Chapter 4 Desolate Planet

As Manasi prepared to teleport to another world, he remembered his guard friend, Jorge, the one he was trying to save in the building.

"Spirit System, please check a person named Jorge at a place not far from where we merged."

"Contractor, you mean the guy who was lying by the side of the street in a blue suit with his legs broken?" Spirit System

"Yes, how did you know?" It mystified Manasi how precise the Spirit System is in recognizing a person.

"Contractor, when I came near you, he was watching in your direction until his last breath.' Spirit System

Manasi could only close his eyes and slowly accept Jorge's death.

"I met Jorge two years ago when I moved out of the church and stayed in the apartment. Jorge, who is in his thirties, has a wife. And their little kid is three years old this year."

"At that time, Jorge and I became brothers, because Jorge's wife often came to visit the apartment building and gave her husband a homemade lunch box with their young child following her around."

"Sometimes Jorge's wife gives me launch boxes." Manasi said as if telling a story.

Memories of his friend Jorge came to his mind and he remembered them one by one.

"All flesh is like grass, and all the glory of man is like the flower of the grass. The grass withers and its flowers fall." He closed his eyes.

"Sorry Jorge at the end, I couldn't save you." He said as he smiled with sadness.

'Sigh'

"Do not worry about your children and your wife, I will meet them in the future and help them. It is my promise to you as my friend."

"Spirit System tell me what kind of planet we are heading to?"

'Contractor, first, I will give you two options. Among the inhabited and desolate planets, the inhabited planet is much more difficult to enter than a desolate planet.'

'The inhabited planet you can enter is the middle-rank planet. While the desolate planet, on the other hand, has a much higher rank, a high-ranked planet.' Spirit System

'So what would be your choice, Contractor?' Spirit System.

Manasi did not agree immediately but thought for a moment.

"What are the advantages and disadvantages between the desolate planet and the inhabited planet?"

Manasi said he considers the pros and the cons.

'Contractor, compared to the desolate planet, the inhabited plane still has a lot to do. Inhabited planets can communicate and trade.'

'While desolate planets are not suitable for habitability, they have one advantage as the legacy of their past inhabitants.

'But keep in mind that the desolate planet you are heading to is a high-rank planet. It had greater danger, but its benefits are bountiful.' Spirit System

"Spirit System, I decided to enter the desolate upper planet!" He said with resolve.

'Of course, contractor.' Spirit system

Manasi knew that he had to take his chances on a planet of higher rank.

The Earth is in trouble and he needs to get stronger.

He must make a bet, even if the risk is much higher.

Manasis' eyes become sharp. "Spirit System, [Teleport] upper planet, and using [Guide] for a favorable planet"

'Yes! Contractor.' Spirit System

A space vortex suddenly appeared on Manasi's legs and engulfed him.

When he first appears in space, he notices a nebula-like cloud covering the Earth. Manasi felt the terrifying presence.

"I can see it, its deep darkness that covers the earth. Even from afar, I can tell it is death itself." Manasi said slowly,

He passed by the other planets and could see the Earth in its entirety as he traveled.

The Earth's view becomes smaller and smaller as he travels further and further away from his home planet.

"I always thought, how beautiful the world was, and if I could see it much nearer, it could be considered to have fulfilled one of my dreams."

"That planet that I pass by is quite beautiful; it has a crystal-like appearance. Planets that are covered with different colors and textures." Manasi said longingly.

'I am now traveling toward a higher planet, but I have not even managed to get out of the East Country.' He thought sarcastically.

"Spirit System, can I ask something?"

'Yes, Contractor' Spirit System

"Spirit system, teleport, and travel are not the same thing, right?" Manasi said this while he felt spacious about the Spirit System.

'Yes, contractor, why do you ask?' Spirit System

"Spirit System, what we are doing now is not teleporting, we are simply traveling." Manasi said calmly

'.....' Spirit system

"..." Manasi

'....Contractor, I'm saving energy, so we can only.' Spirit System

"Spirit system, perhaps you have a taunt skill right? and it automatically activates to taunt me, right?"

"..." Spirit System

Manasi slaps his forehead while massaging it. Finally, he could see the planet that they were heading to.

"Spirit System, so this is how huge a high planet is?" Manasi said with amazement.

"I never thought a high-ranking planet was a thousand times larger than Earth. This planet is light brown."

"Maybe this planet is a desert. There are four miniature suns and four moons? Wow. These four miniature suns and moons did not have the same color."

"Some were deeper in color, while the other miniature suns and moons were much lighter." Manasi said while he pondered over it all.

"Spirit System, please use [Observer] on this planet."

'Contractor I cannot as it requires direct contact to cast [Observer] on the planet.' Spirit System

'Contractor, this is the best higher planet the ability [Guild] can find and the most suitable planet to find energy.' Spirit System

He was about to arrive on the planet, but without any warning, he felt the space being twisted and Manasi disappeared from his location.

He reappears in a desert place on this desolate planet.

"Arg!"

He holds his stomach while groaning.

It was his first time traveling to another planet and he did great at holding his stomach, trying not to throw up.

But without anyone's warning, the Spirit system suddenly teleported him.

Causing his stomach to become upset as he vomited on the desert ground. He finishes vomiting. His face looks pale.

He then scans the surrounding scenery.

Gravel rocks, over humps and trenches, potholes and pebbles, far as the eye could see atop the brown earthen crust, a surface that looked as hard as a boulder and somehow even less attracting

The clouds have hidden in the dusty air, as it swings back and forth, reflecting the very breath of men, the unforgiving suns that burn the flesh of men. It is not a desirable place.

He thought for a moment that since this planet has four suns from the east, west, north, and south, it meant that this planet would never get dark.

Even if it got dark, it would be just a couple of minutes.

He took a deep breath to calm himself down.

"So I'm teleported to a desert place."

"The situation is disadvantageous for me, as the heat from the sun is twenty-four-seven, around the clock."

'Is there even a clock here? How can they calculate time here when they don't have a concept of day and night?'

He ignored such thoughts and focused on the urgent situation.

'If I don't find a cover... It will cause me to have heat stroke or even dehydration.' He thought while gritting his teeth.

"In this place, the earlier I find a water source, the better. Even though the breathable air is limited, if this continues, I won't last long in this kind of harsh environment."

"It is simply not meant for humans to be here...I'm starting to lose moisture.... This is bad." Manasi said as he gritted his teeth.

"Spirit System, why did you teleport me to a desert place?"

'Contractor, this whole world is a desert.' Spirit System

Manasi is still angry even though the system explains it to him, so he asks again. Just to confirm.

"Spirit System, why did you not teleport me to a favorable place?"

"Contractor, this is a favorable situation." Spirit System

"..." Manasi stares blankly ahead.

"I thought using the [Guide] ability would help me pick the best and most suitable planet for myself." Manasi

'Yes, Contractor, this is the most suitable planet for you. As for the other higher planets, they will kill you in a matter of seconds the moment you arrive.'

'This is the only desolate high-rank planet that is breathable.' Spirit System.

He could not reply to this answer.

He did not continue to argue with the system, as he would not be able to win and his situation is still critical.

'This place smells like sulfur.' Manasi thought.

"Spirit System, is there water in this desert?" He is thirsty and his throat is already dry.

'Contractor, according to my calculations, even without using the [Observer], the water is already dry. The chances of the contractor finding water are nil.' Spirit System

When Manasi heard what the system was saying.

He stood there unmoving and staring into space in silence as if his soul had just escaped from his body.

Manasi suddenly thought of something.

'The spirit system surely anticipated that the desolate planet had no water.'

As if the spirit system heard what he was thinking, the system suddenly started displaying words.

'Contractor, the system has already prepared potable water to last five days and rations.' Spirit System

Manasi gritted his teeth as he clenched his fist. The system is surely doing it on purpose.

He felt nervous about not knowing anything about this planet.

He needed to know the details about this planet or he would die without knowing why.

"Spirit System Is there any danger on this desolate planet?"

'Yes, Contractor.' Spirit System

"Spirit System, What are the dangers?"

'Dehydration, hunger, heatstroke, and, finally deadly monsters.' Spirit System

"Monsters? It's an uninhabited planet, right?" He was dumbfounded that there are still living creatures on this planet.

'Are you trying to pull my leg back, spirit system?' He thought bitterly

'Contractor, it is a non-living monster, a bio-creature of a past civilization, the technique of alchemy that created the homunculus.'

'It doesn't need food to eat, and they're like the undead, with excellent fighting instinct and unimaginable power.' Spirit System

'Gulp!'

"Undead monsters? I'll be instantly killed!" He said nervously.

'Yes you are, contractor, the homunculus has an average strength of ten advanced tanks from your home planet.' Spirit System

"...." Manasi blankly stares ahead.

These monsters can practically destroy a city on their own!
