Diana kept silent. Jane asked her in a panic, “Ana, answer him. Charlie comes from a good family and is a nice man. Didn’t we have an agreement before we left the house?”

At this moment, Diana walked up to Warwick, tears welling in her eyes. She bowed and said, “Mr. Owens, I apologize for our previous wrongdoings.” Then, she turned toward Charles and said, “Charles, I’m not planning on getting married for the time being. We’re still young and have lots of time ahead of us.”

Diana did not want to marry Charles at all; she hoped to stall as long as she could.

“Well, son?” Warwick looked at Charles.

“Dad, I think Ana has a point. We’re still young; we can get engaged first.”

Diana’s heart dropped. She looked at Charles in dismay.

“Alright! Engagement sounds good. We’ll soon be in-laws,” Jane agreed cheerfully.

Warwick walked up to Diana and patted her shoulder, smiling. “Ana, you’re an understanding girl. What do you think? You and Charles can get engaged for now.”
