.Especially after what happened in the prison. However he had spent most of his attention, on learning Yamada’s love making technique.Incessantly nagging at him to spill the secret, with Yamada doing his best to ignore him. With them starting to set up camp for the night. She felt that even if trouble were to come their wa
The sun made love with Encara’s face, giving him a bright rude awakening. He shot up groaning, clutching his head. It throbbed and had a dying thirst. He panned around the room, wincing before a jug of water was thrust into his face. Encara greedily drank the water, his skin rejuvenating. He stopped and frowned, before looking around at the room askance. He wasn’t inside his room, and he wasn’t on his bed. Who had given him the water? Encara panned up to see Gwyneth beside him.“Where am I?” he asked, noticing the draft on his naked body. “And why am I-““Soel and Miranda’s orders.” She said glaring towards the closed door.Gwyneth wore her silk night gown, and slumped onto her bed, grabbing an apple. Bruises and welts covered her body, where the armour had saved her.“Let me heal-ah!”Gwyneth cut him off, by pegging the apple against his head.“You’re under orders to rest. That means no healing, cursing, warping, or opening any of the gates.” She snapped.Encara rubbed the flecks of
Three days had passed since the first assault. At the crack of dawn, Soel and Gwyneth had been given a task by General Aerith. A mob of angry farmers encircled Soel. They cussed their fears at her. She slumped in her chair. Their words fell on deaf ears. Gwyneth stood in the corner of the room. She was stationed here, by Aerith to make sure, Soel did not lash out.Soel’s uninterested, miserable expression filled with contempt, made it impossible for Gwyneth to not smile. Soel shot her a glance, one filled with anger and malice. It only made Gwyneth struggle to not burst out laughing. She scrunched her face. One burly farmer, snapped his fingers at Soel.He was rewarded with her glower, and Gwyneth wincing, sucking air audibly through her teeth. This was one of the three things, that no one should ever do to Soel.Gwyneth had witnessed the aftermath of each one, over twenty years ago.“Are you even listening to us!?” The man bellowed. His sun kissed skin, and rugged hands, were the s
Yamada shot awake with a gasp. A familiar soreness and searing pain radiated through his body. Bruised muscles, and creaking bones. He sat up with his torso bandaged. He scanned his surroundings. A wooden hut, designed for a small family of three or four. The bed made for two people, or one obese person. Made of cheap quality and poor craftsman ship. The aroma of spices and meats brewing, caught his attention. However seeing Harbinger, resting in the corner, replaced his exhaustion with anxiety. Yamada summoned his armour and quietly crept over to Harbinger. He pushed the door open slowly, creeping outside. Yamada froze seeing Jacara and Ul’lanna tied back to back, sitting on the ground of the living room. Both of them were unconscious and gagged. He quickly rushed to them trying to remove their gags and untie them.“Ah, ah, ah. I wouldn’t do that.” Skora said from behind.Yamada spun around seeing Skora. She wore a simple cotton blouse and leather pants. Without the cuirass, her clea
Morning came and the citizens of the Citadel went to work with a sense of looming dread. When would the next attack happen? Could their army defend them? Was it worth staying?Gwyneth woke up, feeling Encara asleep by her bedside. He had pushed himself past his limits. His skin completely pruned, and his hair jet black. She rolled out of bed, wincing at the sharp pain still lingering in her gut. He had sealed the internal injuries to a stable state, but not the muscles.Gwyneth grunted lifting Encara into her bed, and getting dressed. She left him in her room, and walked out to see Miranda in the kitchen. Her face scowling at Gwyneth. “You broke your oath.” She growled, clenching her fist.Gwyneth was silent, and took a seat beside her.“You swore that, you would never enter your Draken state.”“Would you rather have died out there?” “Yes!” Miranda snapped.Gwyneth reeled back in her chair.“All the torment from the others, the guilt and nightmares you have experienced in the last twe
The terrified and enraged denizens of the Citadel, cursed and booed at the Keep. Chanting their frustrations. The newly knighted and terrified mages joined the crowd, with the old guard attempting to keep the peace. The council room was filled with a quiet dread. Cin slumped over the table, with Aerith massaging his head. Entering one’s Draken state gave tremendous power, and several advantages depending on your hierarchy. However with each transformation, you would pay with your sanity. Eventually succumbing to primal instincts.Gwyneth wore a silk dress, rather than her armour, clutching her stomach. Her injuries weren’t fully healed, and the transformation had taken its toll.Soel and the Grand Knights shared several jugs of mead and wine. The discovery of Urkse’s betray was not what concerned them the most. Nor was Encara’s withered and black haired body, nodding off in his chair.Axilas broke the silence, as Vexgar crushed a handful of walnuts in his hand. “What is our next plan?
Ul’lanna followed behind, Yamada and Jacara. The air was thick with anger and irritation. They had heard the roars in the distance, but pressed forward. Both were biding a silent rage.“Ul’lanna, how long is the trip to the Silver City?” Yamada asked.“Roughly five months, the safest route is the longest.”Jacara was silent in understanding. They needed to stay hidden.“And the shortest and fastest route?” Yamada asked.“If we cut across Pest Peak, it will take us only two months to arrive.” She said reluctantly. “But that path is filled with Drakens, and isn’t worth the risk.”Jacara and Yamada shared a mutual glance.“Hey, your father and Gwyneth, wanted you both to be safe. So stick to the plan.” She ordered. The two of them shrugged, and kept their heads down marching through the forest. Ul’lanna let out a sigh of relief.Vexgar and Axilas’s division had killed over a hundred Wyrms, and ran themselves ragged. They had still done their job and created space between the Drakens and
Thanatos and the Elven army followed Urkse’s orders without delay. They marched in the dead of night; cold, exhausted and starving.Thanatos’s right arm had been ripped off, after Urkse had heard about the death of Rai. He had a lethargic walk, and his bloodied stump was packed tight with gauze and cloth.Urkse sat atop a makeshift palanquin, with the weary warriors, struggling to keep him stable. Urkse sucked on his teeth and snarled.“Tell me again. Why the fuck, did you spare the scouts you found? But decided to kill the Grand Mage I was planning to pin the blame on?” He asked glaring at Thanatos.“I-“ “DON’T FUCKING SPEAK!” Urkse snapped, slamming his fist down.Everyone jumped, their nerves shot.“It was a damn rhetorical question. I know the answer. You’re all fucking stupid. Now instead of capturing the Citadel, you’ll have to conquer it.”He slumped back, letting out a long exasperated sigh, rubbing his tired face. The ink from his flask seeped out, revealing a transcript of Y
