Once it was out he let the child's limp body fall the the ground. A few seconds passed and an orb began to form over the small corpse. It was a small and bright shining with a yellow color that was pleasant to the eye."And this is it." The old man said as he reached for the orb. "An SSS grade Soul. Getting one of these usually re
Back in the day I used to be a troublemaker. I would always get into fights and cause all sorts of problems to everyone, but everyone just dismissed it as me being an energetic kid.I was a stark contrast with my older brother. Peter was the quiet and well behaved child. He was good at his studies and had a bright future ahead of him. I always admired Peter, I wanted to be just like him. However I doubted it will ever happen as our personalities were just too different.Peter was four years older than me. That meant we never went to school together. Once he got to high school he started going less often and at some point he stopped going at all. I knew he had some problems but at the time I was just a kid. I didn't know how to approach the subject nor did I know how to pick up on other people's emotions so I just let it be. One day while I was at school a number of older kids approached me. They were asking were my brother was and why he didn't come to school. I so stupidly told the
Watching Lily get stabbed by the old man's knife, something broke inside Drake. It the same time the remaining time to his permanent death ran out and his entire world went dark.He saw the system notification flash one after the other, however he was unable to understand what they said.Even though his mind was turned off his rage and hatred continued to grow. The church of Eturnal Night. The old man in black. The shadow armor. Everyone in that city. Everyone in this cursed world. He will kill them. He will kill all of them and leave no one behind. He will destroy everything. Hell flatten everything to the ground. As the rage filled thoughts moved his body, what everyone else say was a monster shrouded in black. It wasn't the shadow aura they were used to. Even Kujo who had refined the skill to its strongest form could tell what he was seeing was nothing like that. The black flame danced and moved never retaining one shape. The silhouette they created was vaguely humanoid but resem
"What's going on here…?" Roland wondered aloud as he watched from afar. During the ensuing chaos Charon had found an opening to slip away. Seeing the beast in the sky spewing pure white flames the tall guy realized that a disaster had befallen that place. He went to look for Drake thinking they needed to get out of there and fast, but when he followed the boy's scent and arrived at the place he was at last he felt the blood drain from his face as he understood what was going on.There on the ground was the cold corpse of the Beastkin child, slowly disintegrating into small particles of light indicating that her Soul has been forcefully ripped out.Beside her were a pair of legs and a crushed skull. A small distance away was Drake's black sword dipped in a large pool of blood. It was a gruesome scene and Roland realized what had happened in that place. He turned in the direction of the commotion, a dome of blinding light enveloped a large area and forced his eyes shut.He had comple
Having finally ridden himself from Roland, Charon ran around trying to reunite with Kujo. He was doing his best to preserve his skills and magic so even though he should be been able to win that encounter he chose not to and ran away.As he made his way through the back alleys he heard the horrifying roar. He climbed atop one of the buildings to check what it was about and following the series of explosions he noticed Kujo getting overwhelmed by the monster covered in black flames.Charon couldn't believe. Kujo was getting beaten. The Challenger chosen by the church and the one who had already recieved his second high grade Soul, that Kujo, is being pushed back and is unable to do anything against his opponent.Charon felt despair. He kept his distance and watched the fight knowing very well that he couldn't do much. One question in his mind was what was that thing covered in black flames. It was difficult from Kujo's Dark Aura so it couldn't be the same skill. The truth was Charon h
Higher grade Soul are completely different from normal Boust Souls. Their composition is more complex and they require an incredible amount of Essence to level up and a lot more to evolve. The stat boost they get with each level is incomparable to lower grade Souls and once they're cultivated to a certain level they gain abilities beyond anything usable by humans. Obviously that growth couldn't be achieved by anyone. Even if one has a high grade Soul they'd one day reach a point were they can no longer cultivate it by feeding on lower grade Souls. That meant they'd have to hunt for high tier beasts and instead of assimilating their Souls they would allow them to be absorbed by their own soul.Charon didn't have a System. His Soul once belonged to a beast called the Volcanic Dragon, one of two SSS tier beasts that ruled over the volcanoes on an island called Burnin. The church had sent its army to hunt the dragons in preparation for the upcoming selection. Many had died and only one
Opening his eyes, Drake was met with the sight of an unfamiliar ceiling. It wasn't that of room built by human hand but rather the rough stone of a naturally formed cave. From how the surface beneath him felt it was clear he wasn't sleeping on a bed. He tried to recall what had led him to that place, that was when he remembered his fight against the shadow armor and what happened right afterward."Lily!"He shot up to his feet the moment the memory came back, however he had no strength in his limbs and end up tumbling to the ground. Struggling to lift himself he felt his tears flowing. He had done it. He had done it again. He tried to help someone, to protect them with his strength. However his efforts were in vein and ended up leading to just more suffering and death. The child was stabbed right in front of him and he couldn't do anything. He then remembered the state he was in and looked at his lower half.He had ran out of skills and was unable to move or evade. The shadow armor a
"I see you're finally awake." Roland said as he emerged from the dark."Ah…" Drake was unable to speak. He had known Roland was there. He saw the green dot on the map waiting a small distance away. The tall guy was trying to be considerate, leaving Drake to let it all out before coming in.Drake had cried for hours. It was the only thing he could do. His body was too weak to do anything, otherwise he would've gone in another rampage.Once the tears dried out he sat there staring at the bonfire with empty eyes. He was contemplating suicide. He felt there was nothing left for him in this world. Roland sat down beside him. He placed a small pot on the fire, filled with water, dried meat and some vegetables. He added in some herbs as a seasoning then some salt before letting it boil. The two silently stared at the pot for a while. Soon the sound of bubbling stew was heard and the cave they were hiding in was filled with a pleasant scent. "You must be really hungry." Said roland as he f
